You could use a service called Mcleaks to play, which just requires the launcher and no account. If you had a real account Mcleaks would attempt to steal it (it's their "business model" per se) but otherwise it'll work.

Oh man, looking through my old mod lists, I'm pretty bummed the 2hu mod was never updated from 1.7.x.

I tried playing on a touhou minecraft server over five years ago. I was killed by someone out of the blue within an hour. I thought that maybe it was the result of accidentally committing some kind of obscure, unspoken, server taboo so I hurriedly logged off and never went back.

Okay, I rented a server, I will have it run the vanilla 1.8.9 version!
Since I have no experience with this, figuring out the menus and so on will take a while, if you have suggestions please let me know. The server should be on the east coast of the United States of America.

Is not knowing how to make pixel art or nice buildings gonna be a problem?

I do not know about any good mods, and the one time I tried installing some it was a real hassle. If you have a suggestion for mods that work on 1.8.9 I would look at it though and if it seems cool I'll try to install it if everyone is alright with it.

the best way to do it on a server is to get a modpack, theres minecraft launchers that do most of it automatically.

I am waiting for someone to start a /jp/ Minetest server. One reason is that Minetest works a lot better on shitty computers. I think it also feels more like old Minecraft than current Minecraft does, and it is way more moddable.
