The 23rd also marks the server's 3 month anniversary. It's been up every week since then, excluding one, meaning it's been "officially" hosted about 12 times now since it sometimes has two runs in a single week. Time sure flies, doesn't it? The first time this server was hosted there was nothing to do except two assault maps, one of which was broken and there were also no teleporters, no vehicle spawners and only a couple of cars at the airport. If you've played on every official test and stayed until the end, you'll have played about 100 hours by now.

My sincere thanks to all the anons who have stuck around despite the bugs and weird antics, it brings this NEET great joy to see you guys having a good time.

Since I've accomplished most of what I wanted to this week, here's the list of current changes:
-New group and turf system which is the focus of this test. I used some database wizardry to make and assign our already-existing groups in it. The people I see online most often/remember have already been added to them. You guys will have to add the rest yourselves, though.
-the price of nearly every single buyable weapon has been reduced. In addition, all of them except grenades give you 999 ammo so you only need to buy it once
-5 "extra" character skins have been hidden across the map. I think I hid them pretty well, so hats off if anybody manages to find them all!
-some stability changes

after the thread 404'd some anons managed to find the server I had up to test
we found out that the original touhou doom wad doesnt work that well (weapons only spawn in like second and third maps so late joiners dont get them, getting stuck respawning inside geometry) but later today I can put up a server for the remake of it and see if that one works well in multiplayer

1. Download Zandronum, it's the source port we'll use. A source port is kind of a port of the doom engine to modern machines, that also modernize the engine itself. The important part is it makes multiplayer very easy. Please get the full installer as it comes with Doomseeker, a server browser that is highly recommended we use.

2. Download the WADs (Wheres All the Data). doom2.wad contains all the base data that almost every mod is built off of and TouhouDoom_v1.11.pk3 is the mod itself

3. Install Zandronum, then drop both doom2.wad and TouhouDoom_v1.11.pk3 wherever you installed it to. Make sure they're in the same folder as zandronum.exe.
4. Start zandronum.exe by itself so you can begin the first time set up. Make sure doom2.wad is selected as the base wad. I'm not sure if hardware mode is required (it is for some mods) but make sure it's selected just in case. Make sure to customize all the settings, such as controls, mouse options, player setup (like your name), display options, and video mode (resolution).
5. Navigate to the Doomseeker folder and run doomseeker.exe or the shortcut. A server browser should open. I don't remember if you have to configure this but I'll go through it just in case. Go to Options>Configure and under Games>Zandronum, make sure the path to executable is pointed at your zandronum.exe. Ensure file paths is pointed at the same folder as the one zandronum.exe is in. You may want to make an additional folder called WADs somewhere close. Lastly, you don't have to but it's recommended if you ever plan on ever downloading WADs from servers, but set the download location to the WADs folder you made, under Wadseeker>General, otherwise the default is appdata. I know this part seems like a lot but once you configure it you never have to touch it again.

Is either Admin or other dev anons using version control like git, svn or hg for the mod source? I highly recommend using even a local one, to prevent the most dreaded of events: Files deleted, overwritten and otherwise lost due to some freak accident, leading to lots of wasted time and ultimately demoralization.

Look up Kam's GTA scripts. Just keep in mind that the exporter is busted and you'll have to fuck with it a lot. For example it WILL mess up your model's smoothing groups, and it WILL mess up your UV maps if you're not careful.
For .txd you need a different program. I recommend TXD Workshop, but you really can't go wrong here.

Still tossing around the idea of whether to add it or not, I mentioned it way back but the idea so far has been to keep it as close to vanilla 2hu SA as possible, like you see in the artwork, but basically with multiplayer and gamemodes which is why I've avoided stuff like HUD/sound/etc changes.

Hijack away, there's not really anything to discuss without a server test aside from mapanon's updates or my own.

Your primary roadblock would be rigging all the models, if all the characters use unique models like you said then that's going to be a lot of work if there's a bunch of them. I've never played Bully before, but if I were going to swap all the models I'd do it based on whatever pairings between characters would produce the most amusing interactions. Alternatively if there's a "leader" character in a group, you could just replace them with a character and have their lackeys be mob characters. Yuugi could be the boss of kedama, Yuuka sinsacks, Nitori generic kappa mobs, and so on.

Since people have converted GTA models already, there's probably some program out there I could use. While I think Kappa mobs as nerds to fill in for a faction that'll probably have people like Nitori, Chiyuri and Yumemi in it and not really much else. Stuff like Kedama wouldn't work since you'd need to see the enemy animations for fighting combat, also in general I think using mobs should probably be the last resort.

It could be more fun seeing say, Cirno start a fight with say, Tenshi being a preppie then the fight gets broken up by a prefect Reimu(modded so she beats the shit out of them instead of grabbing and arresting them) rather than that happening to some random kedama or bake

It seems like the Japanese gods have decided to reward us taking it easy this week. I just noticed a blitz of uploads from one of the Jap blgogers. The girls of Gensokyo decided to get a facelift in San Andreas! Some new girls also decided to join in on the fun.

We tried using generated keys to see if you could connect to Battle.net, but didn't work. A error message appears if you try to connect.
Then we tried using Lancraft to see if the ones who had a pirate version could join the games, but it seems that the latest updates broke it.
Also, the guy who hosts the games said it was fine since there's a low player limit for the maps.

If that's a challenge, I'll take you up on it next week. It's also actually fairly useless once your opponent knows the gimmick, if you can't force them to move then it's just a potential suicide run due to how close you need to be+the activation time. She's still a lot of fun to play with though.

Mastering last hits seems to be really important, I realized it in our 1v2. That's how I had such a big advantage over you guys in the early game, the money and experience bonus are real game changers.

Getting 8 kills on us before we wised up is also a good contributing factor. You're right, though, characters like Shou are explicitly designed at capitalizing on last hits. I've always suspected the AI is excellent at it and why they always outlevel us.

I've been brainstorming a few ideas but I wanted to ask before I implemented them. The first is removing all "powerful" weapons like RPG's, shanghai's maybe even miniguns and so on, from the overworld map and instead making them very expensive weapons shop items which would actually give a bit of a benefit to more wealthy gangs as well as providing another funnel for funds. The other idea was making gang members unable to hurt each other, aside from the obvious implications of this it would also allow Reimu bounties to be reenabled (the reason they were disabled in the first place was because a gang member could just sacrifice themselves to their own gang to add into their own bank). If the bounty was substantial, it could give the gang that scores the kill a substantial weapons advantage, also giving an incentive for gang members to protect their own members if one of them gets bountied.

This has really been a blessed week, I can hardly believe how much I've gotten done. I'm really looking forward to this weekend. In any case, sadpanda is also back if any /jp/sies haven't noticed! The next server run will be tomorrow, Saturday, at around 5 or 6 PM EST.

-Gang colors and blips are now fully working! Nametags are no longer required!
-Graffiti bug is PERMANENTLY fixed
-The bug with personal vehicles needing to be destroyed in the menu has been fixed
-Clownpi decided to steal all of the overworld RPG's and HS RPG's and add them to her shop. They're expensive, so use those gang funds!
-Flan decided to relinquish her career as a side-prostitute back to Sanae
-Login menu updated. Now all we need is an OC anon to draw us a wallpaper.

Quite a few long-standing bugs have finally been fixed this week, I've been mulling over solutions to them during my time off. Next week I'll focus on new models and some optimization to scripts.

We'll also be trying out a new gamemode today! In this mode, every player gets a personal squad of NPC fairies - blue fairy carries an AK, pink fairy a shotgun, and the SWAT fairy carries an M4. By holding down "B" you can open up a command menu for your fairies, you use mouse scroll to navigate and middle mouse to make a selection. They can be ordered to move to a specific location, attack specific players and more. The objective is to capture locations, when the gamemode starts all locations are locked - except the middle ground, the team that takes the middle ground will be able to push closer into the enemy teams base, until they finally win. You can recapture territories, so think of it like a territory tug-of-war. Your fairy squad can also capture and defend territories, and the more characters in a territory the faster it captures. Proper use of your fairies can make all the difference in this mode, they can be a little stupid sometimes but they try their best!

The other thing I wanted to clear up was some stuff about the new turf system, because there was some confusion during the last run as to how it works. The payout of each turf is less, individually, than it was before, this is offset by periodic payouts to the entire gang based on how many turfs you own in addition to earning money for every kill you make against enemy gangs. There is also a bug(feature?) that if a gang member is defending their turf when you enter it, the timer will freeze. You'll need to kill them or make them leave the turf, then reenter it to get the capture timer to resume. Also, if you're on an elevated position the timer dissapears but you're still capturing it as long as it's flashing on the map, the timer will update to whatever it should be when you drop back on the ground.

Also, you now no longer lose money from dying on a turf, don't need to leave your car to start capturing, and don't get armor for kills to balance things out.

Being a private gang war server with a scheduled start point, I've got an idea that could work:
Killstreak vehicle unlocks. Prompted to unlock, not automatic. it could involve both normal vehicles and lethal/crazy vehicles, no respawns after death. And just a case of spawning them, so anyone could steal and take. I was just thinking that could throw more variation into the mix in terms of the vehicles ppl use and the moments they have with other players.

The 1.29 and 1.30 updates are what broke the custom maps and have been out for almost exactly a year now. Seems like it will never get fixed at this rate.
It's a shame that hacked maps are indirectly what caused this. Modders intentionally broke maps from loading in the world editor to prevent people from creating their own cheated maps, now no one can go in and fix them for the new update. Not that I can blame them, who would guess that the game would be revived nearly 10 years later?
