Finished playing Eustia. I usually avoid eroge having '主人公ダメ’ tag with good number of votes on egs, but I don't remember exactly why(probably mistaken with something else) I picked this up. Anyways, the art and production were great, and the music was ok, not the best but good. Overall I didn't like the VN. I liked the prologue and first(Fione) but the hetare and urusai(esp pushing his thick head views in 2nd and 3rd) behavior of the protag from 2nd scenario was a bit painful. More of a personal preference. About the last scenario, though some reasons were given, I didn't find the it really fitting. Seemed more that the writer wanted to go through with an ending. Especially stuff like submitting to Lucius without taking much info, and even after the return to rougoku and the sex taking so long, as Tia says. I really depressed thinking Tia's gonna be crucified for 500 yrs and kept waiting for an escapade. How he put his ear to his brother in front of the suffering Tia at the end and allowed him to through a knife was really enraging In the end I ended up disliking the protag to almost the level of Takayuki contrasting with a cool start [

Also, there quite a bit loose points throughout the vn. Though I can ignore that, and the scope and setting is great. Kind of reminds me of G-Senjou, I didn't like that much too. That had Maou and Guzou, and I didn't find any character as much likeable in Eustia. Another thing that really bothered me is the day being JUST in time, it happened so many times, including near the end

In the end I feel it would be good for people who like the plot, excitement, pacing and setting, and don't mind some things loose and protagonist failing around. Don't think its near a kamige though, and personally didn't like it that much

Oh I realize that, but I frankly don't care that much about actually talking to Japanese people. When I want to talk to people, I'll do it in my native German, or sometimes in English.

I like Japanese vidya and anime, and I'm sort of interested in Japanese history (mainly in the time from the start of the 明治 era to the end of WW2), so my vocabulary is shaped by otaku shit and historical documents. Who cares.

To me, Japanese is mainly what I immerse myself in when I want to get my mind off of work, relationship troubles, western politics and everything else I might worry about.
English actually used to fulfill the role of an escapism language just fine for me, but then I made the mistake of looking up on Wikipedia who runs all the big media corporations in the US.
Hollywood movies and American TV shows just aren't enjoyable anymore when you keep noticing all the Jewish anti-White (and generally anti-Gentile) tropes everywhere.

So you installed the サポートファイル after applying the 修正パッチ (weird how there are none on that page) and were able to play the game without a disc mounted/inserted? Unless I'm misunderstanding and the サポートファイル supersedes the 修正パッチ somehow despite lacking even a readme. Looks like just an engine update though.
Interesting, based on the error messages it looks like it may be an official nodvd but they don't explicitly acknowledge it as such and still have other FAQs about the DVD being needed (maybe they just never removed these). At least according to "仮想DVDディスクドライブソフトをご使用されていませんか" they don't attempt to stop virtual disk software (nor support it) so I guess worst case scenario I can just play with the disk mounted.

Oh yeah, I'm sure. I binary diffed the nonpatched file for the first version and the change was the same as the one you mentioned.
It appears that the サポートファイル is just the same as the 修正パッチ. They took down the support page for the 初回版 but fortunately archive.org had the page and 4月28日バージョン. And even though the link was no longer there, the website still served a eustia_support.exe containing version 5月3日バージョン.

Weird that the new patch doesn't appear to support the 初回版. Not sure if it was intentional or a screw up on their part to (sort of) take down the 初回版 support page and patch.
I found that the error with the new patch is that BHVC failes to verify sysgrp.arc even though this file isn't included with any of the patches (and all other patches verify correctly). I guess that file must be different in the 通常版. Or in the Windows 10 app version. Just weird and nonsensical like most Japanese software I guess.

It's the same for me. Even tried real Japanese locale with no difference. If you ran BHVC.exe I'm sure you'd get the same error about sysgrp.arc.
The update appears to be from October of last year so I'm not sure how this slipped through. I guess nobody plays old games. Maybe they assumed everyone who bought the 初回版 already had the patches and figured they would only hurt pirates by cutting off support. Of course I'd need to check if the patch actually worked for the 初回版 for that to be true.

Yes. I usually use Locale Emulator and tried that first. It failed so I tried changing locale and rebooting. Neither worked. Of course running BHVC.exe makes it fairly clear it's not a locale issue.

>> No.21791893

>>21791892
Nah, you can ignore that. BHVC is a simple CRC check, they just didn't update their hash table for these updated files.

>> No.21791906

>>21791893
>BHVC is a simple CRC check, they just didn't update their hash table for these updated files.
No, it's a bit more complicated than that. As I posted earlier, the file that fails verification is NOT present in any of the updates. So presumably they included an updated hash table that was incorrect in some sense. Maybe they used to include a hash table that would mark two different versions of sysgrp.arc valid and now they only mark one version of it as valid.

If the game checks it's own hashes (at least for system files) when starting up, then this would potentially cause it to exit immediately. The fact that a hash failure of a totally non-updated file occurs in this patch but not in any previous patches is 100% linked to the reason the patch doesn't work. Maybe the patch is designed for a different edition of the game and the CRC of sysgrp.arc failing reflects that.
Absolutely not a coincidence you can ignore.

Interesting, thanks. I was considering if it could be something weird like UI language and never got around to testing. My hypothetical scenario was more like a subtle difference between Japanese and English Windows changing the parsing behavior of the scripting engine, breaking both the hash check and other parts of the game, though.

But seriously how the HELL do you install the wrong hash for a file that was unchanged in all 4 verisons of your software? I think it was reasonable to conclude that it must be related, but the incompetence of Japanese software developers defied my expectations as usual. WTF August. Maybe the dude who worked on the patch had disk corruption and the hash table was created by a script without user intervention?

Kamiyabai from Hulotte is interesting. They basically took the mindset of a typical otaku towards eroge and transplanted that into a story.
The protag gets 3 "candidates" he has a chance with told (=heroines in an eroge), and then transfers into their school to not stay a virgin for live. (=most important thing is ero) The entire thing is about the connection points (=affection points), while nothing really matters. Basically nobody looks at the girls as actual people in the story. It's all about affection points, getting closer to them and getting laid.

Unfortunately, it's a generic moege, so it only does a small amount of "wait, maybe this isn't how this should be" to the point there's no way to tell if they even wanted to put a message here or whoever thought out the setting didn't think this is bad. After all, moege tend to suck at romance, this one simply sucks at it a good amount more than other ones. The message is definitely not that romance is overrated, because they still tried to do that... kinda.

It was kinda funny seeing arguably the biggest eroge problem played out in a story like this. The incredibly mediocre cast and lackluster way of handling it means it's not worth playing, but alas. They'd probably not be alive today, if this had been recognized as major medium and consumer criticism. For that we have things like Saekano I guess. Works better outside the actual medium.

It's rare to basically tell your customers "hey, you are the problem of the industry". They just do it so half-assed without really daring to go too far, that probably nobody of those saw it, who were supposed to see it. Perhaps it wasn't even their intention, in which case they simply created garbage, as usual. I would've liked it, if it actually really dealt with the issues, but then it would've not been a moege, I guess.

Apparently the 2nd one was a complete rehash of the first when it came to character routes and wasn't included in the collection.

Some characters had better routes in tsuyokiss 1 and some had better ones in 3. All the main heroines have routes in both games, 3 just has an extra main heroine and 2 extra side heroines, certain routes are pretty similar to the previous games routes while some changed quite a bit.

A lot of things.

Just on the PR part, it's aggressively fun. On twitter, the seyuu and the company are very active and engaging, specially Rei's seyuu. They release original PR material quite often. No repetitive boring corporate wall. They also have a talkshow streaming going on.

A few of the seyuus come from the ASMR scene and their expertise shows, bringing in their own fans and people from that scene. What other eroge company scouted new artists like this?

On the work itself, I cannot give a recipe on how to 'make a successful Eroge' , or I would work in the industry. But there is a lot of care behind this one. From all the references that feel in the right place, to the crazy protagonist and heroines. In a sense, it's also a critique to eroge but done with responsibility. Netorare is the biggest trend in JAV? Let's make a whole route about that and embrace the Netorare. Pedos? Oh shit, the protagonist (and the reader...) is becoming a lolicon. Did you want good heroines? Well, here you have secondaries that are even better than the heroines. Or a little sister that actually behaves like a little sister that is fun to hang around, alleluia. Wait, isn't she getting too close? Or Nanase route with the strange mix of forced pretense that carries beyond the believable until you realize she's actually the most natural character. All that in a fun action story yet at some times brutally raw and tragic.

Is it the best shit ever? Noo, the story drags at times, though I think those daily life and dialogue scenes give the opportunity for character development and for the reader to understand the characters. The story itself isn't that great in retrospective, but the journey sure is.
It's also in a rare spot where you don't need to be an Eroge guru to understand all the shit that's going on, but having some knowledge of JP media will help you not miss stuff.

At least now you know how the industry works. Just play games a decade old or so. They still tend to actually install and run, and aren't really affected by the stupid stuff that is going on nowadays. Or go into the more niche stuff. At least there you can talk away the issues with budget restrictions.

I'm actually playing something right now, an old Clochette game, because a new one was released. I haven't touched the new one (and probably never will), but I'd bet it starts with shoving the tits into your face as soon as the girls get introduced, with a nice (shitty) zoom showcasing how much they can't into upscaling. Meanwhile the old game doesn't bother doing that. Heck, even the visible panties in one CG isn't zoomed into. The artist was also still good back then.
Even if the new game wouldn't do that, that kinda stuff is more and more the standard in the industry. Either it's some kinda gacha shit or everything is focused on the porn to the point, you start to question why the heck there's so much shitty text aside of it. Also bigger tits. That seems to be the only thing they can "one up" compared to previous games.

You can for example more easily and precisely see how long a game takes to be completed but even that doesn't really matter since how a game is "completed" isn't the same for everyone.

What I do is that when I'm searching for a specific game I go on erogamescape to read reviews and know how long it takes to complete it, and when I don't know what I'm searching for I go on vndb.

It's one thing to have mr. generic self-insert MC participate in a best couple contest, but if you have actual rivals with character and not completely horrendous designs, it's going to be pretty hard to actually sell that the MC is supposed to win. To be honest, I don't even see much of a difference there anyway. I'd call Symphonic Rain's songs insert songs as well, even though you perform them yourself. You'd call them that in anime as well, when characters would start to play music and sing along.

>You'd call them that in anime as well, when characters would start to play music and sing along.
No, you don't. That's just a song in the narrative. Insert song is separate than what the characters experience, it's for the viewer only. It's BGM, the characters don't actually hear it.

>> No.21837864

I think the point is that there is no practical difference between the two for most people. Just because you happen to be afflicted with some special form of autism where this distinction matters doesn't mean others (in this case, vndb) are at fault for not catering to your specific needs.
Also for what it's worth EGS also classifies SR's songs as insert songs.

>> No.21837902

>>21837864
That's the point, it's very low on the autism scale by vndbs standards. It's a thing even anime watchers know about. Yet there are a thousand tags and differentiations for completely random inane things that most people don't even know about.

>> No.21838037

>>21837129
Also this doesn't even have the majority of games with insert songs because some of them use the OP or ED for it and thus don't fulfill the requirement of "songs aside from the OP/ED". Another massive flaw making the tag practically useless for that feature.
