They look good. You might want to work a bit on your blending to do the eyes. And maybe a bit of clean up. Do take care of that green-stuff on reimu's shoulder, please. It would suck to have all that hard work ruined by it.

Here's something that'll work better:

1. Mold your initial figure out of cheap clay. KEEP IT WET. NEVER let it dry out.

2. Mix some fast-drying plaster. About 2 parts mix for 1 part water works. Make sure the water is warm. Be careful; when they say fast-drying, they MEAN fast-drying. It should be hard in minutes, so you don't have much time to work. When the plaster is a little lumpy, start piling it on the clay figure as thickly as you can, until the figure is completely covered. Wait for the plaster to dry.

3. Pressure-wash out the cheap clay with warm water. Enjoy your plaster mold.

You have to crack 'em to get the clay figure out, but it's worth it imo. That way you can get a fig that's one solid piece and won't fall apart. Just remember to hollow out a section in the middle of the figure before you bake it (generally, you only need to if the fig is >1 in. thick in certain areas).

>> No.2175465

>>2175420
Forgot to mention, you can also use wax instead of the cheap clay for step 1. It's INSANELY GODDAMN TEDIOUS (think of all the times that you've gotten dirty wet clay smothered all over your hands / arms and the mess that it made. now imagine it STICKY AS HELL), but you can melt the wax out of the mold with a blowdryer and reuse it later.

Also, since wax doesn't permanently dry out like clay, you don't need to watch the fig as closely to keep it from drying and you can achieve smoother, more detailed results from gently melting / carving the wax pre-molding.

That does sound like the materials would be easier to get closer to home. It also sounds like one would have a lot less collecting of materials to do, period. The guy in the cirno video used a scalpel, two files and some kind of triangular chisel (as well as an electric router of some sort, iirc), and four different kinds of putty. All before casting. It does seem like one might be able to get more detail on small figures when using the cirno video's method though? And what would provide structural stability while you were sculpting a wet clay figure (i.e. how would the legs not warp under the weight of the rest of the figure)?
