Gentlemen, it has been too long since I've seen a music thread here. I submit for your appraisal something I have never seen someone dislike, but which is oddly missing from...well, everywhere.

SUPER BUTTER DOG, of Communication Break Dance fame.

On the completely opposite end of the spectrum is Ruins. "Manic noise filled with gibberish lyrics which are largely ignored for Tatsuya Yoshida hitting his drums as though his life depended on it" describes this pretty well. I'd say the only other member of the band was the bassist, but he's gone through four already. Still, none of them are to be underestimated.

Lots of fun, overall, though I don't have much.

Honestly, I like them all. Pick one at random to get a feel for them, and if you like what you hear, download the rest. It's not like Mediafire has a download limit.

Generally though, if you're just sampling, stay away from the two-parters, as they're a fair bit bigger.

That said, the next band on the dump list is a little more noise, but a little less noisy. Midori is a jazz punk fusion band which, uh...fuses jazz and punk.

You know, I've never been good at this description thing. There's plenty of performances on Youtube.

Hey, now. I'm just going through the things I have more than one album of. Feel free to throw in your own music, different people have different tastes, and I want to cater to as many as possible.

To prove that I have more to share than shitty artsy /mu/ indie kid stuff, and to back up my previous statement, another of the bands I snatched up from a previous music thread and one of my favorites.

Furuido, of Akagi OP fame, with a best-of: SELECTION. Badass old man music/folk.

In the mean time, should I bother posting Polysics and Tokyo Jihen discographies? You decide! I don't know whether everyone already has those, so.

Anyways! Another one of my favorites, I've been trying to find more by these guys since I first heard them. Clingon has a sort of classic rock sound, blending happy tunes with piano and the lead vocalist's very unique voice. Absolutely worth a listen.

Please, do share a few! That's the only album that I have, and I absolutely love his style. Especially in live shows, the emotion in his songs just shines.

Speaking of emotion, here's Ikeda Ayako's Lunar Soup. Absolutely beautiful vocals that make you want to sing along even though you haven't got half the range, with relaxing music. You may recognize her from the Dennou Coil opening and ending themes - this is all closer to the ending.

Their other songs aren't all of that style, for sure, but I enjoyed almost everything they've put out. Definitely worth looking through at least one album.

I am astonished to find an Anon with such good taste in Japanese music. This is the stuff I always try to tell people about but they NEVER FUCKING LISTEN. Perhaps download links are the answer to getting people's attention.

To the folks asking which albums to start with:

If you get one Super Butter Dog album, get Funkasy. It's really fucking good and will convince you to get all their other stuff.

For Hiromi, Another Mind is as good a place as any to start. You'll know just a few seconds into the first track if she's for you.

For Ruins, get Pallaschtom.

For Midori...any of those albums are fine starting points. They're all of equal quality and all great.

For Ringo Shiina/Tokyo Jihen, get Ringo Shiina's albums first. TJ is a good band, but Ringo Shiina's solo stuff is in another league entirely.

I understand that this type of thread may not be to the tastes of everyone on /jp/, but I would ask that you express your opinions thoroughly and respectfully, rather than starting an argument that could potentially end in childish bickering and the overshadowing of actual content.

There are no ulterior motives like earning Rapidshare points or gaining fame. Please, either hide and ignore, sage with your opinion, or contribute - even if it's simply to offer your opinion on a band or a request.

>>2168353
Similarly, I must ask that should you feel that this thread needs to be moved to the front page, please say something more meaningful or worthwhile than "bump". Such behavior only serves to make it look less respectable to passers-by.

That said, my last contribution for the night is Mono's "Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined". As seems to be the trend with extremely long titles, this is an instrumental album, and a beautiful one - Too heavy to be ambient, but too relaxing to be rock. Rather than being an outcast from both parties, I would recommend it to fans of either.

I do not need to post links to each post for you to understand what I refer to when I say "The argument". I am disappointed that you were so easily had by an opposing force, and thought better of you all. Please, in the future, prove that you are the bigger person: Reply with respect and shoot down any claims with evidence or questions of the initial agitator, or simply ignore him and move on. We are here to cater to all those who would enjoy music; if someone thinks this to be a "Shitty thread", then what makes it shitty? How can we make it better?

>>2169298
>>2169403
Well that's odd. Which ones, in particular? I've been clicking random links, and they all work properly. If you can't seem to get them to work, I'd be happy to re-upload over the course of the day to Megaupload, Rapidshare, or your choice of file sharing network.

>>2168645
Thank you for your compliments. As one who has defaulted to "No, no, you wouldn't like this." due to the rampant weeaboo stereotypes, it's refreshing to be told that someone actually enjoys my favorite bands.

>>2168856
Duly noted! I look forward to hearing Chick's solo work, and thank you for clearing that up. Should I find a fair amount, I may just post it in this very thread.

>>2169199
And thank you very much for contributing music and bringing the thread back on its rails.

That said, I'll be spending today looking through a few albums that I'm unfamiliar with, and had the good fortune to stumble across while looking for album artwork. Failing that, I'll be looking for more of the music that people have requested.

Please don't let this happen again, /jp/.

This is a great thread. I wasn't aware of this type of japanese music and I have to say that I like it very much. To OP and the other awesome anons: your work here is highly appreciated.

BTW, has anyone an album of Takuro Yoshida with his song "Jun" in it? Can't find it anywhere.

Sure, why not?

This is the only album I have by these guys, but I wouldn't mind getting more. The english is awkward, but it's high-energy and catchy enough to make up for it, for me at least. If I had to describe them in one word, I'd go with "90's", and I have a soft spot for that kind of sound.

Posting a quick EP to give myself an excuse to speak.

Detwiije's "Would You Rather Be Followed By Forty Ducks For The Rest Of Your Life?" follows long-name tradition with subdued instrumental music. It's almost creepy, but still relaxing as it mixes rock and classical music. It reminds me of Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses, in a way. Good stuff! There is, however, some distortion near the end of track 1 and I don't know whether it's intentional. If anyone is more familiar with the song, please say one way or another so I can make sure it's good quality.

http://www.mediafire.com/?2yz2wmzoyyj

I've been noting down everyone's requests, and looking for what I can. So far I've scoured all my sources for information on Panicsmile and a Takuro Yoshida album with "Jun" on it, and here's what I've found:

Panicsmile is not easy to find. There's no wikipedia page on them, but the members have been in all sorts of other bands which I now want to check out as well! I did find an album list, but that's as far as I got. Perhaps one of the kinder anons with knowledge of the workings of Share can help out?

http://panicsmile.hp.infoseek.co.jp/discography.html

As for Jun, all sources I've found point to it being released for Cromartie High School, and out in no other form. I have an mp3 of the song, but searching for it in all the discography lists I found - kanji or otherwise - returned absolutely nothing. If you like his style of music and want more, I can only really direct you to >>2166349 for the time being. If you want more yet, just say the word and I'll see what I can do.

As for the others - I plan on finding some Mutyumu and Coaltar of the Deepers so I can see what I have that might fit your style. If I can't pin one by the end of this thread, I'll make another just for you - that goes for all the requests here. Altra&Cryogenic, also, are on the to-do list.

So I've been looking over the download statistics for the things I've posted thus far, wondering just what kind of a reception these have gotten. Every single album thus far has between 10 and 25 downloads, with a few exceptions. That's pretty damn fine as far as I'm concerned, and reason enough for me to keep this going until the thread hits its limit. Thanks for listening, /jp/.

Next up on the list is another very chill instrumental rock album with electronic influences. If you liked Toe and te', this should be right up your alley:

Great thread but a distinct lack of pop, and group sounds from the 60s-70s needs addressing.

Also, more folk and 70s Okinawa music would be nice.

Huge win would be gained by sharing the artists that influenced Hirakawachi 1-chome... They are the only group whose music has ever made me cry, god I'm glad I started learning Japanese early on in life (20 years ago).

Sorry man, but pop is my weak point. I just don't have very much at all! If you'd like to see some, though, hit me with a name or, better yet, share some yourself - make the thread what you want it to be.

I can definitely agree with the 60's, 70's and Okinawa music, but the stuff is hard to find - even more so than anything Japanese. The only other 70's-ish music I have probably isn't the style you're thinking of, but it's worth a shot, anyways:

Yellow Magic Orchestra helped pioneer the electronic genre (Or so I'm told!) and they've got a pretty groovy sound. This here is their second release from 1979, "Solid State Survivor", but if people are interested I can put up a discography! Please, tell me one way or another, though - my connection is a slow one, and each of these albums takes an effort on my part.

It's that time once again, folks. Night draws nearer, and I'm about ready to call it a day, so one more round of uploads and comments!

This one is, again, one I'm hearing for the very first time, but I really like what I hear. Naikaku's "Shell" starts out slow, mixing rock with a flute of all things, giving the whole thing a Spanish or Italian feel. Just when you think you have a handle on their sound, though, they switch it up - and it's just as great as ever. I'm glad I picked this one up, and recommend that you do too.

Now, as I'm about done for the night, and I don't want to leave these requests sitting, I would ask that anyone with a lead help pursue (Or, if you can, fulfill) the following requests that have been posted (Or in my case, hinted at) throughout the thread:
More Ruins and Koenji Hyakkei.
More Clingon.
More Furuido. (古井戸 should you choose to scour.)
The request for more Takuro Yoshida has been fulfilled, but if anyone happens to have yet more, there is an audience for it. (吉田拓郎 should you choose to scour.)
More te'.
Panicsmile - Anything at all! A discography is at http://panicsmile.hp.infoseek.co.jp/discography.html should you choose to look for specific albums (Which I have found to help, occasionally.)
A band in similar style to Mutyumu (夢中夢), Coaltar of the Deepers, and/or Shiina Ringo, for recommendation purposes.
Altra&Cryogenic - Anything, again. That they've put out very little makes them hard to find, but I'm curious as to how the Anon in question even heard of them!
More Noodles, though I'm not even sure if that was a request or a delightful coincidence.
More pop, group sounds from the 60's and 70's, folk, and Okinawan music - Quite the broad request, that.
And an answer as to whether people would like more Yellow Magic Orchestra. Even if it's a "No", please say one way or another, I'd be perfectly happy to do so if people have an interest but so far people have had an interest in everything.

With that, I bid you good night, Anonymous. Should I die before I wake, know I died rockin'.

Hello, and good morning! Welcome to day three (And I'm amazed it's lasted that long) of...well. This. Whatever it is.

Let's kick off the morning with a bump and a repost, and hope some people join in for the downtime.

Ai Aso's "Chamomile Pool" feels about right for the morning. Slow, relaxed music and vocals with just enough distortion to sound at home in a Grateful Dead song grace this album, but the whole time, you can't really help but feel like something is...off. The way everything comes together is extremely relaxing, and good for waking up to, but still just a little bit creepy. Hard to quantify (Though that could just be the hour), but worth a listen.

I'd love to tell you what this is, but I really can't pin it. I know there's a genre in there, somewhere, but all I can hear is "Back yard music" or "Tea time music" or "Cooking music". Ambient, I guess, but it's a little too up-front for ambience. Still, I enjoyed it - I'd go for a sample mp3 first to see if it's your style.

I wish there were some good people in London I could work with.

I seriously have several hundred dvds of Japanese music (and about 3k of other Japanese material) which I would like to sort out and share to the wider community both on and offline.

The material goes from the 60s right up till now, but I cannot do it myself due to very personal reasons.

In other news, it seems I've almost run out of music! Unless I start dipping into the extremely mainstream, which I'd really rather not do since most people here would have heard of them all anyways, uploads will slow down considerably from here on out. Most of the albums up until this point have simply been very lucky picks out of the pile of what is (with increasing clarity) not very good music. Oh, the confusion this name has caused me! Here I was assuming it was poorly tagged until I came across the album art! Poorly tagged it may not be, but the audio quality is only 128kb/s. If you're picky about that sort of thing, be forewarned.

Thankfully, though, their style is crunchy enough for that not to make too much of a difference. This is another one of those bands best summed up as "90's rock", they're not really the best at what they do, but I've got a soft spot for their style. Kicking off today is an EP by Heaven In Her Arms, which is a little different from most of the other music posted so far. The closest approximation would be "screamo", as much as I hate to admit it. Switching between slow, quiet sessions with spoken-word lyrics and louder, more energetic screams, all the while backing them up with eerie instrumentals, this EP is a bit of a ride. You may not like screamo music, and that's all right - maybe this isn't for you. If you can stand it though, give this a listen. It's a cut above most of the stuff I've heard.

While we're doing something completely different.

The word "Metal" is used to describe a lot of things. The term itself is so widespread that it doesn't really mean anything by itself, any more. Sadly, I'm not nearly familiar enough with the hundreds of genres that fall within it to specify just what kind of metal this is.

Killie is bizarre. Absolutely, undeniably bizarre.

I've been listening to "Offering a Sacrifice that Presents and Indicates Mournful Resentment of Today" for probably 15 minutes as of this writing, and a good 10 of them have been speech samples. The rest has been chaotic noise rock. The album feels really heavy and tense - in a good way. If you're not up to listening to people talk for long periods of time, though, stay away from this one.

Please do not adjust your song name tags; I confirmed myself that they are indeed correct (If just as bizarre as the music itself.)

Today seems to be a day for the screamers, the moshers, and the headbangers. Strange how often choosing things at complete random puts me in these streaks.

Not really much to say about this one - a quick EP to throw on the pile, mixing the trademark screams with very complex beats and rapidly changing styles throughout. Only 15 minutes long, but enjoyable while it lasts.

You can see a few of the other albums I already uploaded in there, which is what caught my attention. Not bad, overall.

Plenty of people so far have put in requests, and anyone is welcome to pursue them. Likewise, everyone's welcome to share what they have, regardless of genre or rarity - music is music.

On that note, though. Unless people want more of what I've already uploaded, specifically, I think I'm about finished - almost everything I have left would either be a repost from a previous music thread, Touhou bands that everyone's heard a million times, or off the blog I linked earlier, which wouldn't serve much of a purpose.

Of course, as promised, I'll keep an eye out for all the requests that have been put forth so far, and make new threads for them should I manage to find anything. Feel free to add to the list - looking for music can be just as fun as listening to it, sometimes.

I'm going to bump this one last time to make sure people who can't get on during the day have a chance to see the more recent contributions.

Thanks for listening, Anonymous, and have a nice day.
