One for every new type of weapon, yeah. Wonder if any are good.
Them being randomly generated is better for me though. Since I love doing practically nothing but dungeon crawling and town visits. More gloriously random collectables sounds fantabulous as hell.

I'm not going to update yet though. Not till Custom(-G) updates. Losing out on all those positive changes is something quite undesirable. Some new artifacts, materials, and dirtywater unblessing aren't really worth that. Not yet.

The problem with randomly-generated is it basically means "you will never find one unless you actively hunt down adventurers". I'm in the postgame and I have never found a single artifact that isn't of the "drops from X enemy" or quest reward type.

>> No.21622514

I just started playing OOEN for the first time after coming back to Elona after a couple of years. I already like it a lot more because it's tweakable and if there's an aspect of the game that causes me grind in an unfun way I can just tweak the settings to reduce the time it will take. Gold/platinum/materials/etc.

Made it finally possible to get cure corruption potions whenever my character is about to be doomed by really bad Ether effect, whereas in Elona+ that would have eventually led to a reroll.

I do feel like I'll be missing out on those other arcs and areas from E+ though, and Elona+Custom-GFU looks WAY too easy, to the point that most of the realism is gone and you're barely playing a game anymore. Are there any Elona+ variants that are similar in function to OOEN?

>> No.21622886

>>21622514
Custom and its variants are open-source. The source code is human-readable these days, and Custom-G includes a guide to compiling (and decompiling) HSP, so you can tailor the game as you see fit.
Although I can't imagine someone familiar with Elona having corruption troubles. You can't scrounge up poker chips from a min-level Nefia?

>> No.21622907

>>21622886
In my experience the game has always been super stingy with poker chips as well as certain other types of material drops that make it really annoying. Even in OOEN, I set the material drops to x16 and still could go an entire night of grinding through dungeons before I found some, and don't even get me started on fucking waterdrops and seawater.

>> No.21622918

>>21622907
Add onto that that despite having a very lucky thief with as much luck increasing equipment as I could find, I still end up losing blackjack more times than I win, which makes the vanilla "maybe you'll find 1 poker chip if you dig 20 times" pretty unbearable. With OOEN and x16 material drops, I still burn through most of them to get just 1 cure corruption and nothing else of value so far. It's still a bit of a chore, but not a game breaker now. I'd say I'm familiar enough with the game but Etherwind still catches me by surprise because I lose myself in doing escorts and travel and forget what time of the year it is, usually a few steps away from town or one of my shelters, but still enough of a walk to acquire a crippling effect that needs to be dealt with before it becomes a death spiral

>> No.21622937

>>21622907
I think materials in Plus were changed a few versions back so that different types of materials were more likely from specific kinds of gathering spots, and different kinds of gathering spots were more likely in specific types of Nefia. Maybe I'm misremembering?

>>21622918
Use a statue of Ehekatl or eat blessed food before playing. Also, Plus added an option to fold, so (as I understand it) you could bet 5 chips to basically have four "rerolls", improving the odds of you lasting long enough to get a cure potion.

>> No.21622983

What's a better place to set up a base, near port kapul/derphy or palmia/lumiest?

Cast return to Larna, enter the mountain pass, read a scroll of escape. Then it's a short walk into Lumiest.

>> No.21623011

>>21622997
That actually sounds interesting, there isn't a way to cast return to a place near derphy and port kapul right?
I'll do that, thanks dude

>> No.21623969

>>21622918
Wait for a lucky day to play blackjack. Blessed food is +100 luck. Ehekatl's statue is worth +77. A happy apple is +20, all three luck feats together are +15, and a mica item is +3.

A lucky day is +777 luck.

King Xabi gives you one free potion of cure corruption for starting the main quest. You can bless it to remove three corruptions. If you need more than that before your character gets off the ground, you are not being nearly careful enough with etherwind. Ether corruptions are not a serious problem in any version of Elona.

>> No.21623992

>usually a few steps away from town or one of my shelters
Carry a shelter with you.
Etherwind dates are so rare that failing a single job by the time of year, if you're not past escort jobs by then that is, is quite reasonable.
It's definitely not something to reroll a character over, regardless. Even the worst ether diseases are but an inconvenience.

Usually by time I feel like throwing myself into etherwind for the hell of it I have a stock of 30-50 or so corruption potions just sitting around from dungeon crawling. Not ever bothering with blackjack.

>> No.21628062

652 starting speed, of course. Give him a gun and watch everything die.
Generally not recommended in Plus, since you can just buy speed with AP (and high starting speed becomes something of a handicap toward obtaining AP). You'd be better off with a god pet, or any pet with a useful/rare special ability.

>> No.21628090

>>21628062
I'm mainly using pets, and I already have a few of them, Yac pet, a harpy, a gun fish and the starting cat.
I didn't plan on keeping him after getting the Kumiromi statue and some other stuff.

>> No.21628441

>>21628006
Their speed makes them offensively overwhelming and the metal race makes them nearly invincible. Give him your best gun and some rubynus equipment so he can't die and you'll beat all of act 1 and half of act 2 for free.

>> No.21628662

>>21628006
All bells definitely have cMetal. And I believe all bells have cResEle; gold definitely does.
cReEle means they have complete immunity to all elemental [damage] besides straight magic. I believe that doesn't count for status ailments, like darkness protecting from blind or sound from dim. But it still means they can't die from those hits alone regardless.
cMetal means they take 90% less damage from attacks. (Only physical in plus, but straight magic resistance can cover the remaining magic attacks)

They do have a downside of starting with 1 Life, so their HP is fucking tiny.
You can offset that with rubynus a little, which has a bonus of 3 Life each piece.
As for the straight stat, in Vanilla you can probably only (hero's) cheese that pretty far with Little Sisters (So make sure to collect those books of rachel). In plus's act2 you can also spend AP (Which is harder to gain due to its starting stats/speed) and music tickets on more hero's cheese.
But that speed lets them almost hit everything before they get hit at all, as far as act1 story levels go.

>> No.21628678

>>21628662
AP on straight speed, rather, not also on hero's cheese.
>>21628090
Bells are great besides their downside of slow AP gain and higher AP cost for Life.
If you're not planning to keep it or hard grind it then that's a great choice.

>> No.21628889

>>21628662
In plus the two best bell builds are to either get a bell of termination and give it rubynus equipment and/or hero cheese, or to get any bell, reinitialize it wil Maile, and then use AP to get it 800 speed and a good life score.

In omake overhaul and oomsest you should be able to get comparable results from catching a bell and feeding it jure-blessed or opatos-blessed meat buns, but I have not tried it.

Why do you play Elona?

>> No.21630140

So the wiki says you can ALP Urcaguary after getting Grandel from her, and she won't have it in her inventory anymore. However if I pickpocket her after the quest she clearly still has it. Do I need to kill her once to get a version without the sword to spawn? I want to limit the damage she can do to more easily use her as a punching bag.

Seems it can only bring them down to 50, but that's still definitely a lot better than defaults.

>> No.21631057

Someone said something about teaching pets Distant Attack with Custom AI. How do you do that?
I have a weapon with Distant Attack on it in my pets hand. But the option to teach it isn't anywhere in the Custom AI options.
Continuous Attacks also isn't in the AP options for pets. Only PC.
Like >>21575584 said to teach them BOTH. But >>21575651 said only Distant Attack can be taught via Custom AI.

>> No.21631068

>>21631057
>"Teach an ability" allows you to have your pet begin to learn an ability. The conditions are: 1) You must know the ability. 2) Your pet's primary attribute for that ability must be at least 2x the stamina requirement for the ability.
So don't shove the weapon on the pet. Shove it on yourself.
And make sure it has the stats for it, generally anyway. Distant Attack is DEX, but only 2SP, so it only needs 4DEX.

>> No.21631155

>>21631068
Apparently that works for Continuous Attacks too. I just never learned that due to using ranged primarily.

Also whoa, gokiburi got 2000AP from one level120 awakened dungeon. Not even letting it killing all the monsters, just most. That's sweet.

And according to the wikia it should be (CurrentLife*2) +300 (+300 for cArmour, or +800 for cMetal)
But it doesn't mention the +500 for cResEle (Double checked in source.hsp)
Funny how many specific things that wiki lacks. Like it doesn't say all Bells have cResEle at all anywhere. Though it does imply it in the Metal race page, where the few creatures without the bitflag are specified as not having it.

>> No.21632093

>>21631989
And that's fine. Normal even. Only earlier bells are even recommended to reset, and only post-E+1.83.
Termination is strong enough on its own that all it needs is some life, which is certainly a less effort than regrinding out its stats entirely.
You could also farm AP without resetting anyway. It's just slower and harder since you need to find monsters with INI strong enough to still give AP to such a creature.

>> No.21632397

my wishlist that I wish one of the variants would take up (currently playing +cg):

1. better late-game skills. there should be extra cool stuff that you could do with a skill at 1000+. for example, maybe crafting valuable things that have high skill reqs, or ability to get extra-valuable rare fish, or whatever. I want every skill to have a cool thing that you can do that justifies grinding it up to insane levels.

2. better UI for the pot for fusion. putting items in it one at a time is just pure shit. more useful items, too, while we're at it - most of the craftable items are worthless and pointless right now, needs a cull and addition of better items, maybe gated behind massive skill requirements.

3. better gatcha / gambling. give us treasures that are actually worth playing the gatcha / blackjack for, then massively increase the cost of using those machines. right now there's basically no point playing those in the lategame.

Literally something like
>Ah. You wanted me to tsukkomi (Or butt in, if avoiding transliteration, either works) with "You're missing one zero"?
>Well, that's... Sorry/Too bad/My bad
The existing English lines work fine as is. Arguably better than literal. Besides the lack of "butt in" to put focus on the timing, anyway.

There's a lot of small things like that to nitpick about in Elona.
But it generally works well enough so I can't really complain or get motivated to TLC/QC everything.

Externallize should only for Cards, Items, and NPCs, maybe scenes.
The dialogue itself is mostly in source.hsp, with some in the /data/ folder. Or gsource.hsp for some machine translation and other small changes.

They haven't changed much in the past few versions I don't think. Chances are there's not much changed in 1.90, so the current 1.89.3 should be as up to date as you can get.
It's just not in that weird RefFiles format for the github. I'm not sure how to convert that to or from it.
Looks like RefFiles stuff is just snippets to change manually (oh golly manual data entry) in source.hsp but noted with TODO marks on each line. Hmm.

Just working with source.hsp itself, saving translations changes as commits, then rebasing that to 1.90 when it updates, should work fine, I'd think.
Unless there's a tool to convert to and from that weird WIP format at least.

If you keep winning you still get your corruption potion and can keep getting good stuff but 7 is the number to hit. Get casino chips by digging into resource nodes in dungeons the same way you get other materials. Save them up and only use them on lucky days.
Once you have more than you'll need you can trade them to adventurers for gear since they have high value. I rarely do this but it's worth keeping a few in your house rather than your storage for this reason.

>>21659061
Keep in mind we're talking about people who know very little about the game. When I started playing way back in the /vg/ threads before + was commonly played people were restarting left and right because of corruption. And find them in dungeons. Crawl lots and lots of dungeons for levels and check potion drops.
Those are far less out of the way than bothering with Casino on lucky days.

And adventurers themselves can have them to trade for other things, or steal. If you're competent at pickpocketing that works very, very well. That's really why they're sometimes recommended for trades, they're lightweight enough to steal back while being high value.

Once you get to getting 100,000gp from each dungeon boss and do dungeons back to back to back, or find a superlure and cook shit in your personal food shop, then money is a pretty much a non-issue.

The most popular variant of Elona (which hasn't updated in 9 years) that, I assume, most anons are playing is Elona+ by Ano. If you're fine with playing it in Japanese, just get version 1.90. E+ Custom and E+ Custom G are addons for Elona+. Custom restores Japanese events that regular Elona+ lacks if you play it in English and lets you customize pet AI, among other things. Custom G is an addon to Custom that reverts some of the changes that Ano added to Elona+. Custom hasn't updated in over a month, so you'd have to play Elona+ 1.89 if you want to use the latest Custom and Custom G.

Omake is another popular Elona variant, but I haven't tried it to know what's special about it. Omake itself has many different variants. I think it only gained prominence recently after Omake Overhaul got an English translation.

Most other variants aren't translated, so you'd have to consult their own sites to see what they are about. Since you are fine with Japanese, simply grabbing the latest version of those variants should be fine.

oomsest is one of the omake sub-variants, and its full name is : Omake Overhaul Modify Sukutu Edition South Tyris. You can basically see it as the great grandson of Omake Overhaul.

Although the title has South Tyris in it, at current stage there are not much content about South Tyris. This varient is mostly focused on bug fixing (especially overflow problems), enhancing the End Game (Void) content, improving early playthough experience.

Here are some significant changes at oomsest:

-Wandering vendors will sell Rods of Wishing and Domination; Scrolls of Faith, Gain Attribute, Growth, and Contingency, and you can see these goods quite frequently when your fame is higher then 10k, which is still pretty early stage, just beware the price though.

-Some of randomly generated Younger Sister have ability to throw love potion.

For weapons, lightsabers are usually best, even after the nerf to innate pierce, but it's possible (though very difficult) to get your vorpal chance to 100%, which makes innate pierce irrelevant. Since you're talking about E+ specifically, if I remember correctly, once you have 12+ hands with items that invoke great stuff like timestop/MPdrain or do extra magic damage, dual wield overpowers it. You want to play either oomSEST, and Omake derivative, or Elona Plus Custom.

oomSEST has:
Slower character growth, similar to vanilla Elona
One act, same as vanilla Elona
Normal enemies that go up to level 50 (scaling enemies go higher almost indefinitely)
More random quests and random encounters with various NPCs
Monsters of different types fight against each other
Improved random dungeons with gimmicks, like a dungeon type where NPCs of different religions will kill each other
NPC adventurers are far more significant. They appear occasionally in dungeons and have much stronger equipment than in vanilla or E+. Eventually a rival adventurer will arrive who becomes more powerful every time she is defeated
Learning skills is slow and expensive and you're better off not learning skills that won't be useful to your build
You can found your own town and recruit NPCs to live in it
Grindy and powerful equipment crafting system
A ton of new, powerful feats for different character builds. Many underpowered feats have also been buffed
Extremely powerful spellmaking system available to members of the mage guild
Food can be blessed by the gods, and this is the best source of potential growth, as well as a good way to raise speed. It allows low level pets to remain viable throughout the game
Balance favors weapons and magic. Ranged weapons are better than in vanilla and E+. Martial arts are usable but you're putting in extra work for inferior results
There are void balls which can be used to capture pets in the void and they retain their levels and stats

E+ has:
Much faster character growth
Normal enemies that go up to level 200 (scaling enemies go higher almost indefinitely)
A three act story, with a fourth on the way. Each act has its own towns, quests, bosses, etc.
Learning skills is fast and easy and the game rewards you for learning everything
Balance favors martial arts and magic. Dual wielding is kinda bad and ranged weapons are garbage
Living weapons are extremely powerful to the point of rendering other weapons pointless for much of the game
Killing strong enemies awards a resource called AP which can, among other things, permanently increase your speed and health. AP makes early game pets viable for a whole playthrough and makes the riding skill far less important
Lots of unique items and they're generally easy to obtain come midgame, so you don't need to be very reliant on random drops
Monsters in towns despawn over time so you can't mess things up as bad as you can in vanilla, for better or worse
Changing item materials and enchanting equipment are easy and relatively cheap. It's easy to get basic equipment together at the start
Late game you can add new enchantments to items, making it easier to get a full set of resistances and anything else you need
A bunch of heavy-handed nerfs that punish playing the game and introduce needless tedium. A mod of E+C called Elona Plus Custom G undoes much of this and is highly recommended.
An annoying thirst system with pissing mechanics. I recommend carrying a magaqua in your inventory as this will prevent you from ever becoming thirsty. The whole mechanic is removed in E+C-G

Plus is easier to get into. If you have no roguelike experience then you should probably go with that.

>> No.21675797

>>21675572
Having tried both for a fair while, I am incredibly plus biased, well, Custom-G biased. Even with a ton of roguelike experience.
Now to be an ass and pick on only the things I don't like:
>Slower character growth, similar to vanilla Elona
Besides the god blessed food that undoes that. Without extra content to justify it for balance's sake.
>Improved random dungeons with gimmicks
I absolutely hate this. It's indeed gimmicky shit. Feels random and pointless. When trying that fork I even ran into plants planted in a dungeon; mostly vegetable and gem plants but still. Why? What does this add to the game? It's like bad flavor shoved onto a good meal.
>NPC adventurers are far more significant.
Way TOO significant. They carry end game gear from the get go, and there's practically millions of them in every city I went to. Once you have some items to trade there's no possible way to be undergeared.
Seeing as slowly gearing up to something tolerable is one of the only factors that makes the early game enjoyable, and that completely kills balance for that off, it's a pretty hard deal breaker.

Having them band together in groups, appear in dungeons, and be recruitable to live in your town is great. But fuck they're everywhere and strongly geared.
Totally changes the atmosphere and design of the game. Like a really really strong flavor added to an otherwise good meal.
>A ton of new, powerful feats
Including straight up crazy double damage Feats for weapons types. Which you can supposedly access almost from the get go on some classes.
At least antiRNG living weapons and artifact fusion take some time to find and get, so they rarely affect the early game.
>Ranged weapons are better than in vanilla and E+
How, though?
I get you can dual wield them there, and certainly tried that. I get there's +100% damage Feats to take, and got those.
But it still seems weaker than E+'s fixity anchor, which adds armour levels to damage multiplier, and straight sets the distance modifier to 2x max for accuracy's sake regardless of distance.
It also still seems underwhelming compared to melee/mage anyway, but that's to be expected since it's a style of convenience rather than one of power.

>Much faster character growth
In straight numbers, yes.
In my experience, though, to get strong enough to cover most content in the game takes about the same time as Vanilla, if not more.
It was just rebalanced around all the extra content; all the stronger creatures and areas, or the story length. Like "We have ALL THIS to grind for, do we REALLY need to have it filled with this long of a grind just for the story?"
Taking 3 or 4 times the amount of time Vanilla would, just because there's more content, would not be as enjoyable. Obviously so.
Though if you put heavy, heavy focus on AP, then it is indeed far faster.

Or if you do that weird method of doing nothing but farming herb in herbs and attacking hungry demons, passing time as quickly as possible.
But practically no one does that because it's awkward unfulfilling gameplay.
Also patched in 1.90; hungry demons don't straight up crash hunger, but rather give a de/buff to make hunger drain slightly faster.
I hope this DOESN'T get removed in Custom-G. It benefits standard play rather than that awkward stuff, since the buff lasts even after the low level creature is dead.
>Dual wielding is kinda bad
With crazy mutant hands, multiwielding even better than martial arts. Even just +10 hands (12) from Gavela on a standard body is enough to consider.
Invokes and magic damage, man.
Just 2 hands does suck, though, sure.
> and ranged weapons are garbage
They're still weapons of convenience. Viable, even somewhat decent with the fixity anchor and buffs. Though certainly more grindy to make viable, I found they made grinding simpler. Like just hold [f] rather than stepping near things or handling magic stocks.
I like ranged.
>Living weapons are extremely powerful to the point of rendering other weapons pointless for much of the game
Artifact fusion is stronger if you can find the right near attribute-less godly equipment. Though that takes a ton of grind to work out.
>Changing item materials, enchanting
Not much cheaper in normal play. More expensive than savescumming the old RNG.
Like adamant usually takes 7 superior material scrolls, unless the item is already superior.
Enchanting is cheap and easy to access though, yeah. I'd usually +3 everything off the bat. It gets relatively costly when you're changing gear out frequently, like with early game, so going past +5 before your equipment is pretty much set can be counterproductive for money management.
Past like +5 I think, it's more expensive than scrolls, which should be easily found in invested magic shops by then.
>Late game you can add new enchantments to items
Usually resistances are covered long before reaching artifact fusion, unless the player straight beelines through the story to reach it and never stops to search for equipment.

Spellmaking? That sounds either lovely or dreadful depending on how it's implemented. Hard to precisely imagine regardless.

From the wikia alone it seems questionable. Really overpowered from the get go due to custom power rating, just with a lot of "buts". Kind of like a child trying to make spells for roleplaying with friends, but trying its hardest to "balance" it without removing that power.
>"But I can only cast it inside! On certain days of the week! And enhances spells doesn't affect it"

https://elona.fandom.com/wiki/Dungeons#Omake
Like from that point down. It's all just flavor. Bad flavor in my opinion.
It does look nice on paper, to try and make things less boring during heavy long grinding which is inherent to Vanilla gameplay. But it's a distracting nuisance in game.
Even plants in the forest floors. They can't be entirely ignored until intentionally sought out like acorns (Since those only appear if the player mines walls, not if creatures break them). Because they take priority over items when [g]rabbing from those squares.
That one's a small nuisance. But Might Towers, Magic Towers, Lonely, etc, those are enough to make dungeons just straight up skip-worthy.

Actually a lot of omake's change could be described that way.
Like a child trying to mix things up for roleplaying's sake. Jamming whatever ideas come into its head into the game in whatever way possible, making it like a freeform roleplaying game.

I suppose that could be enjoyable if you view it with eyes of a child and don't think too critically of it all.
That's just kind of really, really hard for something you're bound to spend hundreds of hours in easily.

Also likely you can get several for storehouses from the void if you avoid turning them into stardust, that you might be able to shove onto a pet with dojo/discardedranch trickery (Though that does supposedly restart Custom AI skill/spell learning, sadly).
Other fairly easy options are Diablos, Nightmare, and Shena's Panty.
Though I'm not sure how well Shena's Panty works with melee. Like it acts as a blunt weapon for sure. But I don't know if it has penalties for damage die due to being a thrown weapon firstly.

Both posts you replied to are mine, I figured maximum time stop would be good. He's dual wielding right now but I got lazy with gene engineering and just gave him normal humanoid slots. I might tinker with those later depending on how he's doing.

You can definitely give him 10 extra arms from gavela at the cost of 60 life, then AP that back up pretty reasonably.
Probably gene engineer up to 4 hands before that for a total of 14. That's pretty strong.

I rarely bother with melee either. Needing to walk next to every target and actually bump into targets, or spend SP on shadowstep/distantattack/continuousattack is just too annoying.
Or pets for that matter. Because they wander around stupidly on their own and end up dying.
But then came along >>21514212 >>21575493 that poster who pointed out some awesome things. Plus >>21575584 with the idea of alternating the two

When a riding pet is targeting things instead of you, you don't even need to bump into targets.
Once it learns both distant attack and continuous attacks then it can even work 4 squares away without ever stopping.
If it's a pet without cResEle, once you have enough weapon slots you can spend one or two on covering remaining resistances. Be it from a living weapon or artifact fusion. Or cover those with armour, since you have humanoid slots too.
With a riding pet, having so many extra limbs doesn't carry strong speed penalty.
Once it's powerful, even if it's a glass cannon, it's not going to die incredibly easy like retarded wandering pets.
Shit's SO cash.
Just as convenient as range for PC, but more powerful and faster to level.

The magnitude of some restrictions (eg: Bleed after cast) stacks with custom power rating too,by poor choice of restrictions, you could render yourself immobile for a long time while bleeding yourself to death just after one cast of high power custom spell.

Yeah, Rankis is good. Nether damage and time stop are both really nice. At the bare minimum it's good enough to beat Zeome. If you're playing plus then it loses to any living weapon, though.

With weapons the main things you want to look at are the accuracy, damage, pierce, elemental enchants, and useful invokes. The weapon's accuracy and damage become increasingly less important as time goes on because your stats add a flat amount of damage and accuracy which eventually overwhelm what the weapon offers. Pierce becomes more important as time goes on and enemy armor absorbs a bigger portion of your damage. You can ignore your weapon's pierce % if you have enough vorpal enchants on your equipment, but 90% of the time a weapon with low stats and high pierce beats a weapon with high stats and low pierce. A weapon's elemental damage is based on the amount of physical damage it deals so that never goes out of style. In plus most elements are heavily resisted in the late game so you want magic element unless you're stacking vulnerabilities (eg element scar plus wet status for lightning). Time stop is one of if not the best invoke you can find on an item.

Especially when multiwielding countless timestop weapons, as chances work consecutively. Like, 3 timestop weps isn't quite 12% chance due to how probability works, but it's close (11.53%).
If you can manage 10 timestop(300+) weps somehow, you can have a pretty damn good chance of nigh constant function. Since that's roughly 33% chance of 3 turns time stop.

There's only two invokes/attributes I'd even consider to be near timestop. Though they're more useful than powerful.
MP drain. For extremely drawn out battles with crazy high levelled creatures that heal themselves, to make them overcast for a ton more damage each hit. Though drawn out battles are generally better avoided if possible, I guess.
And grenade, for 90% chance of some decent crowd control when rushing dungeons with melee/range.

>Besides the god blessed food that undoes that. Without extra content to justify it for balance's sake.
Blessed food helps your potential a lot, but it's nowhere near the level of plus's buffed potential potions or cheaper platinum training. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference pre-zeome, though it is a big help if you want to go for the chaos forts or kill the gods or explore the void.
>Seeing as slowly gearing up to something tolerable is one of the only factors that makes the early game enjoyable, and that completely kills balance for that off, it's a pretty hard deal breaker.
It's true that you can get powerful equipment fairly quickly from trading with adventurers in oomsest, but I'm not convinced that trivializes the early game anywhere near as much as plus does. For a few measly gp you can boost your pv to the point where level-appropriate enemies can't hurt you with physical damage. Living weapons really aren't that rare and all it takes is one to have moderate resistances to every damage type. The rare drop trigger is also severely overtuned and it's not unlikely at all that you'll find one or two powerful precious items in your first five hours. This is to say nothing of the likes of strings assassin and violent garden which basically break act 1 on their own. It's also worth mentioning that early access to a +10 weapon in oomsest isn't as much of an advantage as it may seem. An early +10 in plus makes a far bigger difference, though that will reverse over time.
>I absolutely hate this. It's indeed gimmicky shit. Feels random and pointless.
Complaining about being able to gather fruits and herbs in forests is frankly absurd. Complaining about special nefia is silly too. If your character can fight without pets, lonely nefia reward you for that. If you can't, you can safely ignore them. Likewise, magic and might nefia are advantageous for a few characters, disadvantageous for most, and a no-go for some. If you ignore them, there's no harm done. If you visit them, you get a nice bit of extra variety. I don't like dark nefia, so I don't visit dark nefia. I do like most of the others and they bring a lot of variety to a game that really needs it.
>How, though?
Ranged weapon are helped by being able to dual wield guns and the extra feats, but the biggest improvement is that their multipliers are brought in line with melee weapons because of the change to how weapon + enchantments work. Even if it were possible to obtain a +100 gun in plus, it wouldn't be as powerful as a late game +100 gun is in oomsest.
>With crazy mutant hands, multiwielding even better than martial arts.
Yes, multiwielding is very strong, but it's an obscure build I didn't feel was worth mentioning in a quick go-over.
>Like adamant usually takes 7 superior material scrolls, unless the item is already superior.
Why would you use 7 superior scrolls to make an adamantium item? Combine 1 superior scroll and a cheap material kit into an adamantium kit. That's way cheaper and easier than changing materials in vanilla and omake, and it works on godly and living items.

Cheap material kits at souvenir vendors, where they're most likely to be found cost about 40-50k/ea with 100 negotiation. Changing material kits' material also costs a bronze coin now, which aren't really incredibly common. Not to mention needing to travel all the way to Garok's place.
Superior scrolls only cost 10k with 100 negotiation, don't require any travel or bronze coins, and can be made easily with Jeweler for a reasonable material cost.
Living weapons can be changed with superior scrolls alone. They count as Miracle tier.
For Godly equipment, yeah, kits are the only way. But for everything else I'd rather just go for superior scrolls due to convenience and price.

Am the other guy.

I don't mind parts being dodged, that means they're accepted as not being wrong enough to correct.
Those opinions are articulated enough that simplifying it down to that is, well, wrong.

You don't have to melee with ranged weapons. Like "brought in line with" means "set to the standard of".
Putting ranged weapons besides bows in the hand slot will allow you to attack with them like melee, bumping into targets, and still use ranged for calculation/training. It will also treat them as offhanded weapons for the shoot slot.
That's something I'd really like to see in plus, honestly. One of a few things, like hitsplats, overhead speech bubbles, or autoloot.

Massive multiwielding was indeed an obscure build until like 3 years ago, I think. Indeed, not so much now.
It's even roguelike general's favorite for elonaplus as far as I've seen. If that means anything.
>>21678403
Still kind of out of the way, and something you really don't want to have to bother with once you have several kumiromi statues.

>but I'm not convinced that trivializes the early game anywhere near as much as plus does
Not so much the early game as the mid game, I guess. Like once you have enough money/items to trade, but not a ton of rare drops.
Having a whole ton of powerful items just immediately available to trade for cheapens the whole process.

Not that plus doesn't have things that cheapen processes like that either.
But for something people try to sell as Vanilla-like, it's quite far off the mark. Having those double damage Feats is also pretty off, and very quickly accessible.
>which basically break act 1
Thankfully the game has more than 1 act.
Though I never found string assassin or violent garden to be more useful than hypnotism or regular magic anyway.
>I do like most of the others and they bring a lot of variety to a game that really needs it.
I really don't think the game needs that sort of variety. But then again that's why I prefer plus over omake, variety comes in the form of content and combat rather than flavor.
It does sound nice on paper. And I thought I'd enjoy it while reading about it. But actually playing with it felt terrible.
It just makes dungeons inconsistent and gimmicky, not interesting or entertaining.

Really, like a bored child jamming random ideas in without care for balance or gameplay, only caring about roleplaying or mixing things up for the hell of it.
>>21678455
Oh dear. Trying again now it does indeed only work when bumping. Could have sworn it worked from shoot a month or two ago, but it's even the same version. Well that's gay.
Bumping was the one I lazy tested for strength versus plus's fixity anchor then. Because at least it would be a tradeoff of convenience for power while still using ranged levels for calculation.
Fixity anchor still seemed far more effective due to crazy accuracy/distance boost.

Also sorry for splitting posts up and going back and forth.

One scroll is easier, if it's seven I'd go with the materal kit. Though one should also consider how much easier it is to make early game money in plus and how much cheaper investing is. Even something like selling rat jerky will make your first million in short order. If you do go the seven scrolls route, investing magic vendors and buying the scrolls will still typically set you back less than converting items to adamantium will in oomsest.

And since oomse, the condition to gain "Crossfire" action is changed to : level up when "Shooting" reaches lv15 or higher (just like

Like, plus's faster gains can easily be justified by having more content to reach. Because it does, and you do need more power for it.

You could move it around and adapt it to Vanilla/omake.
The interface.bmp is pretty easy, and should be mostly compatible from the get go with few changes.
All of the side characters can be used for pet sprites. But the character.bmp would definitely need reordered and cut down.

There is a Beautify port to Vanilla/omake already. It's just an older version without that newer barely there clock and whatever else changed.
You could start with that, compare side by side or flashing between, and update only stuff you like.
Shouldn't take but an hour or so.

Which isn't always a bad thing. He struck amazing balance with the platinum/potential rework. Both to rebalance the speed for the fair levels to cover new content, and to tweak the frequency of platinum spending.
Like, having it go up by 100% potential at a time, and down about that depending on how high it is, is great. Incentivises visiting towns more frequently, and breaks up the grind into shorter loops.

The only thing that really makes faster is shit outside of the scale for content length. Like reaching the level cap, for example.
But that's a genuinely crazy goal that's generally going to take hundreds of hours anyway. Having it done somewhat faster, so the player can get onto new genes or pets or other grinding fuckery, is a positive factor.

It works as stated there
If the target has >1/9th HP, it just does moderate nerve damage. Which should have a chance to paralyse the target, and be blocked by resistances.
If the target has <1/9th HP, it works similar to Decapitate, in that it will do massive damage to finish the target off, giving a chance for a 'Flesh Doll' instead of body parts or meat.

Flesh Dolls act as Rank 10 cooked meat that looks like the creature, visually, though not the same hue.
They are embalmable to avoid rotting to act as statues. But they cannot be dyed/materialchanged to different colors, to make them stone-like or match the creature's hue shift. Those scrolls do nothing and dyes change the sprite selected.

Whoa. That sounds quite irrational.

I've dealt with cockroaches before. They're really not something to be scared of.
Like they don't really bite or harm you at all. They're just disgusting and live in filth.
Getting rid of them is pretty easy to do too, if you're willing to deep clean and seal some things (sinks, cracks).

I think you could make it playable without ever touching them though.
Like, just edit their dialogue out, then change their names/sprites out with something else.
Make them into silly ninjas. Or literally brown demons (茶色い悪魔)
Shouldn't even need to touch the source.hsp since Custom externalizes generic NPCdata. Searching says they're files 439, 523, 524, in /externalize/NPCdata/.
That should take care of random spawns.

Then you could just ignore the Maid Mansion quest and never use Discarded Ranches, if that's still too much for you. Or actually edit the source.hsp to change the dialogue for that.

Why is incentivizing more frequent busywork a positive thing? I'd agree that plus's platinum system is an improvement on vanilla's, but only because the vanilla platinum system is dogshit, especially the enormous grind to learn your build's basic skills. Once everything's online I'd honestly rather play with the vanilla system, which is much slower but at least involves less meaningless interruptions.

Man wisps suck as pets. I figured because of the high mana and double evolution it would be great but it rarely ever does anything. It just sort of floats around and if something is near it it will always just run. Is this fixable with the custom-G ai stuff or should I just find some other caster?

Sure. You could give it something like this:
>Self MP > 20%: And
>Target Distance < 6: Lightning Bolt
>Target Distance >= 1: Move (Forward)
To make it chase down enemies and zap them with lightning bolt spells. More complex strategies are possible depending on how many slots are available. Just remember three things: it goes from top to bottom and does the first command that works, ranged attacks can only target enemies at a distance of 5, and be sure to set up the conditions so that at least one command will work every time (otherwise you get error messages).

Oh yes please.
Vanilla's awkward sprites with doubled lines, due to seemingly being upscaled with non-integer nearest, are awkward stuff. As well as the weird proportions of things in general.
Probably due to Elona having 32x32 tiles at some point in time. Like not everything got completely redrawn by the final 1.22 to fit that change.

Indeed. Custom AI completely overrides vanilla AI. Your pets also end up standing around doing nothing if no action can be taken, so make sure the last one is something the pet is always allowed to do. Usually, moving toward the enemy.

>> No.21684989

No. Custom AI is completely separate from Default AI. There is no Default AI fallback.
Like that guy said, it will indeed only do that action.
BUT, SPacts can only be done every other turn with Custom AI. So it'll complain about not knowing what to do and just stand there every other turn. Only ever shadow stepping, never straight meleeing.
Try
>If target distance >1: Shadow Step
>If target distance =1: Attack (Melee)
>If target distance >1: Move forward
Also consider teaching it Distant Attack and Continuous Attacks. They work at 4 squares away. The former doing standard melee attacks, the latter doing more attacks but no invokes.

I've noticed custom AI shits the bed if you're in a huge open map with lots of enemies, like those dungeon floors where there's no walls. Even if I have very specific commands for only attacking if things are in a distance range, and/or pretty much impossible to fuck up commands like do Y if player health >10%, the pet in question will just stop doing anything at all and spam errors. Is this a script-fixable issue?

If it's an spact (Every other turn only) or a spell/skill that it's still learning (Learning progress chance) then it could be impossible to do that turn.

Acktually, every 2 turns is just the minimum cooldown, and moves that cost more than 10 SP will take longer. (Or maybe it's more than 19, I'm not sure offhand exactly how HSP does integer division.)

>target range <= 4 and target distance >= 2 then continuous attack

Then I'll go into a wide-open dungeon room and the pet (mounted) will refuse to attack when things are next to us, things that are around us, won't target things I target/attack, just spams errors. I think the pet itself targets something that it "tries" to attack, way off screen, and fails to execute anything as a result, the bug happens in wide open areas but if I hide in a small room where there isn't any possibility of offscreen enemies there's no issue.

This is correct. I don't know how pet targeting works; maybe it picks the most dangerous enemy, or maybe it's random. I think you can manually target an enemy to change your pets' target to that, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, what you need to do is add "if target distance > 1 then move forward" to the end so your out-of-range pet will move into attacking range instead of spamming errors.

It's "preserve entity as target", and it's used when you want the pet to hit the thing the condition checks instead of its current target. Like, "if player HP < 50% cast Healing Touch" would need PEAT so that the pet would cast Healing Touch on you instead of whatever it's trying to kill.

Another riding player here, yes it does suppress the error messages for sure.
Like people said here, having something which can always evaluate true and always be accepted as an action to attempt, such as move, shuts it up. Even when riding when it can't technically move.
Otherwise the Default AI trying to move normally would probably cause troubles.

But like he said the larger issue is that hi pet isn't attacking anything. >>21685740
>won't target things I target/attack
Like, that doesn't happen for me at all. * still lets me change targets and my riding pet targets that one just fine. Though it certainly won't target nearby creatures by default and that's kind of gay.

Remove both of those PCHP<10% commands. They can never activate at distance>4, and you alreayd have them set to go off if that's not true.
Change that lightning bolt to distance<6. Or distance<=6, I don't remember.
Then jam target distance>=1:move at the end. Forward or backward doesn't matter since you're riding.

I've found that target distance>=1 is better than PCHP>10% since it actually always evaluates true, as Custom AI is only used whenever it has a target, and that target is never on the same square.
Even if you * target yourself it just prevents it from fighting at all without spamming errors. Which is useful in itself for if you want to keep the surrounding stuff alive. Though if you actually attack anything that'll shift its targetting pretty easy.

On that note, indeed attacking things yourself should change targets for pets even if * doesn't.
So one way to take care of failure to target things is to start attacking stuff yourself with ranged or magic.

Whoa. Being mad about that at all, to me, is a foreign concept.

It's free software. So Noa (probably) doesn't profit off people downloading from him at all. It may even cost him bandwidth. Alleviating that is generally a positive.
Also means that if official Elona hosting goes down plus would still be easily available on its own, as a separate entity.

It makes the whole process of getting plus running easier.
Though Custom, Custom-G, and Custom-GFU still need applied separately. So that's probably irrelevant.

It's also very largely changed in assets. There's nigh zero purpose in downloading the original if you're going to replace so much.
That would be a waste of space, bandwidth, time, and effort. With really no benefit for anyone. Just for some odd "moral" behaviour.

Like, at this point it's more of a complete fork than just a mod. Having its own separate, simplified distribution is just straight up better.

Then again, I agree with many pirate doctrines and have nothing inherently against pirates anyway.
Especially for distribution, even for paid works.
There's lots to be said of ``free'' demos, advertising, and distribution.
Especially with the very popular example of a creator's success in embracing such things, Recettear.
