You should then first either install Locale Emulator or set your computer in locale japanese (google how to do either one).
Then you launch the setup (not the startup, and with right click > locale emulator > run in japanese if you installed LE).
If you get an authentification error when you launch the game (same way you started the setup), you put the corresponding files you download in your "plugin" folder.
Then you extract the patch no cd to the game files.
Finally there is a patch.zip folder, it's a day one patch that adds more sprites and cgs (not sure about that one) to the game. You install it by opening SupportTool.exe and chosing the second to last option in the drop down menu and putting the files in the folder it opened.
Now it should run in japanese.
You then simply follow whatever instruction is given by the language patch you chose.
One thing : the fr patch will prevent the patch from working, the game itself works perfectly and so does the tl so you can keep the files where they are though. I don't think that's with the english one.

Someone should put that sort of tutorial in the op.

Welp I finally finished Tsukihime and what a roller coaster those last two route were. The Eclipse was a really nice bow on top of that too. Overall all the routes were great and the characters too. Of the heroines Hisui ended up being my favorite but all of them were good in their own respect. I'll be on to KT soon enough

The core (lesser grail) needs to be kept alive for the gate to the Greater Grail to remain open. The Grail won't kill its core.

In Fate Illya, a perfect Einzbern core, stays pretty much the same when the gates are open and lives through the ordeal. She can't access the Greater Grail because she has been created with good protections against magical AIDS and shit. Illya best grail.

In UBW, Shinji, a bastard core with the heart of Illya, mutated because the construct weren't as good. Yet, he was kept alive, because the core needs to be kept alive by the grail. He probably had access to the Greater Grail (or, said otherwise, its content spilled on him), but absolutely no control, thus the fleshy bits.

In HF, the core is Sakura, and she has access to the content of the Greater Grail the more the gate is open. She still needs to be kept alive for the gate to remain open though.

I just finished reading the entire game through the patch. It's pretty good for HQ assets and widescreen support, but the text randomly forgets to clear the previous page and just writes over existing text and it's a fucking mess. Voices occasionally have a static hiss but if you lower the game volume and raise the OS volume in general it's fine. I'd say go for it if you need the widescreen support mostly.

That's an interesting experience you've had so far. Definitely check out Kara no Kyoukai if you haven't yet, it's the only other "main" Nasu work.
Otherwise there are Kagetsu Tohya and Hollow Ataraxia but those are more about the characters of FSN/Tsuki. And there's a ton of other Fate shit as you know, but they drift further away from the stuff you're interested in as they became more obsessed with Servant shit.
Also pray for Mahoyo sequels like the rest of us.
