From what we've seen of them in Touhou Sangetsusei, the fairies' worldview isn't terribly out of sync of certain western societies when looked through the lens of a child, but is a poor match for the dog-eat-dog world of Gensokyo. Their idea of pranking certainly doesn't resonate well with the Human Village, but the Human Village's ideas of pranking are foreign both to the fairies and ourselves.

Maybe but the fact Marisa is human does mean she at least has a couple of concerns and worldviews that differ from Cirno's due to them being different species. She technically doesn't, but both she and the Three Fairies of Light are shown to in fact fear death or at least painful defeat, to the point where they show fear, for Cirno in-game no less, which is something that only a handful of other characters in the series have done, period; her aggression and motives are implied to be based off this, as shown in Hisoutensoku. This might be what makes them all smarter and "stronger" than their suicidal peers: since they have self-preservation, they need to think harder and smarter in order to overcome their weakness, which is weaker than even a human.

I wouldn't necessarily say they fear death, as Cirno seems more scared of the thought of going to Hell than dying itself in Phantasmagoria. But they do indeed show self-preservation as a concern which might indeed be part of why they are above minor fairies. I don't know who wrote that, but that also happened in the manga. It sounded like the person was saying it as something that was discussed in another work, so I wanted to mention it. She was stealing it along with the three fairies. Incidentally, she was smart enough to freeze it in a way that didn't kill it so it could stay fresh, but at the same time they couldn't carry it properly either.
