i think reading speed just comes with familiarity like u get to a point where ur eyes dont need to see but a few key spots in a sentence for u to know what its saying (and i dont mean translating back its still happening in the same language)

basically if u have to always go word by word character by character in silent reading ur still a actual baby

conversely for listening have u ever watched tv and basically been able to predict the next word in real time constantly someones gonna say as to be able to talk in near unison with them ? (idk i did weird stuff like this a lot as a kid) ur need to develop that kind of predictive ability before ur really in a good place

when i see a word i know i've seen multiple times but i forgot the meaning or reading or both, add it
but only with the japanese def that matches the exact context i saw it in
and the sentence/phrase i saw it in on the back for future reference
usually words like that only come up a few times a day if i read a lot
so my reviews should be very small
everything else i encounter during input just gets looked up, not added to anki
feels like a good plan and pretty 楽
minimalist anki

Conversely, in Japan an effect called "椎茸 しいたけ シイタケ shiitake" is often used.
In the past, just added light to shine like a star,
but now, the shape of the cut of shiitake is the style of the modern style.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df-YfGmxdmM

It means the feeling of strong "interest","joy","fun" and "happy".
In Japanese, as one of these emotional expressions
we use 目を輝[かがや]かせる、目を見開く、瞳孔[どうこう]が開く usual.

Also there are many other idioms(慣用句 かんようく) with eyes
and other body parts fr head top inclusing "hair" to foot.

means same, but now just not using only for police phrase.
ネタ (oppsite タネ=種=seed) means proof,
the word ネタ already is not a slang, just word origin was a slang.

this 上がる means same "up",
in this case also means fr lower to higher class someone or organization,
police(not police man) in Japan are used call "お上 okami", one of 上級機関.

so that phrase means "the (exact) proof caught or sucked up already".
= もう証拠を[は]、つかんでいるんだぞ。
= もう証拠を[は]、握[にぎ]っているんだぞ。 = in my(our) hand

And, at 3rd panel the word look like "ヒュ hyu",
but that is "ヒェ hie", fr "ひええ hiee ", one of freezing onomatopoeia,
it coming fr verb 冷える hieru changed to "ひえひえ" as onomatopoeia.
also often use "ひやひや" meaning coming fr same origin word.
looks like small ユ reason is just handwriting = 手書き、走り書き
走り書き = rough handwriting 細部をあまり気にせずに、すばやく書き留める

note:
手品(てじな magic)としてのタネは、意味が違う。
このタネは、トリック trick や 仕掛けgimmick

シースーは、意味や考え方は合っているけど、覚えなくていい。
もう使わない業界(芸能界)用語だから。

the point of grammar guides isn’t to read the entire thing front to back and not start inputting native content until you’re done.
the point is to read enough to get you comfortably on your feet, and then serve as a reference thereafter for new things as you encounter them in input.
japanese the manga way is really good for that, because it entirely consists of various pieces of native content (manga) broken down grammatically, with all words defined as well. gives you confidence for going into native material yourself.

>Well, literal in real life toddlers learn languages purely through immersion
>Are you dumber than a toddler?
no, it's not "purely" through immersion in the first place. you’ve bought into a myth and now you’re hanging it over people’s heads lol. how silly.
before starting school, children can only form rudimentary sentences and phrases (トイレ行きたい!外国人だ!ピンク好き!あのさ…あの…あのさ).
they can not understand most adult speech and they definitely can't produce it themselves. this is after *thousands of hours* of listening to adults speak. very inefficient.
it isn't until they actually enter school and learn correct structure that their ability to speak coherently using correct grammar past the very basics like above, develops.
japanese first and second grade classrooms are plastered with posters of grammatical reminders「これ、それ、あれ、どれ」etc and how to use them, and 国語 is literally 1-2 hours a day of them learning how to speak, read, and write correctly.
the whole "kids acquire language perfectly with only immersion" thing is a meme and a straight up myth. hundreds of hours of school is responsible for a lot of their ability.

also people who believe in the immersion only myth forget to acknowledge that learning a first language is a matter of survival. children pick up what they need to express their needs and wants from caregivers and to the world. their brains prioritize their first language more than anything.
as an adult with your native language established, your brain knows you don’t need japanese to survive whatsoever, that playing eroge is not a matter of necessity. so it doesn’t prioritize the new language nearly as much as the brain of a child in their earliest years.
that combined with the fact that the immersion kids get by age 5 is 10x the amount a second language learner would get in the same amount of time, plus what i’ve already said about their abilities still being a fraction of adults’ despite all that time listening to them....
yeah it’s not efficient at all to try and learn “like a child does” as an adult learner. you better crack open them guides and a dictionary.

Decided to quit Anki. Holy shit it's causing me some massive burnout. My motivation is close to dead at this point and I feel like I need to resuscitate it by going another route. I have around 2200 ish words memorized from the core 6k, but I feel like I should just start reading and sentence mining directly from manga instead. It'll probably be very difficult as well to look up every other word in a sentence, but at least I'll be reading something I enjoy and learning in context right? Instead of just looking at a bunch of isolated words on a flashcard. Any tips from those who have walked a similar path? How far into your studies / at how many vocab words did you quit anki? What was your experience like sentence mining and do you have any tips?

I'm probably not going to input new words I gain from reading into an SRS system. I'm hoping that if I come across them often enough (and search them up often enough) eventually I'll have them memorized. I'll be reading the same manga book over and over til I can confidently read it front to back without looking anything up, and then moving onto the next entry in the series. My basic idea is that this will surely make me learn/memorize all the words in that one book. And then I'll move onto volume 2, which will use many of the same vocab, etc. By volume 6 or 7 I should probably be able to (not perfectly, but generally) read almost anything, right? At least at the manga level. And then I'll prob repeat the process with light novels this time.

Thoughts on this approach?

i do 2 hours or so of japanese subbed anime per day. i know it has varying functions. right now im at the stage where i'll hear/read the sentence and feel that it means a certain thing and if I check the eng subs i more or less got the gist but if i look at the components of the sentence i'm not really sure why i thought thats what it meant as a whole. a lot of it comes from inferring from context, tone/inflection etc i guess

doing it for every single word though seems like a stretch

i love days where i'm steadily getting my reviews done AND reading. feels nice to be productive.
i only have a lot of reviews atm cause im cramming the kanzen deck for the N2 in 10 days. what's been helping me is tiny time-boxes. 5 minutes of reviews. then whatever i want to do for 5 to 10 minutes (usually browse this shithole, or message friends etc). then another 5 minutes. the wall of resistance is so tiny when you make the timebox laughably small. and i usually end up doing more anyway.

No shit, Sherlock.
What it does though, is giving you THE most important foundation to build the language upon.
Once you have mastered RTK, you will have an underlying understanding of how Japanese words come to be. It's akin to Neo seeing the fucking Matrix code.
You will pick up and learn words so much faster, because you are already familiar with their concept and you already know the most important part of the word itself. It will make you laugh hysterically how piss easy the language suddenly becomes. Instead of bruteforcing them like a sweating pig.
It honestly blows my fucking mind how it takes these radioactive island monkeys 12+ years, what could easily be achieved within 1-2 years through dedicated learning.

Just keep looking up words you don't know in the definitions and after a thousand or so dictionary words and a few thousand you already know, then it shouldn't be that hard. If it's taking too long then just keep english for your backup till it's easier.

when ur not satifised with an eng dic entry check a japanese dic and see if u can get a clearer picture
if u cant figure it out just go back to reading more
ull naturally start doin it more often as u get better at nihongo
theres no need to force it and it would be a worse use of ur time than just reading more

this is all you need to know about anki:
yoga did like 30k cards adding 50 full fat sentences/ concrete noun cards©/day for 3 years and now can only say maaaa and chotto. Also he's fucking gross to look at. do you really want this to be your fate drones?

the funniest part is that he says he forgot it all too.. if you are forgetting it so easily it's because you never even knew it. It was just an anki srs list in his head, had he really known it then it would have grown even when not in use.

he also says he would only look words up when making anki cards, so he spent the rest of his immersion (lol) staring at chinese turtle shell script

then why does pretty much every single person who ever gets fluent at a foreign language claim they start to forget a lot of it after a few years of not using it.

i imagine once you hit some level of fluency accompanied by frequent use, you lose the ability to forget everything except the more obscure nouns.

people even start forgetting their native languages once they've lived for a couple decades in another country. and kaufmann doesn't reach high levels in most of the languages he learns.

They're not forgetting their own language they're just not as fast at using it. They can practice it and be perfect in no time, same for any language. You either know it or you don't, you don't forget what you really know, it just grows.

are you retarded
>They can practice it
yea. they'd have to practice it. because they forgot aspects of it.
>You either know it or you don't, you don't forget what you really know, it just grows.
runs contrary to everything i've heard from anyone who's gotten to a high level in another language and stopped using it for a few years.

Not instantly recalling =/= forgetting it
Learn what language acquisition is. It happens completely in the subconscious. Therefor it only grows when you're not conciously aware of it. You're a brainlet and don't even understand how language is processed by the brain..
