Any Murakami fans in here?

>> No.2157031

I liked Hard Boiled Wonderland more than Windup Bird.

Am I a faggot?

>> No.2157044

got nearly all his books, my favorite author by far

>> No.2157053

>>2157031

I couldn't say.

I didn't really want to start a tier list of Murakami's works, I wanted to discuss them.

So what did you think of Wind-Up Bird?

>> No.2157061

I read Hard Boiled Wonderland and The Elephant Vanishes recently.
Enjoyed both, and I'd like to read more by him.

>> No.2157075

Tell me why I should read one of his books instead of more manga.

>> No.2157077

>>2157031
I also liked Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World more.

I am also not a faggot, but I'm not sure if both of those statements together are enough to say whether you are or not.

>> No.2157084

>>2157031

Nope, you're perfectly normal. The Wind-up Bird Chronicle was rather generic.

>> No.2157091

All his main characters have about as much personality as the typical lead in a VN.

>> No.2157093

>>2157053
I love that scene where Mr. Wind Up Bird counts bald heads with May.

Also, for as long as I live, I'll never forget the scene where Boris cannot be killed. YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO KILL HIM, GODDAMN.

>> No.2157109

>>2157091
That's my #1 complaint, too. He's always the same slightly nostalgic, slightly out-of-step guy who seems two finger-widths removed from his own life. Also, he loves food and music.

>> No.2157143

I found After Dark surprisingly enjoyable, considering that it's the kind of surrealist story with no ending that usually pisses me the fuck off.. I haven't read his older stuff yet, but I intend to at some point.

>> No.2157160

>>2157143

I guess you can be glad that you read After Dark first; it's not considered one of his best works. The older ones ought to blow you away.

>> No.2157181

I liked the one where the main character liked jazz, spaghetti and western novelists.

You know, he had the affair and his girl got sick.

That was probably his best novel

>> No.2157191

>>2157181
Very funny...

>> No.2157209

I've read all his works, and Kafka on the Shore is my favorite. Even has an awesome reverse trap.

>> No.2157210

>>2157160
I actually stumbled across Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman first, and After Dark was the second shot I gave him. I was intensely annoyed by most of the stories in Blind Willow, so After Dark was a huge step up from that.

Maybe I can just work my way up from his most mediocre books to his best and thus elude all disappointment.

>> No.2157304

Japanese Bird Cooking Spaghetti is by far Murakami's greatest work.

>> No.2157341

Started with Kafka on the Shore and loved it, then read After Dark. I also have Norwegian Wood, and I plan on getting Hard Boiled Wonderland and Wild Sheep Chase.

>> No.2157360

Entry level shit.

>> No.2157362

I've read all of Murakami except for Kafka on the Shore and so far I liked Norwegian Wood best.

>>2157362
Seriously?

>> No.2157387

Kafka on the Shore is the worst, really. In terms of novels, Hard-Boiled is the best. A lot of short stories are tied for my favourites. A lot of his stuff is pretty similar but I like it none the less.

>> No.2157391

>>2157378

Yeah. My friends that read Murakami give me that exact same response, too.

I know it's pretty horrible. But Norwegian Wood just left me feeling pretty cozy inside I guess.

Listen to them not, brother!

I'm pretty sure NW is his most popular in Japan.

Does anyone else happen to have the cloverfield press edition of Tony Takatani? Or seen the movie perhaps?

>> No.2157404

>>2157399
bad film.

i think i downloaded it from adc, i have no idea who the distributor was and i don't care.

>> No.2157413

>I know it's pretty horrible
It's not horrible, it's his masterpiece.

Also, Ryu > Haruki.

>>2157181
lol'd

>> No.2157416

"On seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning."

Game over, kids.

>> No.2157426

That story moved me.

I read that story and then I stripped naked and stared at myself for hours (my bed was underneath a skylight at the time, which reflected me as well as showing the night sky)

>> No.2157455

NW would make an awesome VN.

Once upon a time...

A sad story, don't you think?

>> No.2157479

>>2157416
This isn't good. It's like a miniscule version of some of this novels. A majority of the other short stories are much better.

I'm not your shit pal, you pervert.

What is that anyway, some sort of scat thing?

>> No.2157519

I kind of have to agree. When going over favorites, I actually forgot about that one.

>>2157506
Hahaha. Ahhhh.
You're funny.

>> No.2157526

>>2157485
More like you understand the story because he falls in love with a 3D girl. What kind of normalsocialfagbro are you. Shouldn't you be at a frat party with your 10 wives drinking wine from their stomachs and being the CEO of a social networking site?

But yeah in terms of short stories, I can't decide which of the three collections I like more.

>> No.2157574

Which of the Visual Books mentioned ITT have the best eroscenes?

Norwegian Wood! Wind Up has a loli but no scene.

>> No.2157591

Kafka on the Shore. The main character actually has sex with his sister. The main character actually spends most of an entire chapter completely naked. I'm not making this shit up.

Wow!

>> No.2157601

A naked youth sitting around a cabin in a pseudo homo erotic relationship is not as cool as the foresty hospital sex scene in Norwegian Wood.
