When I was a kid and watched Dragon Ball on TV there was this scene where they blew up Boo but he turned into jelly regenerating again and that scene was extremely padded out showing everyone’s reactions and faces just looking at the goo regenerating and what I didn’t understand as a kid was that the sole purpose of that was to build suspense. Instead I got mad and internally screamed at the characters to not just stand there like frozen in place and attack the goo stopping him from regenerating but of course that didn’t happen and when everyone was fucking shocked he regenerated I just turned off the TV and played outside because that shit was too stupid for even the little shitter I was.

i've been reading while looking up words and using anki very lightly by adding like 5 new words a day on average. but i think i'm about to increase that to like 20 words a day because i'm seeing so many words that i encounter a lot but just keep forgetting. but the most annoying part is there's a ton of relatively frequent words that use the same kanji as other words i know and sometimes i still forget those readings. those words have definitions that make sense in hindsight so i feel SRS is perfect for retaining them. i don't see how anki can't help with this. i've wasted a lot of time listening to the "anki bad" people.

I remember I used to think that the only good anime were stuff like Texhnolyze, Utena, Evangelion, and Lain, and that everything else was just stuff to waste time with, but I slowly grew fond of slice of life anime, and ended up watching several hundreds of single-cour SOL anime.
After that, I became kind of interested in learning Japanese, and just kept on watching random anime for the sake of picking up Japanese words. Ever since I've learnt some kanji, and gotten into reading visual novels and light novels, I haven't really been watching much anime at all.

i don't know if you're referencing me but when i bitch about my "listening skill", i mean i know roughly the 3k most common words in the language while reading (and other random words) but can't really catch them while listening. so to me that's pretty much a listening skill that needs to be developed. i have to develop a familiarity with them spoken that reading alone hasn't given me.

my conclusion after doing over 200 anime cards now is that quiz master is right, they are extremely effective for deeply nailing down new vocab and much more enjoyable to review than regular word cards or even regular sentence cards

Subs2srs gives you needed audio and snapshot with one click and morphman will give you the best vocabulary for you, especially with a priority list. They also train your listening skills the most out of any format and give you a nice guideline for your pace with the audio length.

Yoga (or someone else, I heard it from some nukemarine follower) is making an addon to auto generate definitions. This would make making the cards go from easy to trivial. Even though Yoga is a buffoon he does make some useful material.

i usually don’t write for vocab practice unless i get the urge, sometimes it’s stress relieving to write kanji. and sometimes it makes me go “ah THATS how this kanji differs from that other one!” but yeah i only do it maybe 10 minutes per week total
