>People are buying this game with the hope that it'll make them laugh, not educate them about Japanese humor.
No we are buying because we want Japanese humor, if we wanted bad western humor we would watch youtube or something.

This is like the who Blizzard thing with wow classic. Fans ask for wow classic and Blizzard goes like "no you dont really want that, you think that you want it but you really dont". Now that they started losing money they finally realized that fans actually want we say that we want.
The only difference here is that VN fans are dumb and keep eating up all the crap the companies shit out anyway.

Has it ever mattered? VNTS has always gone against the grain. We have never had a great influence on how the market moves. Commercially, the script quality matters, but only to the point where it becomes a problem to the average reader. A full price release using the original Edelweiss script would still be a train wreck of a release today. However, the overall translation accuracy isn't something a reader can generally tell, so that tends to have much less of an impact as long as the script reads well enough.

That said, most readers seem to be fine (or even prefer) if the comedy is over the top in a comedy VN judging by how Nekonyan's two comedic localizations have been broadly received, although if it done in a way that sufficiently distracts from the script it seems like it can backfire like it did for Chrono Clock..

Well, yes, there are exceptions in all cases. If a script's quality - whether good or bad - is abundantly clear to an average reader, then it is quite likely it's on the extreme spectrum; that is to say that it's extremely good or extremely bad. That being said I think you can get away with a 'bad' script in most cases, as its commercial viability is going to be more dependent on other factors. At least by comparison. Sekai's Hoshimemo is a good example of a script that was so bad it failed to escape notice from even the average reader, but then again I'm not so sure it was fully responsible for its commercial failure. ChronoClock was just as bad and it did well enough.

I don’t think you should compare this to CC or Hoshimeme. Yes, there’s a bunch of memes that were added when the original lines were normal. However, the game as a whole is still a memege at its core.

Can't comment on Flowers or Princess X as I don't know anything about it. As for the others, the Nitro+Chiral games were all announced at the same time so I assumed they'd be going through them individually. There was a tweet about Togainu no Chi about a week ago so apparently that one is next, and Sweet Pool was released in December, so it's only been about six months really. Slow Damage and Machine Child are apparently not even released in Japanese from what I can tell? So I think those are a different situation entirely.

I thought Himawari was a 7/10 but Island felt more like a 6/10 or even a 5/10. Guess I just don't like G.O. as a writer. He does some things extremely well, like humor, but I feel like he has absurdly bad pacing issues especially. Also, the dude can't into tone for shit.

I don't agree at all regarding Island. I don't want to argue about it, though. It seems like it's kind of a "love it or hate it" sort of game. I don't really understand why, though; the negative reaction some people had to it surprised me.

As the person who runs it, I do want to explain myself and apologize for the lack of updates. A lot of the blame for the initial editing stalls were on me trying to figure out how to best release the translation. As translation was going on at the time, I made the choice where I would have multiple people translate per route but then tie it together with one editor in the end to make it more consistent.

But pinning it on the one editor I had was unfair and unrealistic and after giving it more thought as progress stalled, I decided we had to have multiple editors work on it to deliver it timely and so we made the next best effort with trying to get everyone to follow a style manual and edit that way which is the next best option I currently have. I have now around 3 people and inducting a 4th one this weekend, but it seems to be already paying dividends on speed. If we don't finish this year, hopefully we'll be done by next year. Yeah I know I missed the 10th anniversary of the game coming out but hopefully not going to miss the anniversary of the anime coming out.

1. Japanese usage of the word lolicon is different from western, but you surely must know this if you know Japanese. Kind of like pedophile is used over here by retards when speaking about people who lust over 16 year olds.

Yes, I am under the misconception that a nukige is a nukige. A nukige which is called after one heroine who is the focus of absolute majority of the H-scenes. She's the sole main heroine.
