Mistranslations:
11. No, she is about to tell MC what the president told her, as you can see just 3 lines below. Remember that MC's had no contact with him since his interview.
16. At least make it "Laid-off's Two"
24. I can just make Himeo-san spend the night here.
27. She's answering for him. Line would be something like "He's not loitering around. He said he's looking for a job, even a part-time one, every single day."
33. She had never mentioned breaking up. She means that despite the fact that she's moving out, she's not ready to end the relationship completely.
34. He's saying he'd help out and pay half if it wasn't for the ridiculous logos.
39. I wonder where exactly you got the part about money from and why, since two of the tenants are often late with their rent, meaning they can't be trusted when it comes to money.
60. There's no "we". He wasn't there in this route.
76. Come as in enter, not ejaculate.
97. before, not after. Pretty big difference.
101. No, he took a day off just 2 weeks before this. She's saying that he's been working Saturdays.
110. Hit, not hate
112. about feeling/being cold, not having a cold
116. I wondered if I should tell her (Mitoko) that I'm still meeting Asami from time to time.
123. He's comparing them as a couple to MC+Mitoko as a couple
127. She's talking about the stone, not him

Technical issues:
1. Merged a line and the next line's voice call command (fixed)
12. Lorem ipsum (3x) (fixed) + merged her line with narration (fixed)
17. That's Mitoko's line from a few lines back.
29. Kaya's second H-scene has the wrong animations https://webm.red/CXPr.webm (EN), https://webm.red/XyBj.webm (JP). Even worse, the animations go directly against the narration.
106. Save comments are screwed, but I don't think anything can be done about that.
111. Merged her line and narration
130. Mitoko appears right from the beginning, before she's supposed to. This goes against the narration. https://webmshare.com/gLQmy (EN), https://webmshare.com/RyYPd (JP)

58. Hamasaki, not Hamashima. Hell, you've got it right on the very next line.
68. Kamikojima, not Kagoshima. Yes, Kagoshima is the correct reading of the name, but he mispronounces it. Same for his next line, NIS_0006.OGG

Misc:
4. Western name order when all the other names in the game are in JP order
5. Forgot to write the rest of the sentence (fixed)
8/9/10. Name doesn't fit
14. Buntarou, Yoshinori, and Kihee are speaking in this line.
13. Unedited Engrish from the JP release
18. Removed the talk about Obon for no reason, especially since it appears later on in the VN anyway
21. Fuck you
23. We all love full romanization, but you're inconsistent when you have Kyushu, Tokyo, etc. in the script
26. Original line is slurred to the max.
28. She uses "Mr. Kumazaki" throughout the whole VN. There's no change in the JP script on this line.
41. Chronologically, the bottom pic goes before the upper one. Localizing both -sama and -san as Mr. came to bite you in the ass. Buntarou's laughing at something that Kihee's already "said" in the EN version.
42. Let's be honest here, amerifats won't know what be able to imagine a 10msq room any better than a 6 tatami room. What's worse is that 4.5 tatami was localized to 5msq (line KIN_0110.OGG), which is like 2/3 of what it actually is.
45. Princess, not Himeo
51. Nice meme, but it doesn't fit here. Himeo, not Sasaki, is the master. His words are from one retainer to another - the reference is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mito_K%C5%8Dmon
56. It's retarded to pull out Ms. for one scene (2x) when you've made him use just Himeo up until now
59. Very minor, but is this really appropriate here? She had a small amount of alcohol put in her non-alcoholic drink. The goal was to get her drunk, not unconscious.
63. Toko(-chan), not Mitoko.
75. A complete mess, not to mention the missing line break. "55, which exceeds Father's 30 by a wide margin."
77. Bad double quotes. This is not a flashback line.
84. Yeah, how comes? Maybe because you changed a gender-neutral honorific to a male one.
93. There's a bunch of lines like this. The line break is completely unnecessary here; Look at all that space.
122. He keeps switching between Honoka and Ms. Honoka constantly, even in the same scene when talking to the same people.
124. Forgot honorific
126. Not chest?

We've known this for two months now fuwatard. And as mentioned last thread, MG does the exact same thing and it's not always bad. The guy who did Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden (and 2, but that's not out yet) was one of these "lesser experienced TL's" and he did a fantastic job for his first project. The guy saying he got a job in that thread was the guy who did To Heart 2 and is currently translating HaruUru, so it's not like he doesn't have experience already, he just doesn't have any professional experience.

The fact that Fruitbat Factory is involved at all suggests that the Japanese developer took the criticism of their original translation plans to heart and went out to find an actual localization team. The other strong criticism has been the lack of a planned R18 patch, so if the developer were also to take those complaints seriously it wouldn't be at all surprising to see an R18 release going through Jast like Eiyuu Senki, especially with Norotoro being a big enough title that Jast would likely be quite willing to offer to distribute an R18 release.

Not all. In Conjueroror's titles the issues tend to be more egregious and overt. I'd think even someone that's usually dismissive of such issues would probably find themselves raising an eyebrow. Not to mention that while some translators make an English mistake here-or-there, Conjueror tends to make many repetitive mistakes that are indicative of a poorer understanding of the language.

I think people overestimate the size of the hole left by removing honorifics, even if the translator is inept at portraying it differently. Honestly if Japanese honorifics didn't flow so incredibly awkwardly in English prose, maybe I could see it. Japanese writers definitely can be lazy and use extremely rote role language while not reflecting the relationship mode in some other way. On the other hand, if the relationship working a certain way isn't touched on in the source text in other ways than the 'mention' achieved by role language, is it really important? If you really do need to provide their roles for context, an inserted box providing some short narration 'Naruto was about to meet his loyal vassal, one Harold Weebe' or whatever could work.

That's generally brought up in a comedic way, and his primary conflict is trying to find meaning in his life by being needed, which takes different forms, primarily his attempt to be a parent to Mitoko, which is the thing Asami was trying to give him by making him a father, but was not able to by being infertile, which is also why it's such a problem for him to change his relationship with Mitoko to being a lover (as he says when he finds out how she feels, that his heart was poisoned). His age is only the main theme of the game when considered in the context of it making his romantic relationship with Mitoko "forbidden." I am utterly convinced you haven't read the game.

The ladder progression in Damekoi makes sense, since it shows everything that had to happen in order for Osamu and Mitoko to finally reach that final stage of their relationship. Osamu had multiple, legitimate chances to get off the train, get with another woman, and clarify his relationship with Mitoko as parental, and every time he doesn't do it, it brings them closer together and increases the possibility of them entering the taboo zone. It's actually well-done in this case, and you can even see the same sort of thing going on with Mitoko, as she tries to get over Osamu by getting closer to Tsuyoshi, but fails and gives into her feelings for Osamu. Also Mitoko needed to suffer as much as she did in order to finally confess and try to win Osamu earnestly.

The staff do come here just they don't post publicly any more (except Doddler). And even if it was true with what Doddler complained about, with how no one can see it if it is posted here, he and other MG staff have always known that this thread will be the the place where any notable problems will be posted within the first week or so of release making it a dumb choice to not at least scan the thread once a week. I was told to remove the content entirely, and was also forbidden from making a patch for the game, so I did the next best thing and deliberately left the resources inside the game files so that they could be restored by users. The archive and game code is all c# so I thought it would be pretty easy to reverse engineer and with the uncensored art still there a restoration patch wouldn't be impossible to do well. I would have left the cut script file in too but I wasn't the one who compiled the game for release.

Not at all. You always see nostalgiafags dismiss anything that is new as shit, simply because he did not grow up with it. If it was the same game upscaled you would hear Anon say it was great even though it would sell terribly. I am certain they created the new artwork to try and make it modern looking and have respect for the original game but they need it to sell. But nostalgicfag Anon will never want to hear it because it needs to be the old artists, the old character designer otherwise it's shit. It's the same tired argument with the people who live in the past and can't accept anything new and change in their lives. Even if it's a slight change to the art.

Not the TL, just wondering what would be a good way to translate that sentence into English, but found it surprisingly hard due to a lack of distinction in English regarding galge and otomege. Personally, I'm not a fan of the "so randumb" approach of TLing since it feels more like the TL/Editor trying to prove their comedic talents. It would also make it very dated and probably cringe-worthy for anyone reading it in the future if they just inserted memes just for the sake of it.

>> No.21449813

Honestly the meme translation for a title like this was probably good at least commercially, regardless of the merits of it being faithful to the original or not. Obviously though it is going to fall flat for those looking for a faithful localization, but the script itself has successfully generated quite a bit of PR and helped boosted its sales numbers while remaining faithful at least to the spirit of the original which was filled with Japanese memes. Although that said, localization companies going down this route should exercise caution as while it works here, it can just as easily backfire if a broader audience dislikes your choices or how you handle characters, such as it did for Chrono Clock.

Along those lines though, I would suggest that a localization team should avoid something like the "Chinese Power Point" line, not because the line itself should be a problem in the context of the style of localization they choose, but because English localizations of VNs that are released on Steam have a tendency to get a meaningful number of Chinese purchases even without a Chinese localization, and choosing to add such a line seems like laying a needless landmine for that subset of the audience.

But it's not wrong, there's clearly two different communities here. One side just wants to play the game in English and have the same emotional experience as the original offers (even if some of the content delivery is adjusted to provide for it), and the other side wants to play the game in original Japanese and be made to understand it. They're fundamentally incompatible views and I don't think you can really appeal to both camps at the same time. I'd also argue that the more you learn about the language, the less the second option is even feasible.

I would argue that Sankaku and Fureraba's successes show that the game script itself actually does matter quite a bit, at least for something with a comedy setting.
