rtk new testament

>> No.21403521

My experience with RTK was basically this:
I did like 2600 kanji, but the reps started getting more and more annoying to keep up with, and I eventually just stopped. I was repping the radicals too for a while but stopped. I was going to change it over to lazy kanji (kanji to keyword) but I never did. The first time I did RTK, I did the first 2200 and didn't keep up with the reps, but did them as lazy kanji for a while, some years back.

I'll probably redo RTK in the future, using Japanese words as keywords or something. Next time I might just relearn writing the radicals and do lazy kanji. I already know a ton of words, so I don't feel the need to do it.

You must've spent over 4 months doing RTK. Didn't you ever get bored of it once you were able to identify most of the kanji in stuff you read?

Not the original poster, but I'm a couple months in to RTK taking it at a slow pace (about 900 in so far). What's the issue with taking longer on it, or, what's the issue with persisting with it to mature all the cards rather than merely expose oneself to them?

>> No.21403755

>>21403669
None. I'm just a very impatient person who quickly gets tired of doing something for more than a few months, especially if it takes up a lot of my time.
I dropped core10k at around 1500 words because it took over an hour to get through reviews, in addition to which I had to my kanji reviews, which also took an hour, which took too much time away from actually playing VNs or watching anime.
Then again, that's the same reason why I dropped many of my other daily activities/hobbies in the past (like cooking, sewing, mountain biking, painting, programming), and even why I dropped out of several classes in college.

Is there anything like Nanatsuiro Drops, but with a less autistic MC? I feel like I can relate to the MC far too well, and it only to serves to awaken my anxiety issues.

I think your error resides in the part of not enjoying the journey but focusing just on the end game of the activity.

I mean with japanese, you do 10 kanji, you learn them and the pain you put on it must be equal or less than the joy you get from doing it right.

If you do something but you can´t get joy of it you always end up in negative terms, (pain debts) and it is normal you give up in the long term.

Sure there could be days you end up in debt, but in general (week scale) you should end up getting more joy than pain from any activity-hobby.

don't focus on the end game, be happy with weekly goals and you will start feeling to continue doing the activity and not to give up.

god FUCK RTK that was a massive waste of time

>> No.21405037

If you finished it, no it wasn't. Trying to maintain the cards afterwards might be, but what you actually need to do is replace the frontside with simple Japanese vocab which uses the kanji in question, and just blank out that character (just include the furigana over the space). I'm pretty sure someone already made a list of Japanese RTK keywords (making sure they dont interfere with each other) but I can't remember where, and it isn't in my bookmarks. If someone finds it, make sure to post it!

>> No.21405049

>>21405037
too late for that. i ditched the fuck out of that dumb shit after i matured all cards. because i did it once, doing it again should be much easier and i might try that. but i also might try just writing kanji from rote memory using sentences with a word blanked out.

計 is used in both 時計 and 計る with the meaning of measurement. I don't know where you'd get "plot" out of.

>> No.21405075

>>21405059
there's a connotation of "plot" that can be similar to those things. but it doesn't really matter. most meanings are close enough. that's not why RTK sucks ass.

>> No.21405104

>>21405059
Something like plotting a course or a graph I suppose. It's frustrating when the mnemonics in the book or on koohii use the wrong connotation of the keyword. This is one small advantage of doing RTK in a non-English language, since you tend to get less ambiguity about what type of word it is, and are forced to rethink the mnemonics entirely.

You could use ShareX to take a scrolling screenshot of the window. Or an older version of Anki before they switched it to output pdfs. Or you could just forget about your flashcard stats like a spiritually healthy person.
