All I remember about Gikopoi was the underaged camwhores.

So I guess it really didn't change.

Is it impossible to use Gikopoi without any japanese skills?

What is Gikipoi? Is it just a chat-game thing?

I remember Gikopoi, I should really come back and hang out when I have some more time on my hands.

I used to go here a lot. I would go into the disco place or the radio place or that band place and just listen to japanese people talk. It was especially good when it was a girl talking. They would say my name when I entered the room (guess they were saying hello but what do I know), it sounded so cute. Sometimes I would use babel fish to try and communicate with them, translating what they said back. It was fun, but a bit confusing. I also remember people from /b/ I think taking over the mic and playing scatman on repeat or sounds from CnC Generals. The last time I went there I remember some guy talking in broken english, saying that he loves me (he knew I was a guy) and that I was awesome or something like that. He was hilarious, and said he would wait for me in the same room the next day. I couldn't make it there the next day, and by the time I got online, he wasn't there ;_;

I used it quite a bit a few years ago and I understand no japanese. All you need to know is #rula and that the number in () are the amount of people in the room. You'll eventually learn where the mic and cam rooms are then you can lurk around for underaged japanese girls too!

/b/ after is first discovered Gikopoi in mid 2005 would visit nightly. This was before the Japs forcefully separated by IP address the Japs and gaijin into different areas. We had a lot of fun with those overly sensitive Japs.

Every 6 months, 4chan starts being interested in this for a couple weeks...

Were foreign IPs forced into the "overseas" server back when it was created in 2005, or did people just go there by choice? I live in Japan so I don't know. I used to use gikopoi an awful lot back when it was popular on /b/ ("ohno") in 2005. I remember this camwhore, I think she was from the overseas server. Sorry to post a pic of a 3D /b/tard camwhore on /jp/, but this is for nostalgia's sake.

Also, judging from the conversation I heard earlier, if overseas IPs were blocked from the main server they don't appear to be anymore.

Initially we were not blocked and the Jap users of Gikopoi complained about the disruptive gaijin. After that all non-Japanese IP addresses were completely blocked from entering Gikopoi. But a short while latter a server was setup specially for the gaijins.

I'm guessing the main server is not blocked anymore because the site doesn't get the track it once used to?

I think they diverted them for a while, then lifted it. The international one was fucking horrible. A bunch of idiots sitting in the one room spamming memes. Atleast in the japanese one you would have random japanese people start shouting engrish and stuff like that.

Speaking of lolis, I remember this japanese one who loved Lindsay Lohan and got offended when I said she looks like a slut or something like that. She still talked to me though from time to time.

I've just been on it. That was a pretty cool new experience, I've never been the "foreigner who can't speak English (or in this case Japanese) very well" before. They were pretty nice but it was kind of embarrassing that I couldn't talk to them very well.
