Anyone got any good bands or songs in similar vein to Turritopisis Spp. by Polkadot Stingray (I would post a YouTube video with it but I can't find one)

Not gonna lie, it took me a good minute to figure out which song you were talking about. I didn't realize they took the scientific name for the translation of べにくらげ. The track almost gives me a bit of a shoegazer-esque vibe from the vocals, so here's a couple semi-related bands for songs I could find on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCG_blC62Hg

Also I just wanted to throw this band in there because I always liked Polkadot Stingray's jazzyish progressions and melodies:

Yeah, here's a good writeup on it.
https://farsidemusic.wordpress.com/2015/02/19/rough-guide-to-the-music-of-okinawa/

All of my interest in it started with Anna Sato, who has done both traditional shima uta and also fusion pop/jazz as a solo musician and as a part of Kurofune. Her voice is very strong still, as she is only about 40 years old. I think some of the remaining legends like Ikue Asazaki are going soon, being in their 90s.

I'm sure the sound engineer has a lot of input during recording, but I think it's mostly Noko and mono. Noko's a bit of an auteur, he wants to do everything himself and does know a lot about the topic, but mono is fairly knowledgeable about these things as well (he has his own soundcloud with some nice tracks).

They did a stream a few months ago where he and mono showed off his recording room, how he generally makes a demo from start to finish. It's a few hours long but pretty interesting.
https://youtu.be/sv5zpFSSW08?t=7718 (02:08:40)
https://youtu.be/YOAgha2g4oY?t=1320 (00:22:00)
I don't remember if they said it in that stream as well, but that song (おやすみ) was one of their candidates for the Attack on Titan Season 2 Ending song, apparently, so I guess they recreated it there as an example.

Also,
Chibagin (bassist) announced in the stream he's dropping out of the band, he got married last year and they're expecting a child and the band doesn't make enough money to support his family. The band isn't planning on disbanding or stop activities, and they've still got an album coming this year, but if they really can't find a replacement they probably will.

She's probably the best musician in Japan right now. No bad songs and she releases an album a year like it's nothing.

>>21422247

I love her but the new album isn't great, just like her last album it's full of old songs. There's only 2 brand new songs on it really. But at least the old songs on it are remastered or even re-arranged slightly, I'd have to compare it to the singles.

I'd like her next album to have more new songs and be more cohesive, she tried to link the old singles together like she had planned the album to have this theme but it seems she only decided on it last minute.

Rumours are Jihen will reform for the olympics (she's the director of the opening ceremony) I'd rather have a new album by them than another solo album.

I like her first two albums, then Karuki Zamen came and blew my mind. Fantastic art-pop album… and right after that she formed Toukyou Jihen. First two album were very good, popy fun with definitive rock edge. But with further album it all became sort of boring. Then she came back to her solo career and honestly… I'm not sure what to think. She still can write a solid song every now and then (Saihate no mitai for example and her two collaborations with Hayashibara Megumi were pretty solid) but as an solo artist she's just really weird. After listening to this new album I think it's safe to say that she finally went completely bonkers. It's like she lost all common sense. At least her live performances are still solid.

I love Oomori. Next to YUKI, Togawa Jun and Haru Nemuri she's definitely one of my favourite pop artists BUT with recent comeback of Gotou Mariko I can't truly claim Seiko is the best. That spot is entirely dedicated to Mariko-chan… at least in my heart. Her comeback EP (2018 December release) was absolutely insane - intense like a kick to guts, I could feel my heart being torn out and my brain getting kicked by the sheer power of that new songs.

It's possible that there are more songs about Akihabara from the late 1990s but I am not aware of them, nor am I of any in the late 2000s. How is that nobody on /mu/ cares about anything made in japan other than few random threads about specific albums?
I would expect a j-anything general there but k-pop is actually more popular there so much it has a recurring general
Are anime/manga and videogames the only media general people consume? Is this the reason why anything else is forced into this board even if not exactly otaku related?

>> No.21517394

Well, a lot of college-aged people listen to kpop now so it's not surprising that it has it's own general. I don't think there really needs to be a j music general there, not much really happens. Does anyone know the song that in the chorus goes like

"........ nai" (6 beats, last is the "nai part")
" ..... nai" (8 beats)
" ........ nai"
" ..... nai"

And then there's like a bridge after the chorus or something that goes
"kimi no ..... nai yoooo" (4 beats)
"kimi no ..... nai yoooo"
The start of the line "kimi no ...." is high
And then it repeat the chorus again

Idk how else to explain it better. The entire chorus ends on nai. I know that nai is like a negative form of a verb and literally a billion of words can end on nai. I remember only one of them from the song: shiranai

It's by a male band (or a very masculine female voice, can't be sure), around 150-160bpm. Similar to an asian kongfu style, but the singer has a slightly different voice. The voice high, not low.
The genre is jrock I suppose. Definitely not pop.

This is scuffed as fuck but it's all the info that I have. It's a relatively popular song, I just spend an hour looking for it with these clues and still can't find it.

Not him but many japanese were saying "oh, if you're gonna cancel Denki Groove because one of the members did a bit of coke, then might as well cancel pretty much every other major western artists from Japan, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc".
The problem wasn't that Taki got judged. Japan has its own rules against drugs and that's fine, their rules. But the way Sony, Sega, TV channels, etc reacted to it by completely erasing Pierre Taki from the public eye was stupid.

So I saw this because someone posted another of their songs in the thread
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIlZCmETvsY

Then a few months later I was watching family gekijo (learning Japanese) and I saw a show with an opening JUST LIKE this video. Is this supposed to be a reference to it? Anyone know what the fuck the name of the show is? Is it just a common thing in Japanese culture? Family Gekijou shows old ass shows btw so that's why I think it was a reference.

Anyone else into this stuff or other extreme electronic genres? If you find this stuff interesting I recommend you to listen to 6th (aka Viral Program) and Yuuhei Morita (aka Remain Silent) tracks, their stuff is amazing (especially Morita's, his tracks are extremely deep and somewhat emotional too, at least to me).
