It's hard to imagine that Ib is considered old now, but I still remember it kind of fondly.

I miss when real life and the internet felt separate. The internet felt like a weird place where crazy and interesting and fun things happen, and it made you want to stay there forever and avoid real life. That's what /jp/ felt like for me. In the past few years it feels like things have really started bleeding into each other, and it hasn't been good for the internet or for real life. Now no place feels good, like a fun and crazy place you can escape to.

I know what you mean. Internet and real life are pretty much merged into one at this point. Because try leading a life without using it. Or if you try to forget it, it's always on the back of your mind, because like the world the internet is always moving in real time.

Look at difference in early 2000's when people made their own sites, to now. People genuinely seemed to have more fun and free in a way. Now everything is so restricted in speech and thoughts.

I just played Ib for the first time after seeing this thread. It felt like an eternity of walking around aimlessly, hoping that I would run into something that would progress the story.
It's supposed to take about 2.5 hours to beat, but it certainly did not feel like 2.5 hours.
How long did it take you to beat Ib on your first playthrough?

It has been a while since I played it, but I recall Ib being pretty straight-forward. I recall having a little trouble with one puzzle, but other than that I think I progressed through the game pretty quickly. 2.5 hours or so sounds about right.

Anon the first rpg maker game you should play in your life is yume nikki and nothing else. It's the paradigm of this type of game. Only after that you can complain.

While I've played a number of the bigger ones of these types of games (Yume Nikki, Ib, Corpse Party, actually not Aoi Oni for whatever reason) I'm curious if people have any ones to recommend, could be well known or obscure, and they don't have to be rpgmaker games.

If you played Ib and YN you've played them all.

I remember playing Genius of Sappheiros during a very hot summer month and I can not seem reproduce the amazing feelings I had those days.

The puzzle where you walk around as Garry looking for paint is what gave me the most trouble. The rest was just time consuming because I couldn't figure out what I needed to do in order to trigger events.
Maybe I'll play Yume Nikki like >>21308455 suggested. I'm guessing these games are like Zelda - once you understand the way most puzzles work, they're easy.

I recommend Walking On a Star Unknown and other segawa games, they're pleasant to play and have a nice balance of comfy and horror. Well, End Roll's mostly horror, but Farethere and WoaSU are balanced.

It was thanks to some Mexican YTPer that I played Yume Nikki, Ib, Mad Father, and the Witch's House. Said YTPs I found extremely enjoyable, but I had already acquired a taste in YTPs with plots by the time I encountered his stuff.

I like to tell myself the wisdom of my age will help me make better things from the start, but so much of it is actually just practice, it feels like I'll never catch up to those who started when they were 14. It isn't ridiculous, I live in a mostly still traditional Asia country mind you but most people my age now think that dating anyone 3 years younger or more than you is weird. The ones who can accept it are mostly older people and traditionally minded young people (which is a minority)

It's all mostly caused by modern schooling in my opinion in the sense that most people can't and won't learn cross generation socialization as intensively like in the past before they have a job because of age segregation in school and lack of needs/circumstances. Even your kouhai in university or whatever is at most 3 years younger than you

People my age said "What's the point to hangout with people of various age?" or "How the fuck do you find much younger girls to hangout with in the first place?". Well, the easiest way is you can always start by hanging out with older people and they always have kids of various age, next you can just get to know them. But apparently this kind of mindset is thought as weird now. But if we think about it, modern schooling does remove the social necessity to hangout with older people in a lot of ways so that's the main root for today's mindset that marrying young girls is bad
