the primary complaint i've heard about dedicated comedy isekai like konosuba (which mind you i never actually read) is that even if they start off as being rollicking comedies they eventually run out of steam and graduate to being proper isekai

i'd tentatively guess it's because once people start getting attached to characters, they want to see them develop rather than remaining one-dimensional caricatures, and without a real narrative or crisis that can't happen and so eventually the universe has to go that way

tragic really

It turns out most readers don't care a single bit about story structure nor craft, and are perfectly okay with reading what's basically video game self-insert fanfiction. The protagonist's advanced wisdom (Japanese competitive school system) and crazy work ethic (black companies) makes the reader feel validated for being Japanese. Like ethno-nationalism, it appeals to the most pathetic and vulnerable among us, and tells us that we're better than other people, even if we're just some depressed shut-in who plays video games and maintains a cum jar.

I've been looking for something else to read. I recently got around to finishing reading Kino 21. I was behind on releases (or so I thought) so I went over to honto.jp to pick up the rest but it looks like nothing has been released since 21. Enjoyed the chapter about Master's past.

Looks like some are mentioning Majo to Tabitabi and it's similar to Kino. Other than it being the same feel can anyone else comment on it? Looks like there's 9 volumes so far so that can last me a bit.

Anyone reading Hibike? I believe it's not categorized as an LN but I guess novels are OK too.
