Well anons, after several years of waiting, I managed to finish Mahoyo in French!

Needless to say it's really fucking good, some of Nasu's strongest writing to this day, especially when it comes to great characterization (not just for the main trio and villain, but side characters too), and in my opinion the most interesting and blood-pumping action scenes in any of his works.
Regarding technical aspects like the visuals, animations, music, sound design, etc... all I can say is that, now that I've experienced them for myself, it pisses me off even more that people are "okay" with the tremendous, effortless downgrade that is FGO.

Anyway, the best compliment I can give Mahoyo is that it FEELS like an old Nasu work through and through - the writing, the setting, the way characters and fights are handled - but without being devoid of creativity. It just feels like a brand new story that the Nasu from 20 years ago would've written (which is no surprise, since the original idea is from the 90s).
I'm already feeling that slight depression that follows the end of a truly great VN, I can't stop thinking about it and listening to the OST. It's easily a 9/10, and I can only imagine how amazing the sequels could be. Or the Tsukihime Remake, with this level of technical mastery and writing. But even if none of those ever come, I'm glad I got to experience this. All we can do is have hope for the future.

No, you don't get what I'm saying. Voice acting any story is dreadful work. If you watch the behind-the-scenes interviews with the staff of New Vegas, for instance, they had numerous lines that they wanted to edit, but couldn't, because they had already done the voice work for the title, and the voice actors were booked and couldn't come back in, or it would be too expensive to do so. Now, yes, Mahoyo wasn't a title running under deadlines and so on, but the same principle applies. Writing a story without voice acting is not only cheaper, but also easier and more smart. Nasu pushed off finishing Mahoyo a few different times, and then Koyama's own delays came in later. Coordinating voice acting with Nasu and TM would probably be hell back in those days, and it was likely deemed not worth the effort. It's smart business, I.e. being a cheapass, and then they went even more cheapass by selling it for full price even though it was short as well. If it did get voice acting I bet it probably would have got pushed off for another year.

Dunno. Just that i enjoy those new lore stuff about Chaldea, and it felt like this collab is Da Vinci's death anniversary event. I like the part when Mnemosyne talking with small Da Vinci: she realized she was wrong and remembered what big Da Vinci (aka her "mom") told her before.
