i'd like some information- i downloaded a CLANNAD patch a couple months back that translated the text of the game, but the menus and buttons and shit were still all incomprehensible moon. Because of that I couldn't configure the game to run properly. Is there an updated patch i can use?

there are plenty of games that doesn't fit into the definition. those that do are VNs.

Sengoku Rance and everything by Softhouse Chara (I've only played the dragon and wizard games, but extrapolating here) contains enough VN elements to be classified a VN. (with the broad definition)

Rather than using 'VN' to refer to the 'old' definition, use NVL, because NVL doesn't cause the same amount of confusion.

A game is a VN if the VN part is the primary focus of the game and there are either no or only minor gameplay elements. games that have major gameplay elements like Sengoku, etc, are not VNs.
