Kaga didn't require that much to sink, it was just the pilots at midway having too many planes diving on Kaga because of a communications fuck up. Hence Kaga was hit buy 5 bombs while Akagi was dived on by 3 planes with 1 hit and 1 near miss that damaged her steering.
Also it technically didn't sink her, though damaging a ship to the point where scuttling is the only option for it is as good as sinking her.
