Starting tomorrow i would like to try and learn Japanese in 1 week, I'm not expecting that i will be able to Speak fluently but adleast to know a fair amount of words and sentences.

To make this easier for me I will be focusing only on speaking and not writing.

Now the reason I want to try this challenge is because I saw a youtuber attempting to learn Italian in 7 days.

I would have done Italian if I didn't already know Italian. So anyway I was always fascinated with Japanese culture and thought that it would be a good language to learn.

Now this is post is for me to ask for help.

1.how many tenses exist in Japanese?

2.could I have a list of the 2000 most used Japanese words/sentences(I wasn't able to find this myself)

3.is duoling worth it?

I recently watched 'soshite chichi ni naru' and 'our little sister' by kore-ed, and I just became a fan of his works. I'm planning to watch 'aruitemo aruitemo' (still walking), but I can't find the Japanese subtitles anywhere. I've looked everywhere including assrt.net, avistaz , but still no luck. If anyone have the subs or know any site, please help. Thanks.

I attempted to learn Japanese some years back and gave up. I went through the entirety of Heisig 1, and learned to write every kanji in the book. But when I started working on vocabulary, I found that I had a hard time distinguishing them. It was like being able to write them wasn't necessarily enough for me to be able to identify them on site. I realized I should have learned it the other way around, just learning to recognize them, or rather study that in addition to learning to write them. This was extremely discouraging and I gave up. I think I'm going to start again, though. Thanks for reading my blog.

dude i have no fucking idea why you keep insisting on this. what even sense does it make to say that you can do something EXCEPT you need practice? THAT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE. and it's not "a bit of practice" - you have to expose yourself to the kanji many times while reading. i would know. that's what it was like for me. instead of saying RTK allows you to instantly recognize all kanji why not say "it helps"?

The problem with RTK is that it only teaches you to recall Kanji based on English keywords. The result is that you do end up being able to write some things, but you can't do anything valuable with that limited writing ability and certainly can't write Japanese prose. Note how there has never been an RTK retard that passed Kanken despite unending claims about being able to write.

Here comes my method. It has some elements which would not strictly not be required (I will explain shortly) but it is definitely the best way to learn to write. The important thing is doing this after you have learned to read. What I do to prepare for a kanken level is take all relevant Kanji and readings and figure out the optimal way to cover the maximum amount of information in as little cards as possible (I made up a system for this so it's not as tedious as it sounds). Now I use my Anime cards to create reverse writing cards covering all the previously gathered information using the sentences with the writing relevant part being kanafied. Here is an example of such cards:

https://streamable.com/k9enc

The optional element obviously being all the voiced anime stuff, but I add it because it makes reviews fun and I want to enjoy doing this shit.

Now don't you think this is where I stop. I use the Kanken Training 2 game to simulate real tests and add all the information that I didn't get to the deck until I get a perfect score in the simulation. That way I GUARANTEE that I have attained mastery over a kanken level upon which I move on to the next one.

RTKtards probably won't appreciate this. They are simple minded fools that can do no more than follow the most simple of instructions. I spit on you.

nice straw man you've erected there. it's possible to listen to something and be honest about whether or not you're actually hearin it properly, otherwise how could you transcribe? you're just doing meaningless busy work and limiting the amount of Japanese your brain has to process (the actual important thing here)

>> No.21200301

Transcribing will not just help writing skills. It will also help your listening comprehension skills because it's essentially training you to identify word boundaries clearly.

Listening and reading is a lot more passive and, IMO, won't have the same impact on comprehension.

Just as the act of actively recalling a word will strengthen the memory more than passive recognition of it, forcing yourself to struggle with a short piece of audio and pick it apart is going to make you better at parsing speech in the target language than passive listening + reading.

I was struggling for a while to figure out how to differentiate between how to use these two, but couldn't get one single answer from looking around.
One site says 使用 is to use something for its intended purpose (a shoe to walk in) while 利用 is to use something other than its intended purpose (using that shoe to smack someone)

Another site says 使用 is used to just "use" something, like using a fork to eat something whereas 利用 is to use a specific factor or attribute of something, like using the prongs of said fork to pick up the food.

you're just talking out your ass is my issue. you have no idea whether or not the transcription shit is actually doing anything because you have no way to verify it. you're listening to an episode of anime you've never heard before, writing a minutes worth of script isn't going to increase your japanese ability anymore than just paying attention to what you're listening to. you can either hear something and hear which words are said and know those words or you don't. writing shit doesn't magically make you know more Japanese and "significantly improve" your listening ability. you would just like to think that because otherwise you'd have to admit to yourself that you are a) retarded for coming up with such a pointless thing and b) wastin your time doing it

there's no possible way that what you're doing actually has any effect on your listening comprehension beyond just paying attention when you're listening

it's not something you have to figure out if you actually can read japanese. you cant read a sentence and then get to the verb and be confused if it's "do" or "go" unless you didn't understand a single part that came before it lol

another strawman. writing down shit isn't gonna help you hear it any more than just listening intently and being honest with yourself. i can see why that's difficult though because you can't even be honest with yourself about your own shit methods

the reasoning behind the effectiveness of transcription isn't even complex or revolutionary its purely repetition reproduction and feedback?? what is there to even argue about i think some people just live for conflict

besides the fact that its visual confirmation of what you got right or wrong, typing japanese quickly is a skill you want to have anyway. 一石二鳥 if you're too lazy to do 1 minute worth of typing you're not gonna make it at all
