Anyway Vocaloid is just a voce synthesizer software, the Vocaloid platform itself is developed by Yamaha and other big companies use it to make their own voicebanks.They record syllables of a person's voice and manipulate it to make a voicebank which they release, and people can then buy the voicebank and make them sing whatever.

The biggest company is Crypton, who figured out you can sell the voicebanks much more easily by attaching cute characters onto them in order to serve as their image or avatar of sorts. In 2007 they released Hatsune Miku, their biggest cash cow, along with Rin and Len Kagamine a few months later which are still popular to this day as well. They have other vocaloids, and there are other vocaloids released by other companies which are popular as well at this point.

There are a few Vocaloid games, Crypton worked with Sega for the Project Diva rhythm games on Sony systems for example. All songs are 'fanmade' and so is the art apart from the official designs.

VocaDB is a huge song wiki, just go there and sort by score and you'll find the classics. Once you find the kind of stuff you like you can use the tags to filter for specific vocaloids or musical genres or just go straight to the producer's page to see all their songs.

There are also some compilation albums, and albums with songs from the games or the live concerts, and of course there are videos of the live concerts as well you can find on YouTube and NND. Also, look in the pastebin at the top of the thread.

I think people who say this are complaining about two major categories of changes to video games. First, what mainstream audiences and rising budgets have done to top-selling games. Second, what ubiquitous Internet connectivity has enabled: DLC, always-online, gacha, no LAN multiplayer, servers that die several years after the release without a replacement, etc.

The second category is pretty self-explanatory. The first means the things that came naturally from the technological advancement in game hardware. More visual fidelity meant more people had to work on a game for longer, which meant the game had to sell more copies, which meant it had to be marketed to a broader audience. All of this changed the product itself. Video game settings and plots got less weird and more acceptable. The vocabulary of mechanics got more rigid and less experimental. The whole medium started to borrow more and more from cinema. When you resent these changes, it is natural to look to the past when cinematic games were either impossible or a technological feat in and of themselves and see it as a golden age.

I think they are basically right about both. AAA gaming was at its most interesting over a decade ago. But now fidelity has started to level out. Tools are coming out that allow indie/doujin/small developers to do more with less. The future is looking bright -- for them.

Another thing is that that guy was talking about the golden age of Sega specifically. You can reject all of the above and still think that Sega is past its prime.

The music, the tuning, the lyrics, the art, it's all amazing. One of the most impressive Vocaloid works I've seen. It really shows how much passion the team has.

question to EOPs, how much weight do song lyrics have in how much you like/dislike a song or producer? I'm still pretty new to vocaloid music and so far I've only been listening to it while browsing 4chan and working on my project, I've looked up translation of 2 songs maybe so so far I've been adding them to favorites purely based on sound as if vocaloids were instruments rather than voice synthesizers.
