Ok, I'm posting it here again.
Hopefully people will get it to run.
This is an mpv plugin, which stream your subs to your webbrowser. This way you can look up shit while watching Japanese subbed stuff.
https://github.com/kaervin/subserv-mpv-plugin

Now I made a release version, which is basically already compiled.
https://github.com/kaervin/subserv-mpv-plugin/releases/download/release/subserv.so
This should work if you are running linux and your mpv isn't too old.
Just put it into your mpv scripts directory, then while watching your anime visit 127.0.0.1:8080 in your browser, and it should add the subs that appear in the video.

keyboard > graphical buttons

it's just a matter of remembering which key does what, and once you do it's way quicker and more convenient. if you really, really can't deal with that and have to use your mouse for some reason though, i'm pretty sure there are graphical frontends out there for mpv.

Core 2k/6k has a bunch of super ultra common words like 気分, 任せる, and 付き合う buried past the first 2000 words instead of in the first few hundred.

It's also outright missing some extremely common words like 以外, 感触, and 視線.

These are all words that anyone who uses Japanese is going to encounter pretty much constantly. They're probably top-thousand words in almost anything you could look at, and they're just random examples.

Core 2k/6k also has a bunch of words that probably shouldn't be in a shared deck since you'd want to drop shared decks and start mining before you have to deal with them, like 蛋白質, ワープロ, 猿, 大蔵省, etc.

The version of core 2k/6k that people use also starts out really, really bad. It starts out with a bunch of numbers and then the days of the week. That's just bad.

Core 2k/6k does, of course, mostly overlap with any frequency deck you can think of, because it does indeed mostly contain common words, and it's only missing a few percent of what it should contain. Easy to pick up naturally, not a big deal.

But that's not the whole picture.

The strength of a shared deck is in how quickly it brings you up to speed so you can start mining. When you say "but you're supposed to finish the deck!", that's just dumb.

Your reading will be much better than your listening. But before you started reading you could neither read nor listen so how should your listening be worse after you can now read?

The only thing that can happen is that you get overreliant on subtitles for a lot of stuff and will default to them if theyre available. But there's an easy fix for this. Just switch them off when you're practicing listening.

My review stats after finishing up. I don't know if 33 hours is considered high for 1250 cards, but that also includes the time of me writing out enough of the vocab words to fill 20 double-sided pages. Approximately 4 cards ended up being leeches but I lie to Anki and don't let them get buried.

The VN Core deck consisted of 810 unique Kanji, which I have created a custom set for in the Kanji Study app. Fun fact: 24 N5 Kanji and 50 N4 Kanji are not seen once in the VN Core.

Next thing I am going to do is go through the Mary/Takeshi conversations plus grammar explanations of Genki 1/2 while doing daily reviews in Anki/Kanji Study. Then I will watch Your Lie in April without subs, and finally I will go read White Album 2 and look up grammar in DoJG as I go as well as creating a mining deck.

You just showed in the video it takes 18 seconds. Why do you tell such blatant lies?

Other things:
1. This is with a simple word which only has one definition. He isn't showing a multi-definition word, which would take him longer.
2. He doesn't show himself inserting a custom tip like he puts on his other cards.
3. This is him rushing on video to make himself look as fast as possible, and he still couldn't hit the 15 seconds he claimed. Under normal conditions when he's not trying to show off he's without a doubt slower, especially once you factor in all the mistakes he no doubt makes and has to correct (which doubtless increas in frequency as the fatigue sets in from making so many cards in such a tedious process).

Turn your trip back on and stop pretending to be a lowercase poster. It's pathetic.

The key is, like was the answer to an earlier complaint about kanji stroke order, learning to "dissect" kanji into their constituent parts. Kanji are generally one of two things: A basic set of strokes that is often used as a radical in other characters, or a more complex character that itself has a radical and a non-radical component.

Often the non-radical component of the more complex character is itself a complex character. This is a huge issue in Chinese, and I assume in the more advanced or obscure kanji sets as well. But, by recognizing that those characters can be recursively disassembled into radicals and non-radical parts, you can eventually disassemble an entire character into a collection of radicals (and the occasional sets of strokes that are never used as radicals but are basic stroke sets).

Another way you boost your ability to differentiate is by looking to contextual clues, and that requires you to get good at comprehension rather than pure character recognition. At least with standard speech where the writer isn't trying to trip you up with weird kanji, you can often tell you misread a character, such as by the part of speech the underlying word usually serves, or the other kanji or inflection that typically appears around that word.

it's not so much remembering, but the sheer amount of time it takes to review.
If you do 100 cards a day, you'll have an average of 350 reviews a day if you study the deck for 70 days. That's 70 days you're in rtk hell. For like a week you'll have 700 reviews. at 20 seconds per review that's like 4 hours anki.
That's assuming your retention is 85%, if you have less retention your reviews are going to be much worse.

Can anyone help me make sense of this sentence?
部屋の荷物を捨ててみると、部屋のあちこちに時間が止まってた場所があって
ゴミ袋がびっくりするくらい積みあがりました。

Basically what I think I get is that the person looked into throwing out the rooms stuff,
the 'time stopped' in some places here and there in the room,
the trashbags were surprising in the way they were piling up.

For example, What I don't really get is what the くらい is doing there

There's no way those numbers are correct. I did RTK in 60 days and my reviews never got higher than 225. There's no way you'll reach an average of 350 over 70 days unless your retention is garbage.
If retention rate is unaffected your average shouldn't change over the long term. You'll just front load most of those over those first three weeks.

good luck lmao, you're gonna need it

i did rtk1 in 42 days, i'm on rtk3 right now

i started with about 40 a day, moved to 50 after a few days, ended up with 63 a day for the last 10 days, so about 52 kanji a day on average

granted i did core2k simultaneously for the first 25 days (i finished it in 25 days), but now after almost 20 days of reviewing it, it's only taking 3-5 minutes to do the daily core2k reps

are you doing it the proper way, i.e. going from keyword and writing down the kanji for each rep?

In real life, numbers are very important so you know how to buy 2 apples instead of 10.
In our context when reading LNs, manga and VNs, numbers aren't important at all, they are just flavour.

For example in a sentence like "General, five enemy mechas closing in fast" every word has higher priority than the word "five". It makes almost no difference if it's 3, 5 of 10, all you need to know is that you will need to fight multiple enemies. The other words, however, are far more important so that you know who is being addressed, what's happening, etc.

So yes, a custom deck where things like numbers, months, days of the week and so on are at the end of the several thousands of cards would be optimal for us.
