A little history lesson here:

Hourai was a Japanese reference to a mountain ( which called "Peng Lai" in the Chinese historical text "Qin Shi Huang Bongdi") on an island in the eastern sea.

The inhabitans of the island was believed to have/produced/perfected a drug which grants immortality to whoever consume it.

However, the Hourai doll has no relation to the legend at all.
