the meaning part uses recognition after you’ve recalled the definition. i have to note here that this method works best when learning from context, for reasons that will be clear soon.

the first thing to do once the new word is encountered, is deciding which definition, out of the multiple that the word has, fits the context you saw it in.

pinpoint that one, specific definition. everytime you review, it goes like this:

1. recall reading
2. flip card
3. pinpoint THE definition you chose (recognition)
4. say the reading again while looking at that definition.

that’s it. reviews take a fraction of the energy yet have all the gains because smart recognition (steps 3 and 4) causes the meaning to infuse into your subconscious. soon you will notice the definition popping into your head as soon as you’ve recalled the reading even though you didn’t make conscious effort to remember the definition.

way more cards can get done this way in less time and with less mental drain. which leaves lots of time and energy for more reading, where you can solidify words you’ve learned even more.

lastly, delete words once you’ve seen them in context again (and successfully recalled) at 2 weeks after adding it. and delete any words after it’s next interval reaches 2 months. reading will nurse that word to maturity. you’re welcome!

At what point do sentences become easy to understand? I'm currently ~N4/N3. I'm going through an NHK Easy article and I could understand the meaning of every word, but still not understand what they're trying to say in a natural way due to the placement of particles/combination of sentences.

Is this lack of grammar knowledge or just how i'm processing the information as I read it? I feel like i'm constantly trying to understand the meaning of an English quadruple negative sentence, tracing things back and forth until I get to the intended meaning. I'm trying not to convert it to English first to understand it and i'm sure the explanation of "just read it in Japanese" is the correct answer but at what point did that not become so difficult?
