I got a pretty nice living crossbow. Took a couple material kits to get a decent roll on its stats, and upped it to +15, so that's great.

Now if I'm reading the changelog/wikia right, as of +1.67 the choices on levelup are static, cycling through the lists as months change.
And it seems to reset to the initial roll after levelup. So if I want multiple of something that takes 11 months to cycle through and reach it will probably take 11 months each time. Right?
But then my mace's list of options changed after 2 days into a month, right after changing at the turn of the month.
So is it not monthly anymore, or is there some other trigger?
I've just been dungeon crawling a little, checking shops, and reading spellbooks, nothing much else.

Also, it doesn't seem drain MP/SP are on the list of things living weapons can get anymore, as of 1.67. Can anyone verify or correct that?
I really wanted drain SP, honestly.

>> No.20980994

>>20980815
If you're good enough at killing stuff, you can get multiple levels in a month.
And drain SP sucks. It only drains a tiny fixed amount, like 1d3 SP or something.

>And it seems to reset to the initial roll after levelup. So if I want multiple of something that takes 11 months to cycle through and reach it will probably take 11 months each time. Right?
No. You can roll the same thing as long as you're within the same month. If you're in the month and there's something you want, you can effectively try to level up as many times as you want.

>But then my mace's list of options changed after 2 days into a month, right after changing at the turn of the month.
There is a chance that this happens due to version shifts, updates, and maybe a bug. Generally speaking the change occurs on the month. There *may* be a chance that it's updating with a major world shift, but unlikely.

>Also, it doesn't seem drain MP/SP are on the list of things living weapons can get anymore, as of 1.67. Can anyone verify or correct that?
The full list is still on the wikia. Drain MP/Stamina has not been in the active list for a very long time. Living weapons do have rank 99 enchants that can be added, and because it is possible for a living weapon to have a rank 99 on generation, it should be possible for a farmer build to eventually get a living weapon with drain MP/stamina, but it is entirely luck dependent.

Yeah I can get multiple levels in a day even. That's pretty easy.
But it seems to reset to the initial roll for options whenever levelling up.
>And drain SP sucks. It only drains a tiny fixed amount, like 1d3 SP or something.
Well that could at least fully sustain special ammo, but that's not really a problem. Guess I'll focus on pierce and crit then.
>>20980995
>If you're in the month and there's something you want, you can effectively try to level up as many times as you want.
That's what I was hoping for given the monthly change thing.
But it was kind of wonky. Like my mace started with the option for chaos resistance/damage. So I waited until the next month for magic resistance and selected that levelup. Then on the next level within the day the option was for chaos again.
Then actually, I just noticed it skipped magic straight into fire, on the second day of the next month. That's weirder.
>major world shift
Didn't have any of those during that short time, so that's not it at least.
>>20980995
>Living weapons do have rank 99 enchants that can be added
Like, on levelup there is a random chance for them to be added as well? Rather than in the selectable list?
Or is it an "on creation" thing only?
I probably won't worry about it if drains are so low they're somewhat negligible. Just curious now.

Sadly it's not all good. If you don't go with a monospaced font then the kerning is quite fucked in many areas, like the info/guide pages and sometimes the chatlog. Still readable, just awkward as heck.
Having so much else be more readable, like all of the main center windows including equipment, shops, and whatnot, is worth that to me.
But if you can't tolerate it, or don't even like proportional fonts, then other monospaced fonts work well too.

You can technically play with arrow keys. To guarantee diagonals when you want those specifically just hold the alt key while pressing directions. That's easier than timing up and left together to go upper left, for example.
*, /, -, +, and enter still work from the non-numpad keys. And [g] can be used instead of 0 for pickup.
The only one I'm not sure of is wait. You have [R] for resting 10 turns, but I don't know about the single turn wait on the main board.

You could also hypothetically play with a controller.
Or a dedicated USB numpad. Or full keyboard.

Any build can "work" (elosnack makes living weapon testing very easy since you can manually control levels - this was how we used to perform weapon checks to make things like L30+ livings back in Vanilla). Minmax optimization tends to be considered for extreme late game, so depending on how far you go (after a point you might not even be using the living weapon for damage anymore), whether you want to use dedicated focus is up to you. There is fall off that factors in to stacking, but that's the same for all living weapon enchants.

Ranged weapons are weapons of convenience. They effectively don't excel at anything, assuming equal investment. You won't have a problem running ranged weapons all the way up to the end of Act III (and a while past) but typically when people talk about minmaxing, they're going from the perspective of ultra late game (the capped range where everything you're fighting is at capped stats).

Never played this shit before, what do I download. The Elona+ or what? How does the Custom G fit in to this?

>> No.20996794

>>20996738
Custom G is an edit for Custom which is an edit for Elona+.
Custom has a lot of nice changes and tweaks as well as translating and enabling the story for English (cutscenes are normally dummied out in English), however it's not being updated anymore beyond making it work with new versions of the game.
Custom-G continues actual changes from where Custom left off and reverts several contentious parts of the latest E+ updates. It also translates more material, so everything in the game has at least a machine translation.

There's really no reason to not use Custom if you're using E+. Custom-G is up to you really but it seems to be the prevailing choice.
So to install E+ with Custom-G you'd download Elona+, then Custom for that version and unpack it, then Custom-G for that Custom and unpack it. If you don't want Custom-G just skip the last step.

There's also Elona Omake and Omake Overhaul, which is a completely different fork of Elona than E+ and unrelated to the Customs.

>> No.20996800

>>20996738
The original Vanilla Elona is long dead. Some people prefer it for whatever reason.

Elona+ is the most popular fork/continuance.
Elona Custom is a mod of that, which adds a custom AI and helps translate some things at least. The most clearly English release there is.
Elona Custom-G is a mod of that mod, which reverts a lot of changes in more recent versions of Elona+ that people disagree with, such as hydration (Piss fetishism mostly). As well as nuking SP costs for actions that don't really need balanced by them such as cooking and fishing, so you don't have to deal with extra skillrestskillrest tedium there. It also bare minimum machine translates all untranslated text, rather than leaving placeholders. (Though I'd personally rather have that display raw I guess that's more difficult)
If you want all of that then you have to install all 3 on top of each other. Meaning get Elona+ and extract it, then get Elona+C and extract that into Elona+'s folder, then get Elona+CG and extract that into the same folder, replacing things as necessary.
If you don't want G's changes, for whatever reason, then just ignore that part.

Actually, I'd say that makes them a decent alternative to Gifts. Once something's at Friend, you can use a couple Tokens of Friendship to reach Fellow, and then just use Lovely Bouquets to get to Soulmate.
Although that's mostly for NPCs you want to use an Astral Light Pen on, or to progress the artifact fusion quest. Just killing stuff is generally enough to make a pet like you.

>> No.21004365

Going by this picture, your current logic loop runs
a) if the target's distance is 1, the pet will melee.
b) As long as the target is at a distance greater than or equal to 6, the pet will close distance.
c) If the target's distance is less than or equal to 5, it'll attempt a ranged attack.

The error message only shows up if the logic loop runs into a statement where the condition is met but the action cannot be executed properly (so if the statement just doesn't resolve, it's generally skipped). Ranged attacks generally speaking don't fall under this circumstance (Particularly in your situation, since the original error message for ranged attacks was due ot the 5 range limitation, which doesn't apply in your logic case).

Typically because of the way command priority works, your melee attack should always be the last priority command (it's effectively the "default" logic state.) There are then a couple reasons as to why your AI isn't running to command 3.

a) Visibility issues makes it so that by the time your pet even targets the enemy, they prioritize command 1 over command 3. This is particularly finnicky in some dungeons with multiple targets.
b) The pet AI is actually attempting to resolve command 1 over and over again, either due to bad targetting, or just a bug. Generally since your command 1 is the default safety net melee command, people don't encounter that issue since it's the last command in terms of priority and not the first.
c) The target's distance isn't registering properly, so command 2 is constantly overriding command 3 (with command 1 firing off the moment they get in range)

The only real way to start narrowing this down is by doing individual loops, structuring the lines one by one and seeing which of the cases you can remove. Start with the default attack (ranged) command with a global filter, then add in the range limitation movement qualifier, then finally add in the safety net, and see where along the line the AI stops resolving properly.

There is no real fix if visibility is the issue, but generally speaking while visibility can be a pain in the ass, it shouldn't be a major problem, especially when your logic loop is as simple as it is.

Since that mod is all about undoing stupid changes, is there any way you could undo the rare item rate changes when anti-save-scumming is toggled off in Tweaks? Like quadrupling drop rates. Things like happy bed and that one Unknown prayer necklace are just way, way too common now. In an attempt to make the things people normally would savescum for less desirable to savescum for, apparently.

There's one fork that does revert that change, but does so much else that's fucking retarded because the developer is a genuine fucking nutcase, so I don't want to use that or even name it. Not to mention it's still on 1.76.

I'm not at a point in the game where I can freely craft tokens of friendship yet. I'm in the early game of my first playthrough and kind of fell into a pet-heavy playstyle. Maybe I'm being too impatient with the relationship progression. I'm only letting my 3 pets below fellow fight, and I've been through 2 dungeons and ~10 floors of Lesimas and barely seen any movement. It just seems weird to me that the last hump before you can do everything with pets but marry them (from friend to fellow) is the only one where none of the shortcuts work. I know there's a balance argument to be made re:astral light pen and buying adventurers, but for pets it would be nice if there was a way other than engagement jewelery to quickly get them to evolvable relationship. I guess I'm just bitching now, it's really not a big deal. I just really want to use this last evolution heart I've been sitting on.

But I'm not sure everyone would like that change. I'm actually kind of split on this. Like, they're not absolutely required items, but they are nice to have. Relying on harder RNG for them most of the time just makes getting them take longer, it's not any actual difficulty. Having them far more common skips some of the early game grind of slowly upgrading items, but you don't need them at all so having them passively with some luck is fine too.
>>21004853
That would be fine with me at least, yeah.
Ideally I'd like absolutely every -G change to be a toggle in Tweaks or something so that I could fully recommend it even to those who like some new changes/nerfs. As well as being able to toggle on/off thirst for some fetish play, which again would make it more recommendable to some specific people.

And GDATA_FLAG 347=0 just reverts the changes to the drop rates? They had that as a variable rather than going through and changing all drop rates to match up with the new system? That's nifty.

>> No.21004895

>>21004871
>GDATA_FLAG 347=0 just reverts the changes to the drop rates?
No, that's not the case. Those items only drop ever if that global variable is set to 100. Changing the drop rate to the original value would require checking an old version's source for it and then using different probabilities based on whether or not the savescum tweak was enabled. It's not as simple as just preventing that flag from turning on.

>> No.21004911

Probably the best quick-fix would be to just edit the drop rates to your liking. Search the code for "if ( gdata(STARTING_GDATA_FLAG + 347) == 100 ) {". That'll take you to each rare drop. For example, the first one is the chance for a beggar to drop the Beggar's Pendant, 1 in 15. If you want to get 1/4 as many, you could change the line above it from "if ( rnd(15) == 0 ) {" to "if ( rnd(60) == 0 ) {".

And the beggar's pendant is 1/15? I've killed about 200 beggars since updating to 1.87 and still haven't gotten it. WITH anti-savescumming turned off so I could use F1 to save. Lich's racials are resistance related. Resistances aren't bad, but generally speaking they aren't going to substantially change the game (i.e. you won't notice them much). This is especially true for the Lich's Cold/Poison/Darkness resistance, because the first two are weak and generally speaking there are only 1 - 2 enemy types that are dangerous when using these in the opening phase. Unless you're rushing, generally speaking you can control the risk of engaging them before you even meet them (with equipment).

E+ Lichs adds Nether resistance and Nerve resistance. The former is noticeable but again it's not a game changer. The fire weakness however can be an annoyance (because there's a mandatory dungeon that spams fire). All in all Liches aren't bad, the resistances can come in handy, but they're really more of a flavour race than a utility race.

Elea on the other hand have better racials for general purpose usage (noticeable early on) since Ether Disease is something that's going to be a constant presence throughout the game, and early on you might not have the speed or tools to negate it, so slowing it down can be helpful. The Magic Reaction racial can come in handy as well.

Realistically the life difference and mana difference isn't substantial enough to make a difference (especially at lower levels when the multiplier isn't very substantial), but having more life is generally preferable to having more mana early on. The spells you gain early on aren't very mana intensive to begin with, you generally won't gain much grinding spells so extensively that the mana difference will become critical, and you won't get Barrier anytime early so that won't be a factor either.

The starting skills aren't too crucial for either Elea or Lichs, though Lichs are more forgiving for caster types in this regard. This is more important in Vanilla/Omake variants than E+, since E+ lets you gain skills really easily.

My first playthrough for my gene seed was a gunner/magic device hybrid + pets.

The progression gets ridiculous when you obtain specialized ammo like timestop bullets, and the magic rod/potions let you handle wierd combat situations.
But generally you'll be feeling dumb every time you pass up an amazing melee weapon, or end up with rare spellbooks you can't really use.
Also be aware that there are some spells with no rod alternatives, namely weakness (lowers physical defences) and nightmare/elemental scar (lowers element/debuff defences). Those only come in potion form. Yes, its as troublesome you think it sounds.

I suggest actually going for utility spells instead and just hanging on to some powerful rods as your "grenades".
A pure gunner build sounds more like a challenge run, considering all the out-of-combat situations you'd wish you had magic for. (carrying weights, dimension pockets, teleporting around, recalling home, healing stamina etc).

Party Time Quests are the normal path to stardust farming because of the ease of accessibility, and by Act III typically speaking you'll always get one piece of Stardust unless you're particularly unlucky. If you're very early on, then you can technically just stick to grinding Puppy Cave or Farming quests instead, but this is significantly slower because Hermit Crabs don't spawn regularly. Technically, making a Ranch with a Hermit Crab is viable, but it does take time to initially build up the Ranch.

Reset Looping is the quickest way of farming Stardust. Tower of Fire guarantees two drops, and results in about 2 stardust/30 seconds or so. If you're also faith grinding, Tower of Fire will pretty much max out your prayer gauge at the same time. If Tower of Fire is somehow too difficult for you to loop, technically you could loop the Ancient Castle instead (Tower of Fire's most accessible warp point is Little Sister House whereas Ancient Castle is the South Tyris gatehouse, so the latter is slightly easier to get to.)

If you're doing Party Time for Stardust, you do not want to actually finish the quest, because it's a waste of time. To optimal cycle Party Time you either run in, check the Oracle log, kill the NPC and leave, or if there's no artifact you just leave and move on to the next quest. (In Act 1 this can be particularly inefficient because some NPCs can spawn that will just destroy you outright, but Act 1 Party Time isn't worthwhile for anything to begin with since Performer is easier to grind elsewhere, and Music Ticket farming requires a lot more set up than what initial Act 1 will allow.)

That's because you probably haven't done a proper rotation. I don't know if the guides mention it, but to begin with, you never invest into magic shops. Before you start investing into them, you run a round to every town and invest into every shop other than the magic stores, while maintaining your investment skill at cap potential.

By the end of 2 - 3 rotations, you should easily be able to push all of the magic shops past 100 pretty easily. The initial money return from your food shops go towards funding this loop.

I'd go with black markets first honestly, its worth it just for the chance at getting a living weapon. As for when to start investing? When ever you can afford to keep your charisma potential high and investing skill at 400%. Your investing skill will be low until you use it unless you have high travelling or you use your skill points on it, frankly theres better things to use your skill points on.

>> No.21020100

You invest into literally everything until you can get to the first 50 invest. Then you start 50 investing into everything. When the shop levels are low, the cost is low, hence why you hit as many shops that are low level as possible to get your investment skill up (while keeping the eventual cost for the 50 invest into the magic shops low). By the time you get into the 70+ range for investment it shouldn't be that difficult to hit 150+ for the magic shops, but generally I wouldn't start investing into magic shops until you're either past 100 investing, or you have enough cash that you can just dump money into magic shops nonstop.

If you need a specific priority order,
General Vendors are useful for grabbing some of the more esoteric items (cheap gifts, xmas cake sets, valentine chocolate, transfer deeds, specific furniture).
Early on before you can reliably create Living Weapons en masse via Artifact Creation, Black Markets are the only semi-consistent place to find one, but they fall off extremely fast once you do get Artifact Creation.
Food Vendors are nice for some of the more esoteric food items like tofu and whatnot if you don't have any set up to get them reliably.
Bakers are nice since Bread stacks the easiest out of all food, but that's more important for Omake than it is for E+. Souvenir Shops are the easiest source of Material Kits.
Goods Vendors are generally for Flying Scrolls, but with equipment weight reduction being a Blacksmith thing too eventually Flying Scrolls is just for things like 0.1 weight furnaces, pianos and whatnot.
Armor Shop is a nice place to find equipment base but that benefits an Inherit Base character more than a normal run.

Unless he times it specifically to match, it's not worthwhile waiting. Even with a low speed build, it doesn't take very long to do a one cycle using Tyris Border -> Derphy -> Port Kapul -> Vernis -> Yowyn -> Palmia. He just needs to accumulate a good amount of gold before the cycle, and enough plat to keep the Investing skill potential high. With a starting fund of around 1 - 2m, it shouldn't be difficult to hit the investing breakpoint, and start the Potential Pot farm cycle.

Travelling to Noyel is too time consuming, and while it could be argued in the case of Larna that it's ultimately beneficial to make the trip (because Larna isn't just a return point, but a secondary transfer hub and also the easiest/most straightforward source of Mat kits/Evo Hearts for Act I runs, whereas Noyel is generally only noteworthy for Stairs, the Well, Last Ditch Karma Fixing, and the Free God Change), waiting on Noyel for the Festival ends up not being particularly worthwhile. (It's also an extra pain if he's trying to farm and spam Xmas Cake Sets, since Noyel is just so far away, and at low speed generally it can burn 2 days just getting there)

After getting the initial cycle and hitting around 100 - 150 investing, generally it isn't an absolute necessity to pump it anymore, since while the cost of 50 invests does go down as investing goes up, it isn't to such a degree where the time and resource investment is worthwhile (particularly once plat costs go up), and it becomes more efficient to just level it off of magic shops alone.

It's primarily for optimizing speedruns where the Magic Shops are ready before Act I is finished. (since realistically it isn't necessary to even set up a shop base before you move into mid Act III, and technically at your level you can beat Act II with specific set ups, and tackle early Act III without much of a problem).

That being said, a fully invested shop base (not just Magic Shops, but literally all shops) generally helps the resource collection process move a lot more smoothly. For Inheritance characters this becomes a more relevant point because Inheritance characters do try to stock up on things like Flying Scrolls, Material Kits, Specific Scrolls (Wonder, Oracle, Contingency, Faith, etc.) and the like, whereas for someone just doing a normal run, there isn't as much of a need to hoard those items.

Generally get storage houses and upgrade your house. Also get things like a freezer, a potion shelf, and bookshelf for your house. Those are cheap, cost nothing more for tax, and help a bunch early on for sure.
But also reconsider a little bit. Chances are the stuff you're hoarding at this point isn't actually valuable for now. Like a bunch of little useless tool duplicates, low quality equipment (Long before artifact making), or definitely in your case, (Non-Unique) statues/cards.

Seeds shouldn't take up much space. I shove them in 4ds so things that eat food from my inventory don't get them. Since there's too many for the cooler and I never need 1step access while starving from neglect like I would with foods I'd eat.
Make a museum for statues/cards so you could get some return on them.
Also get a deck to shove at least one of every card in. There's a quest for that, and collecting them all is pretty neat anyway. Though eventually you'll get enough of those from cardpacks if playing E+.

>The Four Istelles are all later additions, added them on after beating Act III to see how fast a base NPC could be accelerated via Void grinding alone. Black Angel for Ranged DPS (Rainbow test). Cute Fairy for Seed Abuse. Defender as a safety net. Golden Knight is a Guts Wannabe (Dragonslayer)
>Exile follows Black Angel. Main Magic DPS. Turns out Eclipse was really nice. Wanted to see how well I could get mass AoE with capped parties to work, made me realize just how important stats really were to the equation between comparing her and this party to my Monster Tamer character and her Chaos Serpent.
>Stersha is Stersha. Was hoping to test how viable an ALP build could be but it turned out that with the effort needed even with an Inheritance character I was better off just getting a Pokeball. Now I just use her to test out custom talk files. Pity E+ doesn't have all the talk functions that Omake does.
>Spiral King. Easy fall back Magic DPS. Turns out insanity isn't as great as it used to be. I don't run tests with E+C anymore, otherwise I'd probably look into getting her kitted with the new Speech actions in 1.88. But still makes a nice caster combination with the Exile.
>Isca the whore was my shopkeeper of convenience.
I just recently reset the party's levels to see how effective a level 150~ party would be if they were reduced to level 1 in Void 100+ with stats intact (and to see how fast they'd level), but at their current strength the group can beat out a L800 boss (7742/1140 INIT) without that much of an issue. Combat mostly just comes down to spamming Mass Hypnosis for mob control, Doryuu Ranbu to create space, and Healing Rain spam. Dragon Dance is really nice for large teams since it removes chokepoints.
Secondary team I'm planning on finnicking around with eventually on the same Inheritance base is a Lankarta (Ranged DPS)/Fin Crocodile(Not Sure)/Talon Soldier(Not Sure). I really wish I had tried running ALP during the Chaos Child fight on Nagarew though.

Other characters I have running are a Monster Tamer with an Electric Hippo and a Legendary Wolf. Originally I had built her with an Inherited Chaos Serpent and Bubble Dragon...but quickly realized that they both massacred the poor girl too easily with AoE. A fighter pilot character with a Yerles Combat Plane, plays mostly like running with a low speed Bell, but it's fun since every time I play the character I make tweaks to the Combat Plane's speech file and it involves digging through grammar dictionaries and Japanese forums/news sites to see if I'm writing her dialogue naturally. Then an Isekai roleplay character where I tried to build a character according to spec (twin dagger assassin solo build). But with twin revolvers being in E+ now I'm tempted to just reforge the character since my Inheritance Base has a full set of living weapons again. Dunno if I eventually want to change from solo to something else to fit story development for the character, but I came to realize I have way too many monster balls now, and carrying all of them during Inheritance goes over my 700s weight limit. On older E+ versions I have a smaller party (Yith oriented since Spiral King was a godsend) that doesn't use any form of grinding, but he's perpetually stuck in Act 1 just because dungeon diving with low stats and no potential is comfy. Then on Omake I have a test character but she's really only there so I can try and find a goddamn Justice Weapon, and I have a Slime Tamer character because Overhaul's Slime mobs are cute.

>Note that chance for a Big Daddy to spawn on a dungeon level goes down slightly with each little sister killed (6.67% at 0 kills, 2.86% at 10 kills, 1.01% at 42 kills, 0.47% at 100 kills). Turning them in does not affect Big Daddy spawn chance.
So I CAN kill Big Daddies every time I see them and collect as many Little Sisters as I have balls for quest completion without ever reducing spawn chance, right?
I never bothered to do the quest at all due to reading something about it decreasing spawn chance. But it seems I've been missing out a fuckton on duplicating items, by golly.

Because eventually your grind rate is limited by actions and having extra farms stops increasing the effective rate of return. Put in other terms, the grind effectively plateaus out. Hitting the thresholds for consistent regrowth is nowadays really easy, since by Act III the threshold drops significantly, and Amurdad is actually pretty easy to kill even before the end of Act III. Once consistent regrowth is established, the Kumiromi Statues funnel towards more farms instead of simply keeping farms stable. More farms means more actions spent towards managing the farms, which detracts away from the actual choke point regarding powergrinding stats. It effectively means that even though the cost of each Statue is eventually capped, the opportunity cost per Statue continues to increase with each successive Statue (assuming that you're utilizing all of the Herb seeds obtained as a baseline - if you use all of the seeds period, then the opportunity cost skyrockets since the value of the other seeds is variable)

The rate of consumption isn't the problem here, since there are technically ways to force hunger, which means the core focus becomes maintaining potential instead, which Kumiromi Statues isn't going to solve, since merchant accessibility becomes a more significant choke point.

Some builds that frontload the preparation end up foregoing the Little Girl process entirely, since it's entirely possible to hit threshold by Act I, but requires higher levels of Gardening (more grinding) and effectively demands the early game to be nothing but Harvest Time quests with all the plat funnelled back into Gardening until around 100 - 150 Gardening. (Natural threshold is 214, but even around 100 the actual odds of Withering aren't substantial, and typically speaking by that time they're sitting on so many seeds it doesn't even matter anymore). Time efficiency becomes an issue, but if someone is going to grind Harvest Time to get to 100 Gardening then really time is probably the least of their concerns.

Amurdad drops an item called Kumiromi's Scissors. When you harvest a plant while you have the scissors, the threshold for replanting drops significantly, so instead of needing Gardening in the 100s to replant, even at around 50 - 70 Gardening or so you'll be able to replant. This basically cuts down the amount of seeds you'll need.

The original plan was for this to be a god pet horde run with Koukaku no Pandora themed characters, but after some shuffling it ending up being half Pandora and half OG Symphogear.

First pet was Amy, a fire dragon child (now fully evolved) I hunted in Puppy Cave because 220 life is always useful. Then with her protection I built dungeons next to Palmia and stockpiled sacrifices until I could go through and get all of the gifts at once before switching back to Kumi. The rest are:

Clarion, an Android that hits people with lightsabers and occasionally blows stuff up with a railgun
Phobos, a Black Cat that does the same except with Living Sickles and a crossbow, for the occasional Ehekatl bonus, also maintains atrophy on anything tough enough for me to bother Cheering for
Bunny, a Defender covered in shields who does the usual Defender things and heals up anyone who gets hit
Gertsecomma, a Black Seraph mount for Boost + Speed + Lulwy's Trick shenanigans, also Dims things and shoots a bow
Takumi, an Exile who does Exile things
Chris, a Golden Goose who sings and shoots. Used to have a more thematically appropriate GAU-17 minigun firearm, but then I found a living pistol with "It occasionally stops time (###)" so she uses that now
Miku, a Throwing-specialized Cute Fairy. Probably the least effective god pet here, but the free seeds are nice.

Yet to be added are Hibiki, who'll be a Gokiburi who uses martial arts, and Tsubasa, who'll be a Blade with a big sword. Just need to step up herb production a bit a set aside some time to catch them up on skills a little.

>Me: a Juere Tourist who has a crippling distrust of magic since tomes do all kinds of eldritch crap. Uses nothing but 2handed broadswords, special acts, and magic device. It is like I am trying to set myself up for failure but I will see this through.
>Little Girl: Saved her life by making her drink 10 bottles of vodka in Palmia since I had no poison and she was pregnant. She now is constantly drinking since alcohol saved her life. Also a crazy murder hobo. Has spliced every god pet but one into her genes. Might have multiple personality disorder.
>Military Putit: basically a PTSD veteran explorer of the nefia. I have his tone file set to spout random military movie quotes sometimes edited for Elona.
>Fox Brother: I couldn't pronounce his name so nicknamed him Mozilla. Was going to change it back but had forgotten it. Made his personality helpful, but really annoyed no one gets his name right. By this point he can't even remember his name right.
>Defender: the straight man. Constantly praying to Jure that we somehow survive one more day. Is too old for this shit.
>Wooden Golem: I was really stupid, tried to make furniture and didn't know you could make golems in the process. Has to deal with the fact that his original purpose in life was to be a dog house and he was a mistake. Existential crisis intensifies.

I am split on this option.
On one hand, it makes things so much faster, and I'm somewhat used to having no animations from other roguelike/lite games.
On the other, animations are nice to see sometimes, when not hardcore grinding as fast as possible. And having it at zero makes less sounds play too.
I wish there would be an option to make animations and sounds play and let them run into the next frames audiovisually but take the same time as zero.
Or maybe an option to make wait 1 last half as long to double animation speeds without completely killing them, that would work too.
Just some kind of middle ground between zero and one.
Screen Refresh might work if it would go down to 1, maybe, but that bottoms out at 2.

Where the second fastest speed is about 1/2 to 1/4th the speed you want it but the fastest is absolutely unlimited realtime speed, as fast as your computer can process it, for a really lightweight game. If instead of Custom, then you miss out on some more translation, custom AI.
If Custom-G specifically, you'd miss out on the pleasantness of removing several nerfs and stupid shit like thirst, as well as reduced SP use for skilling.

If Vanilla, then you mostly miss out on some nostalgic tedium.

Other forks I'm not too sure of. They seem to be mostly just extra content. Though Elona+ probably has the most extra content overall.
Omake seems largely focused on variety of race and pets. With oomSEST specifically also adding more story content like South Tyris; though I'm also unsure of how similar that is to Elona+'s.
I guess they also avoid homogenising race/pet selection, due to lack of things like AP. So they differ in more than just skillset in the absolute end game, for better or worse.

Omake and most of the variants in the same branch were designed with role play accessibility in mind. It prioritized taking the existing Vanilla game and opening it up to be more "interactive" on a customization level, and that's reflected in many of the Japanese resource sites which have a lot more Omake related material than E+ related material. It could be said that Omake leans more towards the person who likes to dabble in building the game rather than playing the game.

Many of the "broken" parts in Omake are nested away and badly documented, like how Scrolls of Ally don't have properly documented level ranges, but has its own set of unique NPCs that scale up to Bell of Emergency levels (the level 80 Putit Cyborg). Or how the potions scaling up to level 30 ends up giving pretty hilarious stat effects (a blessed potion of speed at +30 gives 400 turns of 825 speed for instance). There are pockets of information like this scattered in various blogs, bbs and whatnot.

But for people who can't read Japanese most of the information that is available is meaningless to them, which means they have to experiment to find it themselves, but since most folks have probably played E+ instead of Vanilla for the majority of their time, it might not even be appealing to bother with experimentation, much less involve themselves in the customization work.

Not sure if anyone's interested, but I made a tiny edit to Elona+ Custom that removes the pet fatigue system, so you can order your young ladies can spam potions without them randomly saying they don't know what to do and stalling every other turn.

https://mega.nz/#!sZAx0IpT!GHi35Ak_92YeSnFfA6eYNm1H3NaW5jI9BXGBfAXx8YU

Compiled from the source.hsp that came with E+C, just commented out the lines that check pet "fatigue" and make them waste turns doing nothing.
That system, which wasn't documented on the Custom AI page, seems to affect all skills pets can use, and exists to be a sort of cooldown for skills. So if you use this tweak and use Custom AI to order your pets to spam a skill over and over, they will do exactly that, instead of loitering around half the time. It's OP but it won't happen unless you order them to do it anyway, so I say why not?

To begin with the OP didn't even mention Omake, you just felt like everyone needed to hear your anecdote about how you ran into a problem, and concluded the game looked bad. How did you want people to reply? "Cool story bro?" "I agree, Omake is Chinkshit?" "You made the right choice?"

The OP asked about only playing E+. You decided he needed to know all about your problems with Omake, a version he doesn't have any plans to play.

>>21035093
You realize he's the one arguing that Omake looks bad because of retarded no gaijin support shit right? Do you just like shooting that off at anyone whenever Omake shows up? By now you're the most consistent poster whenever anyone asks about Omake, and only because the same question gets rehashed every couple threads because "the thread got slow".

How many threads of this version baiting song and dance does this go on for until somebody finally makes a pastebin to put in the OP and shuts it down?

So basically you just want people to keep asking which version of the game to play, and people responding with the same answers because Omake isn't going to update, E+ hasn't seen any substantial changes to the game outside of grinding nerfs and probably no one here even bothers to play forks like URW, LSD, baby, whatever other obscure fork that's listed on variant wiki..

We've well into the double digits with this spoonfeeding, people have updated the wiki list out the forks, and yet people seem to think that this is actually still worthwhile to discuss. Somehow version questions are worthwhile, despite it always ending up as "This version is bad/good/ok", "Omake has X features, E+ has Y features, it's all on the wiki" and our friendly thread Omake Gaijin Spotter showing up without fail. Literally the easiest way to bait out the Gaijin Spotter is to write some post about Omake, and sprinkle some bullshit about Japanese wikis or Google searches into it and he'll bite every time. He's even more consistent than Kai was back in the day, with the exception that he's obsessed with this version spoonfeeding, whereas Kai actually played the game.

But guns are viable in E+ too, all the way to the endgame. Just like other ranged weapons, they may be more of a convenience choice than a power one (Hold [f] to make lesser things around you simply become ded; no need to target, no need to manage spell stocks), but they're still definitely viable and useable.
What does omake change in that regard?

That doesn't sound like it makes or breaks viability at all though. At least not without any specific example.
After a skim through that page the only ones even benefiting firearms are the (Weapon) Damage which affects any weapon type, and the special ammo conservation which affects all ranged types, nothing gun specific.
Most of them seem to be melee/tactical based buffs instead, with a few casting. Wouldn't that shift balance in the other direction, if anything?
>>21035546
Well that would be somewhat helpful.
Turret mode is a temporary immobile SP eating buff that adds equipment stats that supposedly makes it on par with 2h for the duration. It's really its own thing.

Guns have always been fairly viable. Even back in Vanilla. They can still be used in E+ all the way to to the endgame bosses. They're just not as powerful, missing things like sabers' 100% pierce or crazy high multihit like melee, or sustainable AoE like magic. Weapons of convenience.

I was kind of hoping it was something specifically useful for a gunner roleplaying game sometime, something to make them MORE viable, to avoid also needing mage to balance it out. But oh well.

Realistically, melee could have that convenience as well if someone would implement DCSS style autoattack. Like moving toward and attacking the targetted entity by pressing tab.

>Wouldn't that shift balance in the other direction, if anything?
The extra feats don't really change the status quo on how thing work given that most of Vanilla's old grind exploits still exist. Gunners play basically the same way regardless, press the buttons, shoot and things die. If things don't die fast enough, grind the stats and shoot bigger numbers. I suppose you could argue that because of how magic grinding worked in Vanilla, magic is more tedious in Omake? It runs off of the old platinum system, which basically means you can expect to stay at sub 100% potential for all skills throughout your run, and wave goodbye to spell potentials.

It's just that in Omake with the "endgame" being Zeome (Unicorn if you want to lump title collecting as part of the core game), it's pretty easy to "finish" the game without worrying about stats. Hopeless runs are a lot simpler in Omake, just because everything else never gets all that strong. Post game things get a bit more demanding, but because it's still effectively 1.22, it's not really all that bad. People that have played 1.22 or those who are still playing 1.22 will find the game slightly easier due to some of the changes, but overall most of the changes don't affect difficulty.

Oh yeah. I keep thinking omake has its own long running endgame storylines and bosses on par with E+. But most of its benefits are race/pet/feat/god customization or something instead, for better or worse.

Juere is directly to the west of Yerl, not south, with Zanan directly in between them, who would be much harder to persuade to allow two armies to rampage through their lands than weak little Palmia, also naval invasions aren't actually that easy, that's why countless times in history, nations have done exactly that, invaded through land from far away. Also where did it say Yerles sent their entire army? And one more thing, Yerles is technologically advanced, crossing a continent and perilous terrain isn't that hard for them since they've no shortage of vehicles. Get fucking schooled.

Ironically, North Tyris is actually known for being stronger overall thanks to how Nefia Syndrome works. There's technically more risk to go through North Tyris than Zanan, though theoretically Yerles wouldn't have a clue as to the real reason why since by the 11th age everyone has pretty much forgotten why Nefia Syndrome is even a thing.

Again, the game says that Yerles is at war with Eulderna. The Juere are, according to the wiki, the majority race of Eulderna, so maybe that's what's throwing you off here. If you look at the world map posted above, Eulderna is south of Yerles with only a couple of smaller nations and a narrow strait separating them.
It's okay if the game's plot is dumb, I doubt anyone is playing it for the amazing story. You don't have to work yourself up to a froth defending it.

The intricacies and difficulties of naval warfare have nothing to do with it. I mean, I see why you're comparing the scenarios, and if you condense them to "cross water, cross difficult land, fight enemy" the comparison is accurate enough. When you realize that most of the vast majority of the soldiers you encounter in Tyris are in the Nefia, and the folks that enter the Nefia will end up suffering from Nefia Syndrome basically without fail, it's pretty easy to see why the whole thing is a mess.

You literally have soldiers from foreign countries that show up and get their ass kicked by monsters just lurking under the surface of the continent, unaware that if they go deep enough they'll encounter shit so terrifying that just one of them could probably destroy a country. And yet they get addicted to going deeper and deeper until they just never come back.

Make a crafting team (a full team with skills that allow you to collect materials from them while they kill shit). While the crafting team is active, prioritize making picnic baskets over potential pots. +12 picnic baskets are basically potential pots, except stronger for every pet you have, and easier to make than potential pots if you have a proper farm set up (Not a herb farm). Periodically collect materials from your team, slow down the potential recovery until you can consistently maintain potential via picnic baskets, and keep building up the potential potion stock.

If you're not playing E+ and this is Vanilla (where potions of potential are abysmal), all you can do is keep rotating through merchants. Scrolls of gain material are too RNG to be consistent and crafting them requires even more mats to begin with, and Vanilla plat mechanics are a nightmare, which makes grinding skills to make picnic baskets easier to craft (at the cooking checkpoints where food doubles and triples) a very long haul.

Miral and Garoks does not give anything for stat potential, it gives Scroll of Growth (for skill potential) and Hermes Pots (which drain Speed potential in Vanilla, and are best used for Pets in E+).

Wait what. People actually go fully hopeless, never reviving potential at all? WHY? I just can't imagine wanting to slow progression down that hard. Like you probably can't just play smart and complete things at a somewhat low level there, but rather actually NEED a heavy grind to even reach that point.
Is that really a real thing? Do people do that?

>> No.21038604

>>21038309
Back in Vanilla, because recovering potential was an absolute nightmare (It can take double digit numbers of potential pots just to recover from hopeless), there used to be a school of thought that instead of trying to build up a foundation for grinding, it was easier to complete the game just leaving the stat potentials alone and focusing on progress through gear or pets instead.

"Hopeless" runs were basically an effort into trying to smooth this out as much as possible, by finding the best items which would even out the playing field, accepting that the player's stats would be absolute crap by the end. Strategies like using key pets, alcohol poisoning, cargo grinding, all complement this, because they don't bank on stats to have full effect.

Naturally with the changes to E+, there's really no point to doing a Hopeless run outside of a challenge run (Hopeless Inferno). The difference is that in E+, the progression slow down is quite noticeable, but in Vanilla 1.22 it isn't, because the amount of merchant cycles you'd need to sustain potential is extremely high especially if you don't save scum merchants. A Hopeless run in Vanilla isn't actually all that bad at all.
