The Steam market has shruken, but I'd argue that the MG store market has generally grown. MG also seems to view Steam as a secondary market, so Steam releases weakening probably won't affect their release schedule. At the very least, Alicesoft and other nukige are probably unaffected. Even though Evenicle, Kyonyuu Fantasy, and Hadaka got onto Steam, I doubt MG is trying to gun for concurrent releases with Alicesoft, the other Funbag Fantasy titles, or Room No 9.

The issue with Steam is that their inconsistent company policy makes negotiating which games can go on their platform a chore, so there are probably a few titles that might be stalled for a concurrent Steam release. Higurashi shouldn't have issues at this point, but it wouldn't surprise me if Bokuten, Trinoline, and Amaterasu would have issues (all have been promised Steam releases IIRC).

Tokyo Chronos has a definitely point in time where the funding spiked dramatically somewhere in the last half of the campaign. It was almost certainly one person giving a shit ton of money, far beyond what the highest tier offered. That's the only project I'll claim that Sekai was probably cheating.

Anime Boston is April 19th this year, so they'll probably finish compliling the survey results by mid-April at the latest. That said, even if hints don't drop by then, the first 3 secret projects are likely to all have been projects originally planned to be announced last year, so this year's hints aren't likely to apply to Anime Boston except maybe for Secret Project 4.

Aside from the near-obligatory yuri, BL, and otome releases, I personally think that we'll have even less Steam reliant releases than last year due Steam's backtracking on its content policy, which may mean more large nukige this year or MG starts dabbling more in cheap HRPGs. Due to the abnormally high amount of Alicesoft announcements the last couple of years (3 large announcements in both 2017 and 2018), I also predict fewer major Alicesoft announcements this year, maybe 2. According to Xev only 3 visual novels made enough profit last year and are considered successful. He didn't say which ones, but it's pretty obvious that it was Sanoba Witch, Koikuma and Evenicle. Everything else didn't sell enough or was straight up a flop, so I would say that the guy is right and the market did get smaller.
The only surprise from last year for me was Sideboob Story, shit was so good that I'm legit sad that it didn't make it in the chart. Hope a steam release is planned for the extra sales boost, I need at least Sideboob Story 2 and After.
It seems like the visual novel licenses are getting larger and more expensive vs no substantial growth in the visual novel community. Iroseka needed 20k each according to kickstarter and that's a 8 year old visual novel. Dunno if they should go back to licensing 2-10 nukige like NukigeGamer or rely on kickstarter more and more, but in the long run it could mean less bigger licenses and more HRPG trash since that seems to be selling well regardless of quality.
