Hello.

I placed an order at hmv, used all my available coupons, checked out, but had to cancel because I put the wrong version of the used item on my cart (CD instead of vinyl).

The order's been cancelled, I sent them a message apologizing, and I tried to place the same order this time with the vinyl instead, but my coupons are gone.

Do they give you back the coupons after a while or am I shit outta luck? It was the 3000 yen coupon too...

So Pierre Taki from Denki Groove got arrested for cocaine use.
It seems they raided his home and everything.
I assume since it was just drug use, he won't stay in jail or anything, but I'm afraid it'll fuck up his reputation.
What's funny is that it took 30 years for the cops to notice he was high on something though.

Stumbled upon them again recently and am going through a nostalgia trip. The closest thing to a vanilla j-rock band I ever liked, very fun guitar parts

I'm really into 美波 (Minami) recently, her debut single for DomeKano is decent standard rock, good but nothing really special (understandable though because it's her first album after all)

But what I really like are her strong vocals, strong very loud styled music, and semi flamboyant ish image/appearance. She feels like she has what it takes to become pure rockstar that can captivate others by her strong (in a manly or cool way) persona and music. Helps a lot too that she looks a little bit like someone on drugs, having illness, and has just the right amount of flamboyant appearance lol. Anyway I really have high expectations of her especially after she has enough experiences and live performances, she's a nice change of pace with her "girl frontman with wild image" which is rare these days other than Shizuku from Polkadot Stingray

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIRiduzNLzQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnFbqCI-6eY

On a side note if she deleted all of her online photos because of privacy it makes me respect her a lot more because it means that she isn't dumb and attention whoring herself too much. Also some of her live gigs photos I've seen also shows that people don't really take out their phones and I like that about her too

Her gear is pretty minimalist too and I like that, hope that she doesn't become a fullblown gearfag like SCANDAL girls in the future in the case of her being famous as fuck
- Acoustic setup : a beatup cutaway Martin HD 35 CFM IV (probably her first "serious" expensive guitar bought second hand or just used a lot in the past or a combination of the two, probably the last ones because no fucking way she can afford it new at this stage $8k-$10k/$800k - $1mil yen) a Martin OO 28, a tc electronic BodyRez
- Electric setup : a blue Telecaster Thinline with maple fretboard, Boss TU-3, Boss BD-2 Blue Driver, (probably) a Marshall JCM amp, a Yamaha monitor speaker, a doggy doll

Forgive my autism but she has no red flags usually found in public figures that put me off as of right now and I really appreciate that

Cool, thanks for the recommendations. It always amazes me as a musicfag that traditional rock bands/singers thrive alongside electronic ones in Japan, they aren't entirely fallen into the trap of singular globalized world culture in today's world, and don't get me started on doujin music too. All hail isolationism!

any recommendation band like Sayonara Ponytail ?
Their composing style is somewhat weird and different, it's kinda hard to determine their song is about joy or sadness. and it's give me some weird feelings every time i listening to them.

No because that kind of band is rare lol, I personally like those kind of music too but music like that is harder to find compared to standard pop rock band. The closest I can think of is Round Table feat Nino (the difference is only that Round Table has cutesy vocal while Sayonara Ponytail has sweet mellowish vocal) and Maaya Sakamoto's acoustic/rock pop-ish band songs

Some examples :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdyLCPctl8Y

This kind of music is hard to find because it falls into a genre which I call "pop/rock guitar centric band based on piano composed songs". This explanation won't make sense if you don't play music but to put this into perspective, musician usually composes music using piano or guitar, the differences between the final products of the two are very clear for intermediate skilled musician, with piano music "usually" has more complex and longer song structure. BUT, musician who compose songs on piano and translate those songs into pop rock band with guitar as the main instrument in the center is very rare. That's what Round Table and Sayonara Ponytail do, and those kind of bands are rare

But the fact that she isn't a big of an idiot to be an attention whore too much online and throwing away her privacy already puts her above 90% celebrity in my opinion. Do any of you know much about 神聖かまってちゃn? I discovered their debut a few years ago and loved it, but it seems like all the follow-ups lost what made it special despite getting way more popular then. The whole story fascinates me, but it seems impossible to learn much without knowing Japanese, so I was hoping someone here might know more about them, and could tell me some things. I even ordered the CD, in fact, but it got lost in the mail twice though I paid twice for shipping, then gave up :(

How did they get famous, and why so quickly? I heard they had some controversial image at first from doing music videos in public, how'd that turn out? During what years would the lead singer stream on niconico? Was he really so much of a NEET like us? Does their new music still have dark/creative lyrics? And most importantly, did they sell out?

You don't have to answer all of them, I'm just really curious. From what I understand, their debut has basically zero popularity among their core fanbase, and it's only their newer sound that gained the following. It really depressed me to listen to all their albums after the debut and only find a handful of songs with the same spark as it had, or same creativity. I'm also curious if you feel that way too.

>>21167061
>How did they get famous, and why so quickly?
I wouldn't say they're very famous, but I think a lot of their appeal is and was they're band of outsiders for outsiders and a lot of Noko's lyrics express that.
>I heard they had some controversial image at first from doing music videos in public, how'd that turn out?
Well, a lot of the ones uploaded on Noko's channel are demo music videos
https://www.youtube.com/user/vivaru/videos
He edits them, and his father films them (except for the newest two). In a lot of them they did film without permission and trespass, and in the MV for Zuttomo where they run on the little bridge part was trespassing as well. The Ruru-chan music video from last year was shot on the train without permission, for example, which is why he had to blur their faces.
But that wasn't particularly why they were controversial, it's because on a lot of their early television appearances Noko fucked around
https://youtu.be/IJIPWh-vBzs like here
And in a lot of their early live shows he'd cut himself before shows, do them incredibly drunk, get in fights with other members, which is where some of the controversy comes from, but that's mostly stopped.
A lot of their notoriety also stems from Noko's public livestreams, particularly this one
https://youtu.be/2YB5Do6oCjg
> During what years would the lead singer stream on niconico
He still livestreams very often but mainly on twitcasting these days, usually just chatting in his room but he does still go out and about
https://twitcasting.tv/0u0hanako666
Whenever they have a tour they'll livestream most of the concert dates on there, or on their niconico channel. He still writes short "blogs" on his premium niconico channel fairly frequently and uploads demos there as well.
> Was he really so much of a NEET like us?
He kind of is, yeah. He dropped out of high school, but spent a lot of his time until their debut as a "freeter". When he doesn't have any work or when they're not recording anything, like now, for example, he stays in his room most of the day except for going out to eat and stuff.
>Does their new music still have dark/creative lyrics?
I really like a lot of the lyrics on last year's TsunxDere, but apart from Tunnel they're not dark anymore. This is something Noko has admitted to on stream (a few months ago when he showed off a new song he made, he talks about it at the start here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEd6ObvxqLY , he plays a demo version of the song at 14:35 if you're interested), he says he genuinely can't think of lyrics anymore because he's basically said all he has to say.
>did they sell out?
Eh. I think there definitely was an attempt to get into the mainstream with the cleaner production values you got with eiyuu syndrome, which also has the hit song Front Memory, but I don't think it really worked given their waning popularity.
>From what I understand, their debut has basically zero popularity among their core fanbase
Their core fanbase has largely shifted to a younger and female audience, but at concerts they still mostly perform songs from their debut so I wouldn't say it has "zero popularity". Out of the 20 songs they performed at their latest concert they had about 2 weeks ago, 10 were from Tomodachi (first mini album), Tsumanne and Minna Shine. So they're still popular enough to warrant performing for the people who currently go to their shows.
>I'm also curious if you feel that way too.
I definitely understand how you feel, but I don't really feel the same way and it's hard for me to explain why.

>> No.21168010

Thank you for all the detail, that's an excellent reply.
>I definitely understand how you feel, but I don't really feel the same way and it's hard for me to explain why.
From what you've written, I get it. They're still making the music they want to make - now they've found their sound and stuck with it. What lacks to me is that nothing else has quite that same passion as their debut. It's good, energetic rock music, and on a sonic level they haven't really changed at all (minus the disappearance of more glitchy elements), but inつまんねえ it's like it had a purpose, like an emotional gut punch all to symbolize what his life had been up to that point, and if you're a creative sort of person who had a difficult or tragic youth with some time in NEEThood, it resonates really, really strongly. I had never heard anything like that album, you know, and there's still no piece of music that continues off what it was for me. Like it had perfectly summarized all my discoveries coming into adulthood, and what it feels like to live in the 2010s, and it's really rare for any music to do such a thing, so you can imagine the effect it had. This was particularly strong in the first five songs, which moved me more than possibly any music I've heard before or since.

Sorry to get so personal, but I'm sure you can relate to some of what I describe. No doubt his feelings about the world would be most impassioned during the most turbulent time of his life, when it was all fresh, but I still wonder what inspired the change in songwriting that's evident from shortly after the debut that has stayed constant until now. It seems like there's a real lack of build-up, and they rather just stick to one groove that will climax, and it sounds good, but it doesn't feel powerful. And that's the difference. I do like it more upon relistening to it though.

I hope that explains it anyways. No matter what, they're still a more fascinating band now than 99% of what's out there, so I still like them.

Have you listened to Zin-Say? It's the band before Denki Groove, very similar to early DG but even crazier.
Also you could try Scha Dara Parr, a hip hop trio that also worked with Denki Groove at some point and even released an album together.

why do i prefer female japanese artists over their male counterparts? my speculation is that i am lonely and hearing a female’s voice gives me the comforting illusion that i’m receiving female human interaction.

i like OYAT, a male soul band, but nothing else comes to mind. nujabes? lol. recommend me some male artists plz. some chill shit or crazy shit i don’t care. thank you

I'm similar. I prefer female vocals from japanese music, but male vocals for english songs. However, I tend to listen to <2000s english music and pretty much modern day japanese music, so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyways, here's something chill.

Anyone here follow Audrey and Kate?
A couple of girls who learned guitar though the game Rocksmith. It's like Guitar Hero, except it uses real guitars as inputs. So you actually learn how to play.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpeDWRu1ZvQ

Audrey is apparently a savant at the game, playing on high levels since she was like 8 years old or something. Her little sister Kate use to just cheer her one and yell and scream, but she's taken on bass as she got old enough to play. Now, they're even beginning to make their own music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GjMipByxJE

In current development, Kate got a new stand up bass. She appears to have adapted to it immediately.

I'm the same way. I love their old shit to bits. Hell, I'm listening to the first version of 黒いたまご they came out with right now. But lately their last few albums have straight up sucked for me. Like one good song an album. Though I'm not mad. Artists change over the years and if they're making the music they want to, then I support them 100%, even if my ears don't.

>> No.21214037

>>21213874
It's cool to find more people who love つまんね, I think it's really special. The production alone for instance is easy to overlook - they truly nailed that overwhelming emotional feel, the dizziness, the confusion - it's almost like Romantic music with how powerful it gets. A stark contrast with their later works, which share a similar sound but lack this element of passion, you know. The most surprising thing to me is that as a live spectacle, the band is still incredible. の子 dives into the audience like once every song, he fucks around, girls are screaming his name, they do skits, have an encore, and so on. You would mistake them for a new band. They still clearly care, there's just something missing. I can't guess what it is.

I still think they're a good band nowadays, you've just got to appreciate them for what they are. That song with the video on the train is catchy. Will we see another amazing album from them again? I doubt it. But we still appreciate what we have, and there's always a chance this inspires some group to continue what they started. Considering it still sounds fresh while approaching its ten-year anniversary, I don't think it's impossible.

>> No.21214146

つまんね is where they clicked for me. I listened to 夏.インストール and some other album and I pretty much thought "Eh, this stuff is pretty good." but then I listened to つまんね and that blew the shit out of the other stuff. Now when I want to listen to them, I just listen to that and their old demos, since those combine the depressing atmosphere and lyricism found in their early work with level of rough production that I find charming.

he's one of the few japanese artists that can understand and speak english relatively well so it's a shame they've done nothing to capitalise on that besides that new ThunderCats cartoon, but even he has no idea what's going on with it.
(though he filmed an English message introducing himself for it https://youtu.be/JPVZI_Xv3bM?t=11195))
he's gone and read the English comments on Zuttomo on stream, gone through western covers of the attack on titan ending song they did, so coupled with this he knows there's a western fanbase. he's mentioned that they're looking into doing an overseas show, but the only places they've been looking at is Korea and China & Taiwan apparently, which, again, is a shame since I do think they'd be received well in Europe and the US
