Well this is a nice little variation on an age-old discussion, isn't it.

You know how we have those videos of swords cutting through bamboo? Find me a video where a Japanese sword cuts through European armor with the same ease.

A katana can easily bisect a fully-armored knight.

Samurai were just more well trained. Any bozo could pick up a sword and be a knight, but a samurai required years and years of training.

Are we assuming the knight will be a maile clad Norman with sword and kite shield from the year 1066? An English or French chevalier of 1350 in partial plate with arming sword ready for duel in the champ clos? Will he be an Italian condottieri from 1450 resplendent in full regalia? Or will he be a Teutonic knight of circa 1400 in a head-to-toe suit of articulated Gothic plate-armor and bastard sword? Will the samurai be wearing the older box-like Muromachi armor and armed with a tachi blade? Or will he wear the later close fitting Kamakura period do-maru armor and use the more familiar katana? For that matter, would the samurai be allowed to use both his long katana and his wakizashi short sword together?

Most knights where trained since a very young age to wear the full plate armor, the weight on the common armor was about 27+- kilo wich is less then what you get trained to carry these days in the army.

Katana atop metal would, damage, crack, or even shatter most katanas. Its light, sharp, and deadly, but it is also VERY FRAGILE.

Pretty much its an even fight, if the samurai knows where to strike in the small gaps of the knights armor.
But if he fails to land a decent hit he'll pay dearly with a powerful hit and will put him down in a single strike.

Knight vs samurai doesn't make much sense anyway, since they both focused on entirely different jobs. Pitting a samurai against a fencer would be more interesting.

I was doing a practice for a demonstration i was thinking of doing. I had a block of clay under padding + chain maille. I had done this before using various European weapons to show how the maille works. I decided I would use one of the katanas I had laying around instead just to see what would happen and if it would even be safe. The katana bent some of the rings in the maille, the maille bit into the blade of the katana, and sent slivers of the blade into the padding and the courtyard. The katana was so badly damaged from it that it wasn't safely usable, however, the maille would live to fight another day.

Clay impact showed that it did exactly what I expected and diffused the blow across the torso. It wouldn't have been fatal at all, might have hurt like hell, and knocked him over, but he would be getting up to fight again.
