someone tell y*** and m*** that using yomichan with an english and japanese dictionary, and using firefox with the clipboard inserter and the blank html page makes reading japanese definitions really easy because you can ctrl+c any word in the japanese definition you don't know, it appears on the page, and you can look up its english definition by hovering over it. no need to do the autistic morphman shit.

The kanji sometimes have some redundancy. Dropping a part from a kanji doesn't always lead to confusion with something else. For example, neighboring - 隣. Dam, rice, dancing. Even if you ignore the dancing part, there's no other common kanji with dam and rice. So I don't worry about it. I ignore parts of many kanji.

it's official MEXT guidance to write animal names in katakana, so it's not just "to make it easier for kids". it's because if there's too many kanji for animals that the generic rule has to be that or they'd have to pick which kanji are fine out of the thousands for animal names. I learned English despite watching English movies with English subs.

I was told not to use ANY subs for Japanese movies, but thinking about it maybe I should watch them with the subs? Maybe this will boost the progress?

I feel like I learned nothing by watching about 150 episodes of Dragon Ball not to mention all the other anime, dramas and TV shows. TV shows taught me most because they include some writings most of the time.

I have 6000 Core6k flashcards, 2000 normal flashcards and 7000 flashcards made from Anime using my method resulting in a total of 15000 flashcards. I still have a lot to learn, but to say I have not attained any results is false. Not only have I noticed a tremendous tremendous difference in how effective my flashcards are compared to normal flashcards, I can at the present moment pretty much pick up anything I am interested in and enjoy it. You'd use a dictionary regardless of what you're reading, no? So it's irrelevant as a variable in this case. I guess the length could influence perceived difficulty, but I remember understanding a lot of the sentences on the first go and being able to get most of the other ones with relatively little effort.

I believe true learning requires torture, so I made anki cards like this

Sometimes it's used to put emphasis on the word, like typing in caps in english. Sometimes it's because the kanji is uncommon. But yeah, it's fairly common that writers just write words randomly with kana for no reason.
