Finally got around to finishing Apocrypha yesterday.
Fuck ya'll, that was good. Not great, pretty bad as a story, but still a fuckton of fun. Great spectacle. Lot of fantastic fights towards the end, which is saying something for how little I cared about most of the people involved in them.
Astolfo was (somehow) fantastic from start to finish. No idea where that lack of self confidence came form, though. Mordred and Necromancer were the best part of the show and deserved to be the focus. Drac and Frank were fun. William was a late bloomer, but oh man was he great towards the end. Semiramis was pretty low-key great too, though that's probably those wonderful, WONDERFUL ears talking.
Everyone else was...pretty dull, but with a couple exceptions not outright bad. Seven hits and a bunch of B-listers makes for a pretty good cast, I'd say, especially when said B team is having these kick ass fights every other episode.

On those exceptions, though...
Jack sucked, Sieg was appallingly boring, and shockingly, Jeanne was...terrible. Like really, really bad, she was just completely worthless. What did she do? What did she accomplish? Blocked a big laser that one time, talked a lot of shit, started a few fights before passing them on to somewhat better characters, which all amounts to fucking nothing. Then in the grand finale she unleashes her super mode...and gets immediately crushed and dies. What the fuck. I still like her design, and the bits of her hitch-hiking and bussing around at the beginning were great, but...that's it, and it's ONLY those tiny bits that keep her being from the worst part of the entire show. Plus she has horrible taste in men. How the fuck do you make a heroine this bad?
At least she gave them an excuse to use Gilles again. Good for him, protecting his waifu at last, that was nice.

Apocrypha is something that was flawed from the get go in my opinion. DUDE WHAT IF WE TOOK A HGW... AND DOUBLED THE PARTICIPANTS AND MADE IT A HGW VS HGW sounds cool on paper it's much harder to properly apply in practice. It's not something that would work on LN format unless you're super skilled and even then a bunch of characters are likely to get shafted. Apocrypha would work better as a VN where everyone gets some focus per route and gets offed early in some other routes and so on.

Overall Fate Jeanne is one of the worst fictional depictions of her that I can recall.

The LN shows more of her historical side, like addiction to explosives, shit-talking skills as she gets late sometimes because she was arguing with people, gets called to verify the geas made with the homunculi where she remembers her last months were a “war at court” and analyzes the geas to verify any trap in it etc.
It’s interesting because the LN points out Shakespeare wrote about her in Henry V as well, with him saying he had his unfair share of fun using her when alive, matching how he came from a time people already knew her trials were a set-up

I didn't like Caster and her Master as main villains, I didn't really care for the Emiya/Shirou dynamic, and despite starring the best heroine, Rin was by far at her worst in this route, going from a competent and powerful you can always rely on too a blushy, girly wimp who always needs to rely on you. So given how I enjoyed Apocrypha and it's shallow as fuck characters and mindless action and pretty bad story, I got to thinking, maybe FGO is worth a try after all. Why not? It's been forever since First Order convinced me to stay the fuck away from this shit, maybe it's time to consider it again. But...

>Limited Servents
...why? What? Why is this a thing? That seems...so contrary to the supposed mission statement of this game. Collect your waifus and go on a magical adventure through time, and give us your money so can collect said waifus faster, maybe!
Except you can't collect your waifus. At all. They were from this limited-time event a couple years back and are now completely impossible to acquire. It doesn't matter how much money you shove into this thing, you can't get your waifu, so...don't. Don't pay anything.
What is this? This seems like it makes the exact opposite of sense.

It's not just the pandering aspect, it's how those characters are still used in "serious" parts of the story, as if the game wasn't hard enough to get invested in already. Like, I'd be fine with Ishtar taking over Rin's body as a dumb April Fool's thing (if they still bothered to do those), it's a fun design, but nope, she's a totally established, permanent character. Part of why Babylonia is trash is bringing in FSN character designs for Ishtar and Jaguar Man, it clashes so hard with the entire mood they try to set.
I'll never understand how anyone enjoys FGO's story as anything more than "stupid contrived bullshit".

You don’t understand? By limiting the available banner, people are forced to spend money as the countdown ends and their waifu isn’t rolled. Unlucky people fail to get Jeanne Alter in 2.000 dollars and this is how they make money with this game. A simple system that basically prints money. That’s why Nasu couldn’t care less for VNs anymore.
but depending on the gacha, one can predict when they will return. Let us say you want to roll Artoria Lancer Alter. She is from London, so when a new section of the story arrives, around that time they open up story banners etc.

Yup. Though if I’m not mistaken, that’s why most of the FSN servants are low rarity, as during that time, FGO was just a mobile to advertise main games instead of the other way around. Story is worse in earlier chapters, servants fans recognize would be easier to acquire (Hassan and Kojiro are bronze, Medea, Cu and Medusa are silver, Hercules and EMIYA can be gotten at the tutorial, Artoria is the only truly hard to get).
When they noticed that they hit jackpot, then they started taking it seriously and jewing people hard. If any of the original FSN servants were released today, high chances that they’d be high rarity or limited, though technically they made alternate versions of them for thay

there's like a 80% chance you're going to be stuck at the camelot singularity as a new player because the game doesn't hand out enough currency to guarantee you have a good lineup, and the best way to get upgrade materials is by doing events, which they have increasingly locked behind having cleared the latest chapter. the only realistic chance you have is clinging to a veteran players servants like a disgusting leech or breaking summoning currency for endless continues.

As a player that likes this thing (and most TM stuff), I have to say: this is too addicting, man. It may be best to stay away cause this gacha really doesn’t treat the playerbase well. The rates are VERY low, the currency is dry, and if you are aiming for a specific servant you are pretty much set for steeling yourself to save up for months for that 0.7% chance of rolling them that you may even fail. I’m to deep in this rabbit hole, have seen people spend thousands in this and fail, I’m sure I’m only here because I was lucky that the one servant I truly wanted I got but that may have just triggered Stockholm Syndrome and put me in a road of no return.

in the mainquests they are all as bland as possible, and 95% of the events are all pure comedy putting every servant on crack and spew unfunny jokes every second line.
the only event they even remotely did a good good job with is CCC.

Oh, as long as I've got a friend on the inside around...

There been any Olga developments recently? She was the only part of that OVA I gave a damn about, and a combination factors made it a pretty strong damn to give. Still check in occasionally too see if anything's changed with her.
I know there's this ice alien lady made of nothingness or something who's very, VERY clearly implied to either be Olga or closely connected to her in some way, the current plot arc is supposedly masterminded by her dad, and the sun thing she got chucked in is currently frozen solid, and...that's all I've got. It’s 3% for an SR and 1% for an SSR each time you roll. When there is a rate-up, that 1% becomes 0.7% for the specific servant and 0.3% for all the spooks nobody wants each time you roll.
The ironic part is that while FGO sucks at giving you gold servants in general (this essentially means a 10-roll has roughly 40% chance of giving one), the rate-up chances are actually the better one of the gachas. You won’t get as many rare cards, but the chances of you getting what you want are technically higher.
Never spend money on this game or you end up as one of those people. Either you roll who you want without spending anything, or you got 600+ rolls for it. There is to midway either you have luck or you don’t

Hinako actually feels like a setup for the potential Tsukihime remake. I play LLSIF and F/GO. I can tell you that LLSIF is by far more generous - at least in its current state; can't talk about how it was in the past. There's always some event, love gems are easy to get, it's fairly easy to get SRs, SSRs and I have around 10 URs despite never spending a cent on this game. The gameplay is fun, the girls are still cute. Can't complain. With F/GO, all I keep getting are literally-who servants and these nearly worthless fucking cards. I've been playing for a month and all I have that I care for is shota Gil. In contrast, when I got into LLSIF, I was just given an R (not that impressive, but F/GO gives you nothing) girl of my choosing, and I was able to get the rest of the cast pretty quickly in some quality. By the time I was playing it for a month I already had URs.

>aliens
No, normalfags saw the lostbelt invasion as "aliens" from space because they couldn't explain it. "Lost History Infiltration Phenomenon", that's what causing this, not aliens (some stupid idiots mistranslated it in the PV sub as "outsider" or some shit, it's wrong because they didn't know japanese at all). There's no actual aliens hint in the actual story other than the self-proclaim unseen boss claim he's a "god of another planet" when he's established as a deceiver and liar so you're supposed to take him as seriously as Goetia claiming he's Grand Caster Solomon in London. Worse because you see him using and lying to his followers.

Every single piece of material Nasu published in Lostroom it's firmly pointing is Olga and her father. And in part 1 finale we had hints about who the enemy is (Beast VII of the End, in time temple; Sin of Shame, in Babylonia). The most obvious clue is that the emergency Chaldea got ready for was detected in 2015 and yet Olga's father, who committed suicide on the control room, had a team of 7 "Crypters" assembled for another purpose (he specifically told Olga to not address them as Master Candidates). I need to remind 4 things too:

A) Olga's creepy ghost child self in MB Manga. She is cpable of dragging the soul of Sion to Siamlin world. Arc can only bring her back if she goes full Archetype Earth. What is Olga?
B) Olga died yet her soul didn't disperse. Her body immediately should have painted the walls, and the rayshifting operation didn't happen until long after that. Why? Where did her father was found dead? Hint: next to the control room, next to the control panel that activates rayshifting.
C) This began in Fuyuki which was a Singularity without Humanity Value that Goetia didn't start.
D) The reason why Olga's father wanted to activate Chaldeas was to get answers to some questions about the instabiliy of the Ages of Men and the end of the Ages of Gods. He couldn't do this unless he gets money to operate Chaldeas. Solomon immediately gets his vision of Goetia's plan in action after they make their wishes (and we know for sure it's unrelated to Solomon's because Goetia's plan exists outside the timelines Solomon became Roman). In Cosmos of the Lostbelt, Wodime mentions how the god didn't like the answers found in panhistory, even if all right, he preferred the discarded histories ones.

The OP lyrics connect strongly to "shame" as theme and we know it has spoilers for everything as part 1 OP does.

Nasu's enemies are thematic, this is FGO far side, aliens are just filler characters and Servants, who are confirmed unable to stop the actual enemies (the Beasts - Nasu said this was what FGO was about and its main theme: history).

In the plot, Chaldea is completely blind to all these outside material because they are kept in the dark though. Gil didn't even warn them Beast VII manifested but you, the player, knows. They get red herrings as usual, as in part 1. It's the players that should ignore it and read what's available of things Chaldea doesn't know. Like how Part 1 had spelled aloud "Solomon" was actually Beast I since London profile.

Asking most of /tmg/ who don't play fgo and get their biased information from BL is wasting your time. Go to demonition site and search the manifesto of Gordolf = Olga comparison by actual Japanese who understand the story. Which is extremely important to understand Olga's role here. Gordolf is a character who has been inserted in the story and took away everything Olga could have had in the plot, including the ability to rayshift. Starting similar but his fate got averted and was saved. He's though compared in the plot in a positive way vs Olga, like Olga is his darker foil.

That priestess who appeared first when Guda and Mashu talked about Olga? She watched how Gordolf got saved. And the scene lingered on her. You fucking bet that wasn't accidental.

Cosmos is a story about the ones who are "winners" and "losers." There are foils of the cast empathized on the other side sometimes.

You won't get a more obvious hint until after LB5, they took three LBs to confirm Fou's intelligence has returned. We know the priestess "doesn't remember yet" how to communicate in our language, by the way. This means she's not alien at all, if it wasn't already obvious. She forgot.

Why can't TM/Fate fans work together to translate TM works? I mean, people stay here complaining the whole day that FGO is shit and that people only care about FGO. Seriously, a lot of Fate works are not available for people like me that don't know japanese. No one is translating Requiem, Apocrypha (we got the anime at least, but the novel seems dropped), Prototype, El-Melloi II. I even wonder if I’ll be ever able to read the next volume of Strange Fake. No one wants to translate CCC or Mahoyo either. Every time a new TM anime is released, it sells very well (not counting Extra), so there are a lot of people that might be interested in the franchise. But no, you people are here saying only “Learn Japanese!”. I wonder why people only play FGO. No one will ever care about anything else if it continues like this.

In Babylonia. King Hassan warns the MC about two evils he must overcome. One is Pity and the other is Shame. He skipped over the filler midbosses and event ones to just address the first arc boss, and likely the second one. It was foreshadowing.

The scene wasn't translated well in NA so most blink and missed it. Since they cut all the emphasis of repeating why Pity was bad with Shame as a mirror on the same scene, "yeah guess Shame's too."

Shame, be shame of one self-being lacking, of their own sense of worthlessness. This can lead to lash out and reject help or suicide. Olga's dad killed himself in mysterious circumstances. The way the answers of panhistory, his own history, aren't 'good enough'. A Beast of the "End." Maybe is a Beast that would eventually be Humanity's suicide.

One of the few only main traits of the fucking MC that are actually consistent and aren't half-assed is the MC zest for life. The MC wants to live no matter what. So this beast being the opposite makes actual sense.

I fail to see how these two things are correlated. Also Fragments has been translated on BL, parts of Case Files, most of Apocrypha, there's a blog having Gil's normal route of CCC, you can buy Extella/link, and I suppose you've read all the older works that are already fan-translated.
>I'm studying it, but I work 8+ hours per day, so I won't be able to read anything for I don't even know how much time.

Read Against the Light lyrics. You have the feeling of being lacking and unable to do shit of the singer who is confirmed not as Mashu.

Nasu always insert hints the cast like Mashu or Guda fucking miss because they get baited with red herrings, but those hints are meant for the players to take into account. Like the scene with Roman's ring they misunderstood but served to the players to note "Roman hides the fact he's got a ring."

While I'm not a fan of FGO's story and setting, it clearly had some thought put into it by Nasu, with stuff like the songs and Roman's character. So again, same as above, why is that a "positive"? There is some good interaction (mostly involving main Chaldea characters, and Marie-Mozart in Orleans, for example, Euryale and Asterios, and America onward there are good balanced cast which have actual meaningful interaction). What hurts the most is the MC not being able to introspect to not ruin the fantasies, but when the MC does (in Proto Arthur quest, for example), Shimosa Manga, Moonlight Lostroom, and now in LB have more of that, it's actually quite fine. Chaldea functions the way it functions due to him rather than Olga or her father (they are "his living will"), while Gordolf is definitely better than Olgamarie for the director role. Couldn't disagree more, to this day the cast of each chapter is 90% garbage. I hate the way characters and dialogue are written, feels super artificial and I can never get invested in it as a "serious" story (though it's even worse when it tries to be humorous/meta). I feel like being a cancerous gacha mobage is a major part of FGO's identity, and it prevents the story from being enjoyed on its own for what little value it might have.
Also disagree on Guda being "fine" when they try to give him a little bit of a character, he just becomes bland and boring instead of being a fucking camera following events around.

Guda actually got somehow more showcase of their personality through being more active in LB3 (LB1 was kind of similar in this too with Kadoc and Avicebron, but more obvious in LB3). Guda's someone who desperately fights to live yet still lets Gordolf takes the cure and puts their lives on a stake by leading on the frontlines poisoned. They were about to die. Qin was impressed by that considering once shared the basic desire (to live) and all. Also Qin's "humanity is the one that bears the burden of choices" and was just one in his lb (Qin) was confronted by Chaldea way of doing things: many humans (weaker and less great than Qin as collective) becoming strong by join under one objective. He starts to change (allowing Han Xin and Li Su Wen do the same thing and they put the greatest battle in that LB; and making himself an individual humanoid body) before even Jin Ke confronted him. The LB was dedicated to change Qin's Mind and you could see how it slowly happened by being in contact with Chaldea, and Guda in particular.

I'm not surprised Qin won the survey for male and female Valentines scene people were looking forward the most because it's rightfully one of the few MC/Servant relationships that actually gradually developed in the story and make sense for actual reasons that aren't just random fanservice/you remind me to someone. It's also one that works conceptually because Guda is mean to be ordinary but stepping up to the plate for this and thus the type of people that would counter Qin's mindset.

As someone who started with FGO as their first Nasuverse game, could you guys tell me why you dislike it?

>> No.20851294

>>20851247
It's vastly inferior to Nasu's old works that made me fall in love with Type-Moon in the first place, in just about every way I can think of. Despite this, it's taken the place of a "main project" for years, and is a core part of the universe and lore, instead of remaining a shitty phone game about Servants as it should've been. It attracted a legion of new fans who are only interested in seeing more trash like it, which gives Nasu more excuses to never put effort into making a new VN or a proper game, much less go back to his non-Fate properties (which was also part of the appeal of old TM, having a widespread universe that was not limited to or focused on Fate and its Servants). Even worse for these properties is how much of them is just getting absorbed into FGO, with alternate versions of their characters and old lore/ideas getting repurposed in a shitty game, as if this is the continuation people wanted for Tsukihime or Mahoyo.
Frankly, there's too much I dislike about FGO to talk about concisely. I guess the short version is, it doesn't have any of the stuff I liked in old TM works, and yet has grown to completely overtake the company despite that.

>> No.20851296

>>20851247
The storytelling is poor. The fact that you have random battles against trash mobs interrupting the story flow is boring. Guda being more bland than Sieg or Hakuno is boring. Mashu being bland is boring. The singularities prior to camelot are so lame it's astonishing. The ever-growing cast ensures every character is barely touched instead of made interesting, save some few.
I'm off to bed anyway, I'm too tired for a more detailed answer, sorry. But in definitive, you can't tell an as good story in a mobage than in a VN or even LN.

There's a lot of good ideas here and there, but the mobage format absolutely kills it.

Started reading the Fate/Zero light novel and why are the characters that are not Kirei/Gilgamesh so shit. They range from unappealing to ridiculous.

Irisiviel is such a passive bitch and she just does nothing and let's Kiritsugu or Saber to everything.
Saber just takes Rider's shit talk about her and doesn't retaliate back.
Ryuunosuke is a literal who serial killer with a faint line of Magus descent who doesn't give a shit about the HGW and gets off to killings.
Tokiomi is an S-tier shit Magus who does nothing but sit inside his house until Volume 3.
Kayneth is an arrogant asshole to Lancer and Waver.
Maiya is just there.
Waver is annoying because of his huge complex and bitches about Rider non stop.
Kariya's character is just NTR taken to the extreme and his only motive is to be with Aoi using "saving Sakura" as a proxy.
Rider is obnoxious with his talk of conquering the world and the descriptions of him don't make it any better.

I personally like to compare FGO with, say Dragon Ball Heroes.
The latter is what GO always should've been, a non-canon, non-serious cashcow which helps promote the actual good content being made in the proper mediums.
If GO was in a proper medium then it would never be as successful as it is now, but the ideas presented would be more fleshed out.
So either make it serious in a proper medium, or a mobage/arcade which is just there to fund other projects.

Of course this would diminish GO's popularity compared to what they actually did, but TM's overall content would be far more enjoyable than it is now.

He has literally never done anything "experimental". VNs with fleshed out plot and characters already existed. He simply rode the wave of popular urban fantasy mystery in lare 90s/early 2000s. Extra and CCC are just mediocre JRPGs, all FGO did was use a shitty gacha game (a medium that was already massively successful) to tell the story of a "main" Nasu work instead of ignoring the importance of plot, but all that accomplished was ruin said plot and the few good ideas it had. I guess FGO is the closest he's ever been to trying something truly unique, but not only is the result awful, I also think that's stretching the definition of "experimental" quite a bit.

It's really easy to say "Of course FGO would be popular! It's Fate!" but, as you said, there's a gorillion of other mobages from very well established and popular franchises that have been complete failures. People really underestimate how hard is to make a mobage stay afloat, for every one you see doing moderately well, there's a hundred that didn't go past it's first year. FGO reaching the level it reached, where it's made more money in 5 years than entire franchises have made in decades, it's completely abnormal and impossible to replicate phenomena. Maybe it was luck, maybe it came at the right time and the right place, and this is without taking into account how it managed to survive it's extremely super duper mega hyper BAD launch where as recently told in an interview DW were given a list of demands from TM that if not finished in 3 months they'd just shut down every fucking thing. It's impossible to explain accurately, FGO as a whole is greater than the sum of it's parts and it would still be greater even if the parts were multiplied rather than addition instead.

It’s a combination of having decent story and characters, waifu and legendary figures, decent gameplay, lack of crazy powercreep and nearly every servant being usable and being Fate.

Cause fuck, compare with Fire Emblem Heroes. Who will want to roll a character if you are going to have 10 copies of it to make it worthwhile and said perfect unit will be useless next batch? That will obviously turn people down. So then it won’t matter if the game has 10% chance of you to roll him because now the actual chance is 0.000001% or even less for you to make him temporerily usable in the PVP, while the 0.7% of FGO seems much more generous in comparison
Then in FGO you will have wrird situations regardless of rarity with people charmlocking the Part 1 final boss with Mata Hari (the lowest rarity female in the game) or beating difficult Challenge Quests with Spartacus. It’s like: hey, you know this legendary figure you idolized as a kid or historical figure you love so much? You can play with him. You can beat shit with him even with all the other options available. Even if you have Gilgamesh on the top there, the others aren’t useless by default.
And then no other mobage on the planet has a plot that can compete. Hell, it beats a bunch of LNs by a mile while at it. And then they will take advantage of the story to showcase this newly introducted servant in the game, wank it to hell, he will do cool shit, either help you or face you as an enemy and he will be super loyal to whoever he works for and a really nice guy and BAM! People will want to summon him. Or then there will be an event dedicated to them giving the player presents and many of the characters will participate etc. and then you get it.
Before you notice, libraries in Japan are now placing pictures of FGO servants in the stores in front of specific books because people are interested in them, Izou’s books are all sold out in bookstore, this also promotes shit further and FGO hit jackpot.

Art is a pretty huge factor in mobage success as well, one that's commonly underestimated. Does anyone remember the rumors floating around back when Kancolle was king? The ones about various artists being paid to make porn of the Kantai characters? Anyway, aside from that aside, FGO's snowball of a success can be attributed to - at least in part - the sheer amount of artists making content for it, officially and unofficially. Every artist wants to be involved in making FGO content; not because they care about it or the characters they're drawing - just take a look at any of their doujins and you'll often find that the characters are so off the mark as to be embarrassing - but because it's guaranteed success. People spread those products like fire, which introduces more people to FGO, which introduces more people to the artwork of FGO, which introduces more people to more artists, in an endless loop. A very oft held sentiment for Kantai years ago was, "Yeah, it's shit. But the porn is good so I play it for the context of my masturbation." You hear this all the time with FGO these days as well, even if you don't play the game, so long as you follow a few artists out there and consume/share their work for FGO, you are a cog in the wheel of FGO's great advertisement.

Though honestly, on the mean, I think FGO's design work is seriously lacking. Still, fanartists can do some pretty incredible things even with mediocre designs. Lots of talent out there.

Yeah, that's my point. Fate isn't that widely popular franchise either as say Dragon Ball, and a lot more popular franchise mobages out there and zero, and nada, and what became popular isn't "Fate franchise" but FGO as brand which in turn also gave Fate more visibility.
In the recent survey revealed around 20% maybe less of the current players were first-year players (2015) which are probably the "Fate franchise fanbase."

Speaking of hit and miss in the franchise: And I don't feel Extra spinoffs no matter how Nasu tries to shill it and rewrite it a thousand times and make Hakuno get his harem forever as king of the moon as a Kirito esque self insert, Extra would never be even as 0.9% popular as FGO or FSN even because the themes of Extras aren't simply... as palatable?
The history journey, and value of humanity of FGO, and the straightforward conflict of ideals vs personal happiness in FSN are far more attractive than the messy clusterfuck of Extra themes and concepts and even more fucked up and unattractive Extella. The Extra characters didn't even get as popular until they featured in FGO.

Nasu doesn't seem to know what to do to repeat his miracle, the more modest one with FSN back a decade ago, and the huge mass success of FGO.

I don't think they can recreate successes. Extra (first game) was like a FSN clone (in the MOON!!) even with blatant cloned/sameface or nostalgia Main Servants (like Emiya) of FSN on the main cast. That was their attempt to make a new success but now Sci Fi out FSN with other themes. I mean is not a flop but wasn't a hit either. Extella bit more popularity rides on FGO popularity (was released when FGO had began to be the ITT game).

FGO tried the same a bit with Fuyuki to call nostalgia-fags in that (with Saber, who does fuck all, on the game apk), but since the release of the game, all main chaldea cast were completely new. Instead of hurting FGO, it actually helped it IMO. Because people expected something new and consumed it for that not because they'll get FSN mobage. As long they don't start to clone Mashu next it'll be ok.

FSN wasn't really that much of a miracle, IMO. It was the commercial followup to the already massively popular doujin Tsukihime, which itself came from nothing. Even the anime had among the best DVD sales of the decade. Didn't the original KnK doujin sell like 7 copies or something?

Furthermore, it was still during the VN boom and FSN was hugely innovative, had extraordinary production values for the time, and can be sold to someone in four words: mythological heroes battle royale. Same with the character designs. The success of Nasu's work has largely come down to the changes Takeuchi has had Nasu make to his vision, and working in the most popular mediums of the time is the biggest part of that. I'm pretty sure Nasu has always been the creative guy with no idea what he's doing.

This is well known at this point. Hell, we wouldn't even be here talking about how TM is dead if not for Takeuchi telling Nasu "No, that's retarded, re-write your otome fantasies into something with a male protagonist and make King Arthur a cute girl because otherwise we won't sell".
Nasu is your typical creative guy who goes full retard without someone to rein him in. Takeuchi really deserves a lot more credit than he gets, even if all he does now is count his gorillions and same-face/body/pose all he draws now and still can't draw a fucking ass that is not flatter than a table.

Touhou's boom was in the 00, the industry was nowhere as big nor as specialized, nor was the internet or social media as developed as it is now, you have to take this into consideration when thinking about how much stuff, official and fanmade, gets churned out of FGO.
