2079079 No.2079079 [Reply] [Original]

So how come Touhou is becoming more mainstream to the common anime fan thesedays? Just the other day in my accounting class, the professor was lecturing about the Sarbanes Oxley act and got to the part about internal controls to stop managers and execs from stealing from the company. This fucking Filipino with a death note wrist band chimes in with "Would you say this happened because someone at Enron stole the precious thing?" And the professor was like...wtf precious thing, and says yeah something like that. Then the fucking flip starts giggling and turns over to a white weeaboo friend and says "Marisa probably worked at Enron". I was just trying not to kill them. How the fuck did Touhou get THAT popular?

>How the fuck did Touhou get THAT popular?
I know, Touhou is very popular nowadays. I'm surprised they still haven't released it in America. Every Touhou video I watched on jewtube received 300,000+ views. Touhou is so popular in Japan that it sold 2M units. And since ZUN didn't have to pay royalties to any publishers he received every single dime. Last time I saw him he was living in a giant 3 story mansion. He doesn't even manage his blog/website any more because he has other people do it for him. Though the person that's currently operating the website fails at html. Hence the reason why there's been an error on the front page for months now. http://www16.big.or.jp/~zun/

><img src="http://www16.big.or.jp/~zun/image/banner.gif" width=200 height=40>

On Touhou's first month it sold 300k units. That's 3 times as successful as any of Taito's current games. Hell, if ZUN wanted to, he could buy Taito. But I think there's some jealousy going on. I've heard of one unpopular game in Japan that only managed to sell 50 thousand units yet they marketed it over seas. Why is it that Touhou (a game that sold millions of units) is not getting marketed outside of Japan. If Touhou sold millions in Japan, who's to say it wont do the same over here? It's almost as if they don't think Touhou will sell. It's almost as if they dont want money....

>> No.2079237

I'll sometimes reference touhou when talking to friends or people who I would think would know of touhou. However, no one I've met has heard of touhou.

I first heard of it through music choice in smash videos, which most people I know of seen but not expressed an interest.

No, you don't have to like it.

But I would like it if somebody would play RGB Bound X with me again ;_;

>>2079206
I think you should probably add some spice to the story. It's far too short, and really lacking in content. Perhaps you could include some kind of battle? Maybe add a humorous anecdote? That would at least be more interesting. If you're going to keep telling it you might as well make it entertaining.

>> No.2079252

ZUN isn't making the games for the money. He's making them because he likes making them.

The whole point of Touhou is that it is not commercialized so only "hardcore" people who are truly interested will bother to look it up. That's how the fanbase is so hax. Because of that the fanbase is very productive and appears much larger than it actually is. Anyways, I doubt it could do well in America because it would have no mainstream marketing tactic, is way to foreign for most buyers, and lacks the constant action required by today's youth.
