What has made you think about quitting Japanese?
For me it was the weaaboo cringe compilations on youtube, all the weaaboos in general, the retards using memes and phrases taken from anime and using them wrong, the people that said it sounded like Spanish ( which it doesn't) I had to spend hours researching about Japanese phonetics and found out that all the vowels while being similar are slightly different from Spanish with the "u" being very different and plus Spanish doesnot have long vowels and neither does it have the h,z,v,w,tsu, tzu,sh,j,dji sounds + it doesnt have double consonants nor does it have pitch accent and I might be forgetting about other stuff, the people that say it sounds like spanish are retards that have only studied spanish such as burgers and bongs or spanish speakers themselves. What they should actually be saying is that it is a flat language Swahili is also a flat language yet no one compares it with filthy Spanish but the thing that has made me want to quit the language the most was seeing a disgusting tranny speaking it on a youtube documentary also some stupid green haired weaaboo bitch that appeared on one of yutas videos and a stupid cunt that has a youtube channel and speakss like 10 languages once started talking japanese in the most disgusting manner ever like if she was trying to seem cutesyn or wathever but it was insuferable and revolting. Women should not be allowed to learn Japanese my blood boils with rage whenever I see a non asian woman saying she is learning that language.

I can't possibly be the only person who is creeped out by this stuff: There is a whole verb in Japanese which, when appended to the stem form of any other verb, allows you to express the opposite of that verb without having to use its negative form.

Maybe that description didn't make much sense. It's like, append the positive form of this verb to the end of the stem of the verb in the sentence "It's possible to do that", and you can make the sentence mean "It's not possible to do that." Though since verbs end the sentences in Japan, it's more like "Yes, we can do that for you — NOTTTTTT." I mean, how is that "polite"? How is that the way to deal with people in business? Do people feel really great whenever they use that in a professional conversation? Do they feel like they just scored a four-hit combo in Street Fighter IV?

people hear "output doesn't matter" and assume this means they can still be considered good even if they can't speak or write for shit, but that's not the case, it strictly means you don't necessarily *need* to output to get to a good level with the langauge
once you actually do get to a good level with the language, whether you made a significant amount of output doing it or not, you absolutely will be able to apply your language ability, you aren't going to be soseki but you definitely will be able to tell when the て form is correct for what you want to say as opposed to the 連用形, and this is because you have an intuitive comprehension that goes beyond what you can find in a grammar book of what these two forms mean and how they differ

dictionaries and grammar guides are all secondhand information, but even people who stress the importance of reading on DJT recommend that people use dictionaries and grammar guides.

why? because it makes stuff more comprehensible. what you're arguing is that there's a threshold you cross where it's better to refine your understanding through input than to rely on english explanations/approximations, which i think everyone here agrees with. but you think reading up on the difference between masu and te crosses that threshold for some reason.

Idol twitter is the last stage of japanese learning. Mix of kana/hiragana/emoji/kanji/engrish/emoticons, made up words, sometimes they write words in opposite order just because. You also need to be a mind reader because they just don't give enough context. Even the natives don't understand it, you can see it from the replies they give. Only saving grace is that the topics are often quite simple like telling their salaryman followers to do their best and reminding them about the birthday.

you'll hear two different opinions on this one.
one side will say you are basically doing reading practice and that it fools you into thinking your listening comprehension is higher than it really is. this is provable by testing comprehension with subs on and then turning them off and seeing how much you can understand.
the other side will say more comprehension is better since comprehensible input and i+1 language is how you acquire language so anything that makes it more comprehensible is worth it.
personally i don't like to read while watching stuff so i only watch unsubbed materials so i can focus on the visuals and audio.

I dropped subs. I've been watching umaru chan, the danmachi spinoff, and Macross. And damn is Macross difficult. Between the echo-y audio and the technical vocabulary, some episodes I feel like I'm at maybe 50% overall comprehension. Whereas with umaru chan I'm easily over 90, and the danmachi show also pretty high like over 80. He's talking about the nuances of animation and how to create character acting that doesn't seem like acting. "Don't make them move, but don't make them stop either." "How do we invoke a sense of realism with that?" "Should we just make it a work entirely about people?" Googling the full source gives context for the last sentence and the full statement; he's talking about a specific movie where he paid a lot of attention to the character acting with the characters on the ground and didn't really care about the battles in the air: https://twitter.com/i/moments/1090957633794715653
