Money definitely complicates things. But I don't think it vastly influences your opinion. It may strengthen it, but that's it. A shit game you didn't pay for, you may just forget quickly and never really talk about. A shit game you paid a lot for, you remember and probably write a big rant somewhere on the internet. Paying won't make it magically good. It may make you stick with the whole thing longer than someone with less "investment" though, which sometimes can be good or bad.

People won't buy things they know they won't like. So a guy who buys a generic ensemble game, wanting a generic ensemble game, will give it 5 stars. Thus his opinion is worthless.

Because they know they will most likely like it before purchase, as eroge is really fucking expensive and if the person in question isn't rich, they have to carefully consider whether to spend money on it or not. The chance of someone pirating and playing stuff they know they will 100% like exists as well, but those people are obviously rarer. This wasn't very good. The main girls are kinda okay, which already leads to plenty of flat out boring/uninteresting stuff as they have trouble carrying the slice of life. What ruins this however is the utterly horrible side-character that appears way too much and is just fucking annoying. For whatever reason she is also a major part of the "main story" at the end of each part, which was probably the dumbest idea they could have. As such, the newly added content is pretty much completely worthless as well.

I suppose you could say, that for a yuri work it's kinda okay, but even the snoozefest of Rainbow Stage is probably a better choice, given that it has no utterly terrible character. Kimihane definitely wins with scenes of just the main trio, but how much is that worth?

For future reference/anyone who needs to know this: control panel > clock and region, click on region, go to adminstrative, change system locale in non-unicode programs to Japanese.

It was okay. Lots of great, funny lines (Especially from Hakua) but suffers from being a moege. Story kept repeating itself between routes, or sometimes they just made up some dumb drama (like in Kanon's route, which honestly felt like it was added on after the game was done) and then tacked on 復元細胞 to the end.

Finished Risa's route, had an amazing time. Risa was hilarious her theme music fit so well as well. The route was great, the drama was minimal, quick and not retarded, the lovey stuff was great and the ending was great there isn't much more I can ask from it. The vn in general had a pretty stock standard setting but the comedy and characters were great. Been a little while since experienced the post vn depression, but I'm really feeling it now, especially after I just went to close the vn I got a Risa voice line saying to meet again tomorrow. Seriously going to miss it.

On another note what are asa project's other vns like? If they are half as good as this was they could be worth reading. Their newest one looks vaguely interesting as well as two others.

Ren0 has exactly 2 routes worth reading and that are actually good but the common route is great.
Sankaku renai is pretty bland.

Most titty monsters are either the result of the "pile as many conventinally attractive traits on it as possible" design, which pretty much only produces cookie cutter housewife/heroine #44485901, or a shallow as hell character that relies solely on sex appeal to sell. The latter is especially rampant in non-eroge.
It looks like by establishing a character with a flaw (for example, being flat) writers have a higher tendency to go through with less safe and more interesting personalities.

Eh. I think it's decent but nothing close to groundbreaking. My biggest gripe was that the final boss was pretty much beaten by an asspull. Hell the second half had quite a bit of "it's magic I ain't gotta explain shit" moments but it was still entertaining enough, I suppose.
If you're struggling to get through the first half just finish one route then grab a savefile and jump straight into the second half. You won't miss out on too much.
Also there better be an FD with a Yuumi route. She deserves it. Harem route wouldn't hurt either.

Is Summer pockets the best looking VN ever? The CEs are all fantastic, I can't think of any other title with such consistently high quality

Very late to the party, but played through YU-NO. Overall a pretty enjoyable ride and it managed to keep my attention throughout the entire experience, which is much more than I can say about the vast majority of games.

For me the game definitely peaked in Mio route. Ayumi acted like a complete moron throughout her route and the fact that the majority of drama could’ve been solved at any time by the protagonist doing the obvious thing left a bad aftertaste, Mitsuki simply didn’t stand out that much as a heroine even if the route itself had interesting mystery solving parts, while Kanna’s central sob story felt very cheap that didn’t have much to do with the main plot, despite my initial expectations for her route. Kaori’s route was so short it’s hard to call it a route. Mio’s route on the other hand was backed by her always entertaining chemistry with the protagonist and also the character herself feeling like an active participant in the story rather than a helpless uncooperating drama magnet, while also having interesting main plot stuff throughout. It felt the most satisfying when coming to puzzles and general gameplay as well.

Production values wise the game is pretty damn solid and there's plenty of CGs even for very short events, though there's often some jarring variation in how characters look in CGs versus how they usually look in sprites. Speaking of sprites in general, two of them stood out as outright horrible, namely Kaori simply due to how low quality she looks with those huge bug eyes and adult-sized Yuno not fitting her voice in the slightest: she looks like a fucking amazon in the sprite while sounding like a kid just as before. Maybe if the game kept up the emotionless brainwashing thing for longer, but it’s dropped almost instantly and even the plot itself seems to completely forget about it being a supposed requirement for the miko.

True route starts out extremely silly and while I actually liked how the game foreshadowed the 異世界 stuff and the sudden switcheroo is a great whammy, the game ups the silliness factor too far later on by raising the stakes even higher from the previous, more down-the-earth motivation of simply finding answers / Koudai’s whereabouts to yet another world saving plot along with a somewhat boring main antagonist who didn’t end up getting characterized that much more from what the previous routes had already revealed. Greatly disappointed in that regard. Suddenly getting an almost completely new main cast was also somewhat janky and I honestly couldn’t really get invested into them as much as I hoped for that reason. Perhaps the game could’ve paced it better in the main part through flashforwards, or balancing the length of main part and true route so the player could also get invested into latter or something else, I don’t know. Most of the time I felt I couldn’t really give a fuck, especially when it came to the supposedly tragic side character deaths.

Gameplay wise I really liked the main system since it gives you a clear goal to strive towards from the very start and lets you loose without handholding. Getting those fucking gems was what always kept me going further. Using the obviously important locked room at the start as a constant carrot in the stick also worked wonders. I’m not sure what to think about the limited save system, since getting some key items again from other routes in case you end up fucking up is very a painful drudge, while on the other hand it also makes finally getting your hand on those gems feel more rewarding since it helps exploration. While it’s justified in story, I sometimes wished the game would’ve just let the player scene select freely to reduce the amount of needless skipping they have to do. Luckily I ended up abusing hard saves every now and then as well for points where you may end up using a key item, since soft saves won’t help you with those. Map functionality could’ve also been improved by the game showing the name of scenes and their triggers or something since it’s easy to forget which actions lead to which paths and scenes, often resulting in more needless retreading and skipping. Overall I was expecting some really janky and obtuse shit but the game is actually pretty playable even when diving into it blind, which is helped by the map always showing unexplored branches and UI warning when a branch is near.

Finished the Claudia routes in Phantom Integration. I liked it. The characters were all interesting, and the story kept moving at a nice pace all throughout.

I'm still a bit confused about how the night with the Gotos was arranged. I understood that Lizzy was upset that Claudia didn't give a damn about whether or not the japs lived or died, but I don't get how the first night at the harbor was arranged. Claudia set the Japs up with a deal and Saisu master set the phantoms against the whole thing: this is Claudia's version. Was it all just a ploy to remove Saisu master from Inferno? Did I miss something, or was this night not completely explained?

It was pretty hard to understand what Claudia was thinking of doing with each of her moves, but I guess the point is that she was a deceitful woman who always acted to her own advantage instead of upholding some sort of ideal. So maybe she was inviting the Gotos just so she could use them as another "piece on the board", actually admitting them to Inferno if possible, sacrificing them if needed. Seems to me like her philosophy was just to go straight ahead all the time, as the protag thinks to himself in the tunnel. As if she didn't really plan everything, but she just made the best of every situation.

Also, I never understood why some men are so obsessed with guns (just like how I don't understand why some women are so obsessed with horses), yet this game managed to make guns cool to me, and now I want to shoot one.
