I like Kohaku's because it actually works with her character arc. There's more going on there than with most of the other H-scenes.

The fandisc's have decent H by comparison as well. Likely because I don't think (most) of them were written by Nasu. I've heard some people say Takeuchi wrote the H-scenes - I'm not sure whether or not that's from an interview, but since I haven't seen a source I'm taking it with a grain of salt. Even if it were actually stated by Nasu or Takeuchi, I don't think I'd believe it. Because a lot of the H-scenes that are written into Tsukihime/Fate are derivative of Nasu's rape/cuckolding/treating girl's like trash fetish which appears in even his non-H writings.

To sell more units to horny teenagers, allegedly. But honestly I have mixed ideas on that. It's Nasu's and Takeuchi's excuse, but it's less like, "we added H-scenes so horny teenagers would buy it" and more like, "we added H-scenes to enter the eroge market." The eroge market was, at the time, still growing and immature - early mediums are usually the most susceptible to new, aspiring authors, which Nasu was. iirc he had already been rejected by more traditional mediums. So, entering the eroge market was more a practical decision on their part - they could make their mark on easily impressionable young adults by providing a lore-rich and character driven story in a new medium, which was hungry for such titles. Nasu and Takeuchi like to act as if the H-scenes themselves were forced upon them, but in my opinion they were far more opportunistic about this than they let on. Nasu, in all likelyhood - especially evident after reading a few interviews - never cared for eroge. Hence why he ditched it as soon as he got famous enough. He always wanted to make video games, not visual novels.

I do think that if they had entered into the visual novel market 10 years later they would have done just fine. But, yes, back then, it was expected of visual novels to have some ero. That being said I doubt anyone actually bought it for the H - they bought it because they were eroge fans. There's a difference.

If people wanted a wank back then there are so many better titles to choose from, Takeuchi's art was trash back then as it is now, and none of the CGs look any good at all, even for the era.

P.S. Yes, I know visual novels =/= eroge, but, at the time, the two were basically synonymous, since it was eroge where most of the innovation in the visual novel medium was taking place.

How the fuck would a Sacchin route even work in the context of Tsukihime R, anyways? In the original, all of the routes eventually lead up to Hisui's route's reveal of Kohaku being the ""big bad"", where then it's all supposed to end with the "secret" Kohaku route, which they all lead up to. Then there's the epilogue, I guess. Works fine, but then how does Sacchin get added onto it? Would she just get slotted in between Ciel and Akiha? But she was planned to be the new content, so wouldn't it be weird to not end on her? But then you screw up the Kohaku twist.

So how involved was kohaku in the near side of the moon routes? I remember there was a bad end where kohaku is to "escort you home" only for shiki to be killed by Roa in school, which always made me very suspicious of her. I'm sorry, does Roa even exist in the far side? The killings in the town seem to have really nothing to do with vampirism at all but rather SHIKI's inversion here. I suppose this will make more sense as I proceed

Well I don't see how this is incriminating at all, it should be a servant's duty to make sure their master's crimes go unnoticed. Though the fact that she just *happens* to be showing up at these places was always suspicious, and in most works of fictions it is a big red flag for villains.

The movie is empty aside from the action. The character acting is weak, even though HF is all about its characters, not battles. There are a lot of pointless scenes that don't convey anything and just fill the screentime. It's a crime for a high-profile movie.
I'm being too harsh, the no movie isn't bad but I expected something much more ambitious and memorable. The ordinary direction doesn't perfectly capture HF's craziness.

i have mixed feelings on the narration. i don't think it's overtly biased against Sakura - at least from memory - but i also think that there were some framing issues and it could have been less dry at times. the truth is Sakura did plenty wrong, but we can sympathize due to her tragic upbringing and present circumstances. it's the same for Kohaku, but i think the latter was more likable because of how unrelatable and inhuman she had become; it's more entertaining to read. writing a victim character (like Sakura) that is simultaneously relatable and down-to-earth in their humanity is harder, because it makes people feel more complex emotions, ones which will likely cause polarization. victim characters in literature are often the most liked/disliked precisely because of this. and, the more human/relatable they are, the more the reader will internalize the situation, which, often, causes a make-or-break situation in the reader's mind insofar as the character is concerned. just as one reader will internalize the situation and think Sakura is incompetent, you will get another that thinks the opposite. it's a difficult situation.
