Spoilers for the Next Box prologue:
Character intro sign frames start appearing behind the characters.
It turns out the ley lines have been overburdened, so history/data has been leaking out.
Most of it will just settle down on its own, but there is a risk of some data being destroyed and thus the events would be erased from everyone's memories.
Musashi must go around finding and reviewing (or "Girls Talk-ing") the escaped data to make sure none of it is lost.

I won't have time to read the Edge one until tomorrow.

Nice.
Though I'm still somewhat confused by how all-out they're going on promoting the franchise now. On the one hand it does feel like they're gauging interest for a new something-or-other animated Horizon thing, but on the other we all know how unlikely that is.
It just feels weird to me that they started planning for this years ago, got the old staff back together and went through the trouble of god knows how much new design work for a 12 minute novel commercial where the screentime of characters is often measured in seconds.

Okay, here's a summary of the Edge series, On a Godless Planet, so far:
After dying almost immediately in a new VR game, a boy named Sumeragi Izumi wakes up in his school dorm in the year 1990.
He meets a busty senpai who is moving in next door.
He gets called to the Game Club by a girl named Shinobu Saki and a boy named Raidou Tetsu, who are an item.
They were playing the VR game with him and explain that he died so quickly because he is a human while they are gods.
An intellectual girl named Kuwajiri Tsubomi and the bald club leader named Yomoji Shinsei are also there.
To help with the game, Yomoji sends him to the library to study.
In the library, he meets a foreign-looking girl on the library committee named Kubiko Scarecrow and the head of the library committee named Yagokoro Omoikane.
They tell him the object of the game is terraforming and that he chose a god to assist him in the game, although he doesn't remember doing so.
After returning to his dorm and deciding to play the VR game again, the senpai next door appears and explains that she is the god whose duty it is to assist him in playing the game. When he asks for her name, she is reluctant to tell him so she doesn't.
Inside the game, an AI named Balancer explains what's really going on.
The "game" is the real world and the current year is 3203. The 1990 Earth world Sumeragi through was real is a "divine world" created for all the various gods to live in. Everyone Sumeragi met there was a god and he is the only human.
Due to unspecified reasons, humanity had to leave Earth and move to another habitable planet. They were put into cold sleep and left the AI in charge.
When they arrived at the system to terraform it, the AI found formless spirits on the planet that resisted the terraforming.
Much to the AI's surprise, the terraforming devices that people had attached Shinto good luck charms to lasted longer against the resisting spirits.
After much experimentation, they discovered that Earth's religions are different "filters" that people used to receive power from the ley lines, so they managed to recreate the "molds" of the various gods to extract those gods as data entities.
By applying those "molds" of the gods to the ley lines of those "godless" planets and by recreating the legends of those gods, they can stabilize the ley lines and make the planets habitable for human life. The process can be called Divine Terraforming.
Having a human like Sumeragi around is useful because being worshiped by humans gives the gods more power, but when asked why he alone was awoken from cold sleep, Balancer refuses to answer at the moment.

I don't really know, but Dengeki has started a label to give LN releases to their web releases, so this might be a part of that.

>> No.20459531

>>20459512
I sense this is the beginning of something excellent.

It's a bit of a surprise — I thought we would get humanity's journey to the stars for the 1st Edge, not the process of terraforming the planet, but Kawakami does seem to like scenarios where we know things don't work out perfectly in the end.

The process of saving the world in Genesis didn't prevent Obstacle from happening. Similarly, we already know that the terraforming will go wrong in Edge, since when humanity returns to Earth in Genesis only the Divine States are habitable.

OnC just opened the path for everyone in the world to evolve after releasing the concepts.

>> No.20481271

I still don't know what to think. It was nice but way too short.
It somehow feels too disjointed to be actually made like that.
Plus they did all those designs for characters that appear on screen for seconds and probably killed a dozen animators with that transformation sequence.
Considering that they started planning for this years ago it's either the most thoroughly designed fanservice or actually just a PV of something as the name suggests. If anything it would be a movie or two adapting the more important parts of 10 and 11 since movies seem to be the popular thing to do lately.
I know I'm removed from reality here, but I can't really accept that after all the promotion for the end of the books and them bothering to make a boxed release in the first place this has been 'it'.

@js06 If you have too much time on your hands, can you take a look at the recording of October's promo event with Kawakami on special disc 3? In the part starting at 39:05 he says something about why they called it XXI.

>> No.20481288

>>20481271
Yeah, I really agree. It's strange that something like this — just a collection of loose snippets — would even be made at all. It's too much to just be fanservice.

>Really makes you wonder why they would go through all this trouble just for a PV though

2 reasons:
1) Most of the time anything that's anime related is created to promote another product and increase sales of it, in this case the BD-BOX and the last volume, both coming out in the same month.
2) Because as >>20502260 said, it was made long ago but it was a better investment selling the first 2 seasons again while using the OVA as promo material instead of going through the entire pain in the ass and investment of a new season, which involves the insecurity of "what if this flops?"

The thing is this OVA did the job, the BD-BOX sold until ran out of stock, same happened with the entire collection of all volumes so you can say that was a good marketing desicion and not one that was made to please the fans, is evident in the fact that the Ova was just shitty 12 minutes instead of a full blown standard Ova that is aprox 25 mins.

That being said, starting with the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 the French do abysmally in battle. The German Empire is literally founded at Versailles Palace right outside Paris — if that isn't an epic humiliation, nothing is.

Be ready to read a LOT. But don't be discouraged by the sheer amount of text, it's actually quite easy to read and despite the amount of pages it stays true to the concept of "Light" Novel.

I recommend reading Owari no Chronicle first because:
1) it was published before Horizon
2) it's fully translated
3) helps complement Horizon's lore

After finishing OnC, then move onto Horizon up to the last translation and then either wait for translation to advance or read js06's summaries up until the end (while waiting for translation). Also read Hexennacht (fully translated), CITY (partially translated) and Horizon Kimitoasamade (fully translated).

Rewatching the anime before starting to read Horizon is also a good idea, since it's a good adaptation imo.

They're not recycled, in fact something you probably don't know is that people got this idea from what sayama did as the last concept, making everyone think that they resurrected in the future.

From a writing standpoint there are just a few characters that are similar but saying recycled is wrong on so many levels, especially because you're adding every title on this bucket.

I just finished the BD Box bonus novel. It didn't have anything too spoiler-ish, but I'll spoiler the summary anyway.

Musashi and Hashiba look back at the events of Vol. 1, showing things from different points of view than what was recorded in the "official records" (i.e. the original novel).
This included from the Speers POV, which showed they actually put together a plan to swoop in and rescue Toori since they didn't want him to die. They tried to come up with a plan to save Horizon too, but they couldn't come up with anything feasible and decided to leave that in Oriotri's hands.
They ended up calling off the Toori rescue plan when they realized Class Plum was moving much faster than expected (due to their training from Oriotri) and would actually arrive in time to save Horizon.
The retelling of the opening training scene with Oriotri included some parts that Kawakami had cut from Vol. 1 because it was getting too long (did he actually listen to his editor back then?) but were included in the anime.

This put me in a Horizon mood, so expect some Horizon translations this weekend.

>> No.20514436

>>20514137
I want to know something, the age of the Speers is around the same as class plum right? if that's the case then how old is oriotri?

For some reason she always felt a bit older than most students, i'd say like in her 20's. Another detail that is missing from the summaries is the origin of Oriotri, we know that she was born from the mix of the DNA of Horizon and Toori and that Kimi was the surrogate mother but how did she came to this timeline and what was her relationship with the Speers?

Thanks for the summary!

You shouldn't do that, if anyone wants to get into this then they should get their asses into the LN, read it from the first to the last page of each volume.

Summaries that aren't provided by Js06 do more damage than good, especially because the people who only read the summaries instead of the LN always get the wrong idea or take every detail out of context because they don't get what's going on. Remember that some threads ago we got a few tourists here that only read the summaries believing that was enough and at the end of the day the didn't understood shit because of that.

Same story happened with anime-only viewers who didn't understood anything and were begging for summaries and still didn't understood shit.

You're better off starting from 1-A since the anime skipped most 'non-essential' events and dialogue.
You could start with 3-A if you really wanted to but I wouldn't recommend it. Plus being able to link the novel descriptions of fights to something you've just seen might help you better visualize stuff from vol. 3 onwards since Kawakami has a rather detailed way of writing them.
