I never planned anything for me to do after high school so I ended up being a NEET up until my parents forced me to either get a job or get out. I got a job, did that for a year and quit. Not soon after my parents were angry with me again, but this time I had a third option.

Community college!

It seemed easy enough. Do some papers, spend no more than four hours a day in class, this will be simple! But, no. I ended up putting off schoolwork, skipping a class every other day, and by the end of the semester I realized that I was going to fail half of my classes; I was far past the point of no return.

My parents were disappointed. Their eldest son; a failure! At least they've left me alone since then; well, that was until the other night. My mother mentioned to me I need to get a job or go back to school.

I can only hope next time will be better. I only wish I knew what I wanted to do with my life.

Younger gets more attention - but people of all ages go to college (especially in the older rather than younger range) so the older ones don't really matter as it's kind of normal - while a younger than usual kid means, to most people, oh wow that fucker is smart he graduated early!

Which might not be true, but it's more attention grabbing then people who just didn't continue/do college at 18 for 4 years and be done with it.

more $ = worth it
A 4-year college grads usually make $500k more than high school grads in their lifetime. High school = around 500k, 4-year = around 1mil, masters = around 1.35mil(not sure on this one), Ph.D/doctorate = around 2 mil

college may not add anything to you as a person, but the society sure thinks so.

For various reasons she isn't cut out for college (even though she's smart), and at least she tried multiple times to meet the expectations of my parents.
