If there's a video I'd be willing to bet you could tell by my bearing but yes, camera guy is me. I explored around YOS for about two hours, weather was perfect. Aizu-Wakamatsu though was surreal, seeing the real platform, the signs and recognizing the uniforms the girls were wearing. I was incredibly impressed by the feel of the town, too. Not often that something like that lives up to the imagination. Hopefully the pictures turn out well, not many from AW since it was dark by then, though.

Sorry guys, not going to share any more unless it's youtube streams or other externally hosted stuff.
Knocking IP cameras offline is just too easy, most of the common cheap ones aren't made to handle more then 3-5 viewers anyway.

I've actually been playing with that idea. You create "rooms" with a stream and then the viewers just watch a rebroadcast. Though I feel I as the "owner" of the site could get in some shit... I know what you people do(well at least the ones that allow us to not have nice things)...

I mean, you could also restream it to another platform like youtube(super easy in ffmpeg) for example.

>I've actually been playing with that idea. You create "rooms" with a stream and then the viewers just watch a rebroadcast. Though I feel I as the "owner" of the site could get in some shit...
Same here.
There used to be a prank call group on tinychat that would call locations they found on livestreams and cameras, once they started to draw attention to themselves they got into some shit. This would ofc be a lot different but i feel like whoever is hosting it would still be taking some risks otherwise i would have already done it.
It's sometimes hard to tell if a camera is online intentionally or just because the guy installing it was an idiot and didn't set up access security, and the owner might not like having it rebroadcast elsewhere even if it is intentional.

>I know what you people do(well at least the ones that allow us to not have nice things)...
I used to be one of those people to some degree, so i think i know what you mean.

>I mean, you could also restream it to another platform like youtube(super easy in ffmpeg) for example.
That was my first thought too, but it's a pain to setup that in anyway that isn't super easy to have traced back to you these days when google requires phone activation for everything.
Also i don't have any hardware i could run 24/7 for it at the moment.

Looks like the camera is up again, but it cuts out every once in a while.
Might actually be the snowfall that is fucking with it, in my experience most internet service in rural mountain areas in Japan seem to be some sort of wireless links or cellphone service.

I found the camera is linked on their website, so they obviously expect people to watch it.
Guess there isn't really any point trying to keep it secret.

>>20295687
Yeah, being comfy sure beats feeling like you are at war with the whole rest of the internet all the time.
These days all i really want is a good cup of coffee and some nice camera streams to look through.

And i still get to look up cameras and play OSINT detective in locating them on google maps and streetview, which is what i really liked to begin with.
Just without the paranoia of having to keep up security 24/7 or risk getting doxed by one of your online "co-workers" over some petty shit or getting vanned for finding the wrong camera (or other weird internet connected shit) in places that shouldn't be connected to the internet in the first place.

What type of raw file sizes are you getting when recording a whole day and how do you handle the hourly stream drops?

>> No.20391988

* Raw stream for 24 hours is about 10GB. Semi-recent, I switched it down to 500kbps so it's now only about 5GB(including sped up video). I've been meaning to test to see if I can get away with 250kbps for even smaller files.

* Yeah, the random stream drops was an issue. I wrote a simple bash script that just loops over a while loop with ffmpeg inside for 24 hours(starting midnight JST). After 24 hours it breaks the while loop and stops ffmpeg from recording the current stream. Then it concats/speeds up the video. After that it uploads it to youtube.

I've been meaning to share it so people could use it with other streams if they wanted.

In my experience it is almost imposible to tell the difference between 250 and 500 kbps in 640x480, unless there are very much small details that are constantly moving.
But i am far from a video quality guru so what do i know.

>I am finding it hard to find a good compromise between high speed and being able to see what is going on with details.
This is why I ended up never posting my 6 hour timelapse of typhoon footage from the Owato Hotel camera, simply because rendering it and squashing it into a ~30 second webm that still fits 4chan's archaic upload limit ended up losing all that made it interesting to watch. Same reason I did not upload (like promised) the construction of the Okinawa cafe wall - the construction itself was going very slowly and delayed by days of rain, so it wouldn't have been a proper capture.
It's sad but necessary to kinda trim out the bulk of footage when nothing is happening, and maybe host it on streamable instead.

>> No.20434001

>>20433438
I am thinking the sweet spot is around 30-40x speed, comes out to about 20 minutes for 10-12 hours.
At that speed you can still make out details and things don't just turn into a blur, i find that there is no real point in recording a rail crossing or station if you can barely make out the trains as they zip by for a fraction of a second.
And with uploading to youtube there is also the 2x speed setting if you just want to watch the changing scenery, i have found watching changing clouds and weather to be surprisingly interesting recently.

In the end i just do these videos for my own entertainment, but i am open to suggestions from others if they are interested in more videos.
The main problem i am having right now is that i have a 6h restriction on youtube streams with streamlink before they drop, so for longer recordings i have to time it so i can be at the computer to restart the stream recording, not always that easy from my timezone.

Sony Vegas is complete trash for doing this kind of thing, because it only lets you modify a clip's speed by up to 3x, so I basically start out with a 6 hour recording, then cut that into 2 hours, then cut that into 45 minutes, then cut that into 15, etc. and each time requires a full render.

here is an older example

I have done timelapses of aizu's stream in the past, did all the postprocessing trough ffmpeg's cli.
These speedup commands are from 2014 notes:
>ffmpeg -i input.mkv -filter:v "setpts=0.03125*PTS" output.mkv
This should be good for 32x because 1 / 0.03125 = 32.
>ffmpeg -i input.avi -y -filter:v "setpts=0.00390625*PTS" -b:v 700k -r 30 output.webm
This should be 256x

At the time I remember having problems if ffmpeg was used to save a stream in another format as it was broadcast. This was because ffmpeg would realtime convert it to another format, the solution was saving it to an .avi file.
>ffmpeg.exe -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu -an -y -b:v 700k -vcodec copy n-jraizu.avi

Also have a shrine camera i keep trying to record but every time i try someone either keeps moving it around or absolutely nothing happens the entire time so it's just a 12 hour video of shadows changing before it gets dark.

Damn, that's crazy.
I just downloaded some free to try crap and it can do 100x at least, on the fly per clip while editing. Videopad something or other.
Not sure if it will give the internet AIDS, but hasn't triggered any warnings yet.
As far as video editors go it is fairly basic but i just need to be able to throw in a video and turn the speed up so what do i care.

Sorry, i don't link IP cameras in general unless i know they are available from a official website of the location.
It is way too easy to get them knocked off the internet with unusually high traffic, either from people realizing the camera is publicly accessible when it shouldn't be or simply that the camera can't handle the traffic.
Image name is a hint though if you are familiar with Panasonic cameras and the "infrastructure" offered around them.

>> No.20563111

I remember a link to a similar shrine back in the past live cam threads, tried to access yesterday and it was with no surprise offline, pretty much tells people do love watching streams like this and unfortunately due to high traffic it ends up being shut down.

There was another stream I mentioned some threads ago about a temple that you could actually see girls wearing miko clothes, it was pretty comfy but sadly I believe the stream went offline as I tried to open it again.

>> No.20563232

>>20563111
There used to be quite a few cameras like that years back when people had to use google or shodan (and know what to look for) to find them but then insecam started bringing attention to them and instead of 4-5 viewers a day they started hitting several hundred and one by one they either went offline or are constantly overloaded from views.
I really miss those times, i wish i had recorded more back then.

I remember one camera in a small cornershop somewhere in Osaka and a sushi restaurant in Tokyo that both had a audio plugin that you could listen in on.
Over the years i followed them being discovered by several online communities without any problems with the cameras even with people watching them pretty much 24/7.
Then insecam started indexing Panasonic cams and they both went down within a week, first to overload and then they got removed permanently when the owners got tired of dealing with them constantly being hijacked.

Sometimes you can still find some IP cameras that are so old that insecam indexing doesn't find them, but google has started to become more and more unreliable at it and you can easily get your IP banned because they think you are a bot if you keep running the same search strings.

It looks like soon youtube and similar third party hosted streams is going to be the only reliable way to host or watch cams.

I don't think it's the cost as much as the fact that it didn't bring any additional income.
I am guessing the cameras were meant as some sort of publicity stunt but they never saw any noticeable positive effects of it.

I am also guessing that the hardware and software to run it was on its last legs and would have had to be replaced soon, and that would have been a additional cost to keep it running.
