The word orange as the color, it sound like orengi or something which is so close to the western word

What do you mean rough. It's angular. It's actually terribly designed and you don't get much practice so expect your brain to take a while to get used to it. Also hiragana usually appears in 2-4 characters per word . the words are a lot easier to read compared to longer English words which have a very different rhythm.

Japs just use the QWERTY layout with some extra keys to make using the IME slightly more convenient, but you don't need them. There's really absolutely no reason to buy a Japanese keyboard.

Basically whenever I get text and try to roll my cursor over the text to find what the characters mean, Yomichan has difficulty parsing the text to find what words are in the sentence. Got a couple of newfag questions.
I was forced to learn Mandarin (which I of course half-assed) for 3 years in high school, which was about a decade ago. The knowledge for breaking down characters into radicals still seems to come to me when I see them, so will I find it easier by learning the radical method? If so, how many of these radicals differ from Standard Mandarin?

Secondly, are there any good resources on learning the more historical parts of the language. You know, how stuff like いい is a change in pronunciation from よい, and that's where よく is inflected from. Or how さよなら is actually a shortening of a longer phrase, much like "Goodbye" is allegedly short for "God be with ye". The language makes much more sense knowing these little things.

Is there a good way to practice writing without doing something like getting a Japanese pen pal? I learn best when I'm actually working to put sentences together, but then I have no way of knowing if they're actually correct.

I read Tae Kim like 3 years ago, watched anime and once in a while shitty jap TV, never spoke to anyone or really tried hard to learn.
A couple of months ago I actually spoke to a jap and realized I can hold a decent everyday conversation. If I can go by the sample questions I am at N3, I can understand like 90% of SoL anime and chat online about inconsequential stuff.
Now I am trying to pick it back up but Anki doesn't really seem to do much and reading novels is just to much.
And though I can read simple stuff just fine writing is another beast. I tried to write a letter and a paragraph took me like 2 hours, I can read Kanji and write it on PC but by hand is just impossible.

You have to push through the wall. Pick up a LN and read it, looking up words you don't know and trying to get to 100% comprehension. Do the same with listening, maybe with some more wordy anime, or youtube videos with a good amount of talking.
