Elona is the original game, the others are variants like with Angband. The Omake variants try to be an expansion of the base game, while the Plus variants change things up more and provide new areas and story chapters. (There are other variants out there, but only Omake/Overhaul/Hack and Plus/Custom/G have English translations.)
Personally I'd recommend Custom-G, solely because it translates the Adventure Seminar, which teaches you how to actually play Elona.

love potions will get you to 100 and there's some sort of gift you can craft with the fusion pot that'll get you above that. Chocolate and a few other things work too.

Unfortunately, no. It's just a 1 in 20 chance per turn of spending money on training if they can afford it. (If you're curious, the code is in the *ai_followMove subroutine, right after the code for selling ores and wildflowers. It should be possible to iterate over all the potentials and skip training if they're all maxed, but I'm not sure exactly how it'd be done.)

Can someone help? I was in a dungeon fighting some monsters when I got hexed. It dropped my stats by a lot. Well, when I got to back to Vernis I went to a healer to get stats restored. The hexes got removed but all of my stats got lowered by about 15 points a piece. Are there potions or something I can use? Restore spirit and body don’t help and equipment didn’t change.

If you drink a blessed potion of restore body or restore spirit your stats receive a considerable boost until your next death. It's possible you drank one without noticing some time ago. Failing that, mutations or different equipment are the only sane culprits I can think of. The game will give you a message if a stat is permanently lowered, and -15 to everything is obviously way too much to not notice.

I say it's from an old blessed restore body/spirit. Drink another and see if things look right. It's a good idea to keep a stack of each around.

That's completely Ano's fault. The code for it constantly sets "item.timer = currenttime + item.timer", so of course it rapidly becomes a huge number. The "fix" he applied a while back made it clear he has no idea what the problem is, and it also apparently didn't actually fix anything.
What he should do is constantly set "item.timer = currenttime + item.cooldowntime", which has the intended effect of locking the item at the maximum cooldown value.

What's the preferred method of grabbing pets? I'm doing a CHA + army run (yes, I am a masochist) and the slave trader just isn't working for me, since they are usually pretty low-tier mobs. That said, monster balls are painfully rare and are usually generated at miserably low levels, and the rod of domination is too expensive for a budding adventurer.

I haven't really touched Elona+ since before Custom was even a thing so I hope you regulars would get me up to speed for anything new in that department.

I'm using Elona Custom G, by the way.

Monster ball levels in shops actually get higher with shop investment (just like gamble chests), but you can also make your own with a pot for fusion. Just work on getting your Carpentry to 20, and while you do, save up your empty chests/treasure balls/etc. and any 4-D mirrors you find. I'm still not sure what determines the ball levels, but I find I can make decent ones (around LV 50-60, IIRC) at home.

In the meantime, just aim for disposable low-level pets you won't necessarily want to keep beyond the early game.

The standard "extra attacks" system is its own deal. Assist weapons are a separate system running parallel to it.

Encountered an interesting glitch or something. I had two GAU-17 Customs drop back-to-back in the Machinery Fort. I had never gotten one before, but when I tried to pick them up, they both turned into Stardust. I went back to the little sister quest, checked the rewards, and it wasn't available, so I definitely had never touched one. I was able to wizard mode a replacement into existence (and then disable wizard mode with elosnack) to get my glitched gun back, and then I was able to pick it up no problem. Has anyone encountered this situation before?

Cockatrices use nerve magic, you need nerve resistance to not get gibbed by them.
It's never a bad idea to carry a rod of mutation to zap dangerous monsters with.

There is an Ap Skill called: Continuous Attack
That is a ranged skill that tears those tiny little monster to pieces.

But, until then try getting Shadow Step (Stealth =30) or Dimension Fishing [less reliable but has it uses (Fishing = 30)] or if you are willing to invest a Feat Point Dancing Wire (Assassin Strings + Tactics = 40)

Also if your Will = 50 you get a really good and a little risky skill called Blood Stream. I won't spoil it but, if you prepare right: It is Worth it.

How does teaching skills work? I've been teaching my little girl shadow step for a while now and she's still stuck at 0.

I can't use the resurrect spell on my pets inside a dungeon. The wiki said that it's limited to one time per npc per map but this is a new dungeon I visited and it's their first death since we last went dungeon diving.

I made a custom talk file for Isca the Fallen Angel.
Her personality is based on her card data which says she was kicked out of heaven for being lazy. Since she's an archer I made her reference Lulwy in a few lines, and she also mentions the Black Angel follower as a rival.

As far as I know, mouse controls aren't doable. The closest you could get is reconfiguring keys via config.txt to use wasd for movement (or whatever you prefer) and your other hand for hotkeys as needed. You should try playing with the default keys though. I used to be a wasd + arrow keys/mouse babby, but numpad movement is nice and intuitive once you're used to it.

Yep. Go to a blacksmith (the shops that sell gear only) and "harden" the damaged items until they don't have the negative number anymore. You can also use this to buff them to a higher quality. Keep an eye out for acidproof liquid. You can use that to prevent acid damage on your items.

If you want to actually hit enemies with it, your choice is basically between maximum magic damage and maximum lightning damage. Magic works well on everything. Lightning can outdamage magic, IF you debuff the target first (Wet/Element Scar). Personally, I go with magic.

When saving graphics for Elona you want it to be a 24bit bmp and "not write color space information" like in this gimp example.
Remember that when converting spritesheets to current versions of Elona you want to merge the monstergirl sheet over the current one because it is missing a few sprites and is in a different size/resolution.

Go to the low levels of the void and you should be able to build up AP very quickly. In short order you'll outspeed the great majority of your enemies. Also get the awesome swimsuit.

I wish there was a button that remembers state of current inventory.
Like for example, you have clean inventory, except for good potions, scrolls and wands you need for combat, food and other stuff. You click "remember state".
Afterwards you go and fight, filling your inventory with loot. And when you return home, instead of dropping items one by one, you just click another button "drop everything except remembered" and bam! Inventory management would never be a problem.
At least, for me it's a problem. Even if I pick only absolutely needed items, like hermes blood and godly artifacts - it still takes way too much time to manage inventory.
I don't think that some feature like that will ever be implented, so, how do you deal with inventory management and hoarding?

You can convert evil living weapons into "hero" living weapons that summon monsters instead of drinking your blood. Doesn't sound like a great deal to me though.

Is it still possible to gene engineer more than two hands on pets? I've literally established an asura farm beside by house and after at least 6 tries, still no new hands (past the second) forthcoming.

I made a brand new PCC body with the looseleaf PCC maker. Got the perfect pixel size, converted it to bmp, put it into the PCC folder, and renamed it to "pcc_body_3.bmp, but when I try to select it in character creation the game crashes and I get this error. Any help?

When was the last time you checked? Early game it's a bit slow and you'll want the tonfas/claws, late game you can use them or go barehanded. The main problem you'll run into is hitting certain dodgy enemies, but you can throw booze at them to get a boosted hit rate against drunks. It starts to take off once you start getting the MA spacts like element enchants and clear mind. Make sure to stack as much multi-attack as you can.

How hard would it be to remove / block the thirst / piss mechanic on my own?
I can't use G because Custom gives me error with 100% accuracy and each time someone has the same error nobody can offer a solution .

PSA: If your waifu's default AI has Uncontrol as her emergency action, then whenever she drops below 25% HP she'll freak out and probably kill you. (She doesn't actually turn hostile: it's just that using Uncontrol repeatedly with no enemies around will cause her to teleport next to you and spam the friendly-fire version of Swarm.)
If you're playing Custom, custom AI only kicks in while in combat, so if your waifu hits a landmine or something in the middle of nowhere she could freak out and accidentally kill you. People with Meshera waifus need to be especially careful of being caught out in the Etherwind, since they take constant damage from it.
The best way to be safe is to give your waifu a first aid kit, which explicitly overrides the emergency action. Instead of getting stuck on Uncontrol, she'll use it to fully heal herself.

It depends. If you're trying to use weapons to raise stats, generally that's a less effective process. If you're trying to use both an Axe/Short Sword at once, that's up to you, but generally that means you're dual wielding, and it isn't very helpful early on unless you've taken the foundation specs for it. Which Act you're in also affects this somewhat, since Artifact Fusion ends up being key for gear unless you get lucky. Early on you're just not going to find good weapon combinations which would make a noticeable difference.

It depends on what I'm looking for at the moment.

But what I soon learned from running an 11 pet party was that the logistics pile up extremely fast and it's a pain to keep everyone in good form (potential, herb food, etc). I also found it difficult to use in (the many) narrow maps, and had to invest skill and SP in Houzanha to remove all obstacles before engaging. Good equipment is also scarce, so a lot of my pets were running in shit-tier gear midway into Act 3. So, all in all, more preparation is required.

The pros are obvious - you can just drown the enemy in moves, especially non AoE boss types, and Fire a Volley and Unison Impact get better the more people are shooting at once.

Breaths and balls are a bitch, though.
