I think RINS does super great stuff with some masks.
Problem is that you can't really just go and order from them, since they lottery away the few slots that open once in a blue moon.

GKO is good, but definitely not the best by any margin. They are well respected in the west because they are easily accessible one-stop-shop and very good quality.

SIGMA, RINS, Monaka and Dolphin are generally the gold standard.

GKO, Omdoll, Ayame, Mania Juns, Sekiya, (sometimes Raigeki) and a whole bunch others are the next step down and DAME is quickly catching up.

RTPS. Basically don't even bother counting RTPS as a maker. They should be avoided at all costs. The whole studio basically preys on budding kigs that don't know better, charging hilarious prices for substandard, often defective work.

This is fascinating, a couple of questions:

How are kigs usually viewed in Japanese society? Are people open about it? Try to hide it?

Do kigs usually come out as trans after a while?

What's the gender percentage? Mostly men? Exclusively men?

Kig is pretty much an otaku hobby, so Japanese society probably views them just like they do the rest of otaku culture: negatively. Professional kigs are probably viewed positively relative to how they would be received in the US, though.

In the western community kigs don't usually come out as trans (if by "usually" you mean >50%) but it's definitely a higher rate than the general population. In Japan the rate is probably lower due to LGBT identities being generally less visible.

Gender percentage is something like 90% men in the west, higher in Japan.

Kigs aren't really "viewed" in the sense that it's such a niche thing that people don't really have views usually. But the people that stumble upon it on Japanese internet often say things like キモい "creepy" or キチガイ "insane": generally, the same reaction as in the West. As for being open or closed about it, a rather large number of Japanese kigs succeed in keeping it a secret from their family, despite many of those same people living with their family. According to a large Japanese survey, there are even some married kigs that keep it a secret from their spouses. Of course, there is still a considerable amount of Japanese kigs that are open about it, but you'd be surprised at some of the more famous Japanese kigs that manage to keep it a secret.

Kig and trans are generally completely different things, although the kig community definitely has a higher proportion of transgender members than average. There are a lot of kigs, such as myself, that are perfectly fine with being male and masculine outside of kig. Actually, there are even a few members of the community quite hostile to the idea of being transgender. Generally, people don't come to kig because of gender dysphoria. I also think it is worth making a distinction between wanting to be a "girl" and wanting to be an "anime girl."

In the West, the gender percentage is definitely somewhere above 90% male. In Japan, according to a large survey taken of the community last year, it's about 96% male. It may seem intimidating for females to join, but in my experience, the large majority of community members are perfectly cool with it. In any case, we are mostly, but not exclusively, men.
