The reason English TLs almost always suck is because the person making them can't into cadence and meter. If it's pleasant to listen to, it's okay.

I wouldn't call a human voice a sin to it. Especially since most newer songs just use Miku or whoever else as an instrument instead of a character to be based around.

I don't really try and find Vocaloid versions of songs with human singers, either. I think I've maybe heard like 2. In one case, the original human version was better and the in other case I didn't really like the song either way. If it turned out a Vocaloid song I liked was a cover of a human singer, I'd listen to the original version and go from there. If I found a Vocaloid cover of a human-sung song that I loved, I might listen to it but chances are I'd like the original more. My issue with utaite is that if I love the original version, I don't want someone trying to do better, and that goes both ways. I don't have a problem if someone likes utaite, it's just not for me. As an aside, I don't really like it when human singers cover human singers, either.

You can't make english lyrics fit the cadence of a jap song without significantly changing them. Try singing the subs of a random vocaloid song on YouTube, they won't work, so you need to seriously alter and reword shit to have it work in another language. Maybe some people don't give a shit but I can't stand those changed around lyrics. It's butchering the song's meaning.

A 1:1 literal JP->ENG translation is impossible in general anyways. Changing lyrics is okay as you're keeping the same general idea of what's going on.
