What does "adv" next to words in yomichan mean? If it's some sort of conjugation I can't find it on google. It appears directly next to a word. Most descriptors are placed under words and indicate if the word is adjective or noun.

Did you understand the meaning of the word and the context it was used in when you added it to Anki? Add whatever helps you understand the meaning of the word to Anki such as sentences, pictures and personal notes. Abstract words tend to benefit from more example usages and tangible objects from pictures. If you're having Kanji troubles then try RTK. Only do that if you're actually having trouble with kanji because it's an additional time sink. Just pay attention to your reviews and you'll notice what your particular problem is on a particular card.

to about 27 new words a day. But there is a lot of overlap between genki and core I would say maybe 18-20 a day or about.

Not every word deserves Anki. If you see 戦う on your Final Fantasy battle menu every 10 seconds, you don't need anki for that. However, if you consistently cannot remember that 戦　can and is often read as いくさ (mostly in news articles but whatever) Anki that shit. But if you know how to read it in 作戦　戦闘　戦争 don't waste your time on that.

Cutting back on Anki and reserving it for only what it most important is the key to success.

Also worth noting but "grammar" ultimately comes down to vocabulary past a certain point, as once you have the fundamentals down, there are just fancier/nuanced ways to say essentially the same things you already know in the basics. Those will come with time and exposure, but it's dumb to think of them as "grammar" strictly.

For example, お陰で・せいで are ultimately just nuanced ので ・から, which is not "grammar" but simply a new way to express a more specific form of that grammar.

Shit, we don't think of "due to" "because of" "because" "as a result of" as separate grammars, they're just different "vocabulary" to express the base idea.

Even though I only watch anime for the cute girls, it turns out that understanding what those cute girls are saying is also really important for my enjoyment. Try to enjoy something without any crutches or help. If you don't "get" a word or can't read a Kanji, skip over it.

Relax. Be amazed when that one word/kanji/etc you have no reason to remember magically comes to you in that moment. I was reading the article about the ２つ頭がもってる蛇 yesterday and didn't have pics to go by because my work internet sucks, but somehow just "knew" ヘビ was what it was in that moment. That might be a Kanji I've ever seen two times and never even drilled in Anki, and I might not see it again for a year or more if I don't read anything related to snakes.

To deal with readings... Read.

At this point I'm not even sure how I can explain why I remember the readings for most of the Kanji, because when I learned 戦う I was playing Pokemon and, well, was doing that exact thing. I didn't need some kind of special help to remember that, 戦う is just 戦う. When I learned 戦闘 I remember thinking "oh this sucks I expected that shit to be たたかうsomething" but at the same time, dealt with it and later realized that 作戦　戦争 would have the same せん reading which made it easy to deal with. At the same time, I was just learning them as they became useful to me.

I don't see that kanji and break it down into parts to try to remember it. Even more abstract ones like 殺. Shit dude, I don't even have time to consider what those different parts might mean stuck together, that's just 殺す or 暗殺 or 殺人 or　殺害 or 必殺 or whatever else it is at any given time.

I guess bonus points IF a kanji can be taken to mean something else, like I'm eternally fascinated with 蜂蜜 because when I heard it for the first time I was like "no way... it couldn't be 　蜂密? as in, 蜂の秘密?" And while I was not quite right, I wasn't exactly super wrong either. It's not like I depend on that to remember it, it's just... exactly what it is.

RTK users overthink this shit way more than is necessary.
