I wouldn't find it hard to believe but I remember someone randomly asking about the alleged guy in that screenshot a month ago, and that guy just randomly happened to be present in that thread and responded to it. He updated the screenshot and has been posting it regularly. It's possible it's actually some guy who's been struggling for years, but it's more likely to me he's a samefag.

Its not that hard to believe to be honest, he has obviously been here a long time. He probably lurks or just doesn't post the avatar so you don't know it's him unless he wants you to which, considering he makes like 1 appearance a year, is not often. Either way, it's more what he represents. Bad study habits and failure.

Should I be memorizing every word's kanji stroke by stroke when going through Anki? I'm still beginning and I can recognize them but I get the feeling I wouldn't be able to reproduce their kanji in a detailed manner (which means I wouldn't be able to reproduce their kanji, period). If I've done the Kanji specifically in Heisig I can remember/write it mentally pretty accurately, but the same doesn't apply to ones I haven't had yet. I just kind of memorize the form (most of all for 10+stroke kanji).

I fucking hate weaboos. Those goddamn obsessive bastards who wank over anime and worship every aspect of japanese culture, despite the fact that they've never even been to Japan. Here's a spoiler for you; Japan ain't that great. It's just a fucking country like every other, and guess what, most Japanese people are openly racist, so chances are if your some fat geeky faggot who is studying Japanese so you can move there to feel accepted, you're gonna get a huge fucking shock. If you aren't accepted in your native country, you sure as hell aren't going to be accepted in the racist harsh society of Japan.

I tried to study Japanese at Uni last year, but the class was full of geeky virgins who called themselves "otaku" (which in Japanese basically means 'basement dweller', 'lurker' or someone who is just generally anti-social and obsesseive) which I never fucking understood. And all they talked about was anime and manga. How the hell am I supposed to have a meaningful conversation with someone, when their entire life revolves around anime? I mean, I don't mind anime. It's ok I guess. But at the end of the day, it's just fucking cartoons. Why don't you see people getting obsessive over English cartoons? Do these cartoons suddenly become super-awesome just because they're in Japanese? Jesus christ.

Out of the 20 people in my class, 17 of them are anime freaks/otaku/weaboo, with only 3 normal people including me. This is too fucking much. It's just impossible to talk to these people, and they don't go out and party, drink, drugs or anything interesting. I got invited to one of their gatherings once, I was told it was a house party, but when I arrived they were all just sat around a PC watching japanese music videos and playing DDR on a PS2... sigh. So I got a couple of drinks and quickly vacated that piece of shit "party". It was a friday night too. Fucking loser freaks...

Where exactly the fuck are you ever going to encounter a word where it's even slightly likely that either of these could be mistaken for the other?

Vocab is king because when you learn a word, you now have something to latch onto and associate the sound/kanji with. If you see 平原 and already know the words 太平洋 and 草原 you have multiple reference points to try to reach for those meanings and readings. Of course it sucks at the start because you have a shitload of new things to learn, but it gets easier and easier with each passing day.

The 週末・未来・未遂・末期 ・未満 thing 100% averted by learning those as whole words.

Anyways once your vocabulary is decent it's pretty cool to have Kanji explained in a bit of a recursive way. たとえば:熱波とは波のように来る熱さ。This really signifies your arrival into the intermediate world.

it's hard to tell but i genuinely don't think so. i haven't learned any more basic grammar concepts or anything. i'm still looking up every word. i'm still triple-checking what the て form is doing in this situation. i'm still spending 2 minutes mulling over whether から means "since" or "from" or "after" in this situation, etc. nothing feels like it's changed at all. i'm still looking up every single word, i'm still not getting what と is doing in virtually any situation besides "and", i'm still not getting why the words are ordered the way they are and which word is connected to which word, which phrase is modifying the other phrase, etc.

i keep getting told i should read more but i feel like i'd be better off just drilling grammar guides for a couple months and then going back to it. i wonder if the people who recommend reading more even practiced what they preached in the beginning or if they studied for the first few months and then started reading, and underestimated the benefit of the study they had done. or maybe they did practice what they preached but they just kinda suck ass compared to people who did study, but they're more accepting of their suckiness.

of course not, but beginners are supposed to make the most progress right? and a lot of people in these threads claim reading is the best way to learn right? then why isn't reading doing anything for me? it seems like another case of advanced learners projecting their current experiences onto beginners. you already know so many words and understand so many concepts that context makes it easy for you to infer the meaning of a word or grammar point and remember it. but i'm not getting that luxury.

A shame the desktop version has a bug preventing this simple approach from working. It can be mimicked using javascript but a single line of css is really a lot more practical.
