Nice assumption. Basically, you're trying to say that since you understand more things in total, learning becomes easier. That's not true. Learning was easier when I was learning hiragana tables. Learning was easier when I was learning greetings. Learning was easier when I first started with VNs and raw manga. The things I am learning now are harder, so learning keeps getting harder. And the amount of things I mustn't forget keeps increasing. It never gets easier; it only gets harder.

>> No.19821323

>>19821281
You interpreted the first sentence right, just note the subject of イライラする are the ones getting annoyed, so it would be "getting annoyed" and not "getting annoying."

But there's no "should have" in the second one, and you didn't explain what you're thinking with that translation. You should at least say what you think the words mean.

>あれだけ公式持ち上げてたのに

The poster isn't talking about himself, he's still talking about yosiriko shippers. It's saying the よしりこ厨 were praising the 公式 which refers to the official love live show or whatever official love live content there is.

The のに at the end is referring back to what he already said, that it's funny they're getting upset. It's common to reverse it and end with のに this way instead of putting the のに sentence at the beginning.

The whole idea is:

あれだけ公式持ち上げてたのに、各地でイライラしてて笑える

Just with the first thought placed at the end instead.

>> No.19821339

Or I guess he's referring more to the whole situation. Even though they kept giving it their all as love livers their show didn't give them anything back. What a modern tragedy.

>> No.19821375

>>19821323
Thank you so much for the detailed reply!
It was kind of hard to distinguish who was praising the love live officials since the Japanese language seldom uses pronouns.

The way I learned のに was "even though..." but after checking maggiesensei, there are other ways you can use it.

So going back to the sentence it should translate to: Even though the yoshiriko shippers praised the officials, it's funny that they're getting annoyed now. Correct? To give more context, yoshimaru do get pandered more than yoshiriko in this franchise.

Yeah, but I was just demonstrating that のに can refer backwards to something or just to the general situation of having to be AのにB. The original post is like:

Yoshimaru keeps getting pandered so the yoshiriko shippers are acting annoyed everywhere and it's laughable. After all their praise for official love live, too.

The のに is adding the "even though" or "despite all this" thought that's in the second sentence.

- VN won't install at all
- VN installs but won't run
- VN installs and runs but then crashes at a certain point in the story and you can't go any further
- VN installs and runs but has issues such as the backgrounds disappearing, the UI being clunky and unresponsive, serious audio problems, etc.

I wrote some advice about the use of Wine and VMs based on my experience in the resources guide, but some of the edits I made never made it from the Google Docs page to either of the neocities pages.

Been meaning to do this for over a year now and still haven't gotten round to it. My initial attempt to set up a dual boot failed because it turns out Windows 7 won't let you upgrade to SP1 if it detects another OS on your system for some retarded reason. What I needed to do was install Windows 7, install all the drivers, install all the updates up to SP1, then install SP1 itself before installing Linux, but I didn't know that at the time. Sooner than go through the extremely time consuming process of starting from scratch again (why does Windows take so damn long to install and update anyway?), I just decided "fuck this, I'll do it some other time".

Do you mean it puts it in the foreground?
It's a matter of perspective so you could be talking about the same thing as me. Either way it's an indirect way of putting it as the time, and has a different meaning and usage. It's not "今日、いい天気ですね" vs. "今日はいい天気ですね," it's a different distinction because of the verb being there.

明日やります is allowed to be 明日、やります but 明日はやります is not necessarily allowed in the same places as 明日やります.

I read an interview with James Heisig where he mentioned learning to speak Japanese by playing with children, somewhere up in the mountains. How could you even make this stuff up? So when I heard the man was in Tokyo, I knew I had to ask him about it.

Because here’s the extent of what I learned from children by teaching grade school in Japan for several years: The word for lunch. How to say “I’m so cold.” How to say “I’m so hot.” How to grab your teacher’s penis and exclaim “bigu sticku.” How to insert your fingers up his butt in a move known as the kancho. Beyond that, children typically ramble about some toy or cartoon or playground game. They’re not going to coach you on how to make hotel reservations or order up another plate of gyoza. The idea that one could learn to speak from them is insane. They can’t even use the language decently themselves. That’s because they’re freaking kids.

I met Heisig at a writer’s workshop. He seemed a pleasant enough fellow, and a fine teller of grandiose stories. After listening to his well-polished tale about singlehandedly inventing a way of learning Japanese characters that millions of Japanese folks had never thought of in their thousands of years of history, I finally got a chance to ask him, “How did you learn to speak it?”

“I played baseball with the kids,” was his reply. “Up in the mountains. In Nagano.

“You played baseball?” I asked. “With children?

“Yep.

“And that’s how you learned to speak Japanese?

“Sure. Children are the best teachers.”

Now, that sounds reasonable. Everybody nodded. But it isn’t reasonable. It sounds good, but it’s actually nuts. Children are the worst teachers. They make no damn sense.

You know, over the years, I’ve asked many people how they learned Japanese, and their answers consistently fall into one of two categories. They either describe a systematic method pursued diligently over the course of several years, or they make up some convenient bullshit because they don’t really want to respond to the question. I looked at Heisig, and had my answer.

Thanks anons. You're all correct for the most part. I do what I do because it's fun for me, but it's also procrastination. Sure as shit don't do what I do (I shouldn't be doing what I do).

Studying, sentence mining, Anki, all that shit. That just raises your potential in understanding Japanese when you're watching and reading your 10,000 hours which raises your level. What I was doing two years ago was neither of those cause I was just switching shit from Anki to Memrise for others (except for Zettai Kareshi cause that's when I was also watching and reading the episodes).

I'm still going to help make the JLPT Tango decks to share, and study them myself (because fuck you, that's why). Also, I'm going to also study dramas and share those decks. Also, I'm going to be reading a shitload of Japanese and watching a shitload of Japanese. So that's 1 to 2 hours of study along with 2 to 4 hours of watching and reading.

Reading anime is the most enlightened method. Watch in mpv with JP subs and use CTRL+Left or Right to go to the last subtitle if you didn't understand. Problem with autogenerating Anki cards from subtitles is that it inevitably involves using OCR or Chinese fansubs somewhere in the process, both of which are liable to introduce errors.

Official subs (which rarely exist for anime) are picture-based, so the use of OCR is required by any automatic process designed to convert them to text. When official subs don't exist, they are 99.9% of the time produced by Chinese fansubbers who seem to quite often make mistakes.

>In the listening test participants were asked to fill in 24 word gaps interspersed within a 180 word text, while they were hearing the same text fragment spoken, including the words corresponding to the gaps. The spoken fragment lasted one minute and it was played twice, with one-minute rest in-between repetitions. The 180-word excerpts were taken from a dialogue from episode 2 of the same series, which was held between two new characters that did not appear in the episode viewed by our participants (episode 1) during the exposure phase. This was done in order to maintain a similar language register but avoid the habituation to the particular voice and prosody of the characters featuring in episode one. Orthographic errors in the responses to the listening task were not taken into account (as long as the word was understandable), for only auditory perception was of our interest.

that sounds like a reading test to me

That's better than what I was expecting. I was expecting them to do something similar to that but using the exact same episode that they had watched, in which case it would be obvious to anyone that those who watched the episodes with the English subtitles would be better than those who had not. doesnt sound stupid to me it sounds like 1 of those dont sweat every word and completely ruin the language like a noob and youll be surprised when the right context presents itself and you know something that you never thought about before ever until that moment because it stuck at the subconscious level while you were quite literally mindlessly absorbing language by letting it flow normally

>> No.19828170

>>19828157
>subconscious
I thought it was proven that there's no thing such as subconsciousness, which was coined by Freud who lived years ago and simplified things for sake of his studies
maybe people mean 'memory' when they talk about 'subconsciously' doing things
it honestly sounds like the meme with multitasking that everyone mindlessly repeats - you can't concentrate on doing multiple tasks, you only do one at the time but because it's so fast it feels like you are in fact multi-tasking
it's like threads in programming

idk sounds like people have spent a lot of time focusing on singular things so they are just bad at doing multiple things but i bet if they spent years doing multiple things every day for most of the day they would get better at it ┐(‘~` )┌

I'm sorry but claiming it takes half an hour to read a single page when you use a dictionary and telling people that because of this they shouldn't use one is pants(u) on head retarded.

idk it sounds like the shit djt noobs do to me mostly because they dont know any japanese so compound that with sweating literally every single word and well theres your time gone literally wasted being retarded

I want to complete Core2k and I'm 400 words in. I saw throughout the 2k words that there's a lot that I know spread all across the list, is there some easy way to go through the whole list and selectively review the ones that I deem easy? Like when you click 'Browse' and "Prewiew" cards - that is very fast way to skim thru but there's no way to selectively reviews besides the drudgery of taggin every word and then studying the tagged cards later.

you're probably imagining something far more magical and gay than what people are trying to talk about. have you never suddenly picked up on a word, then started seeing and hearing it all over the place, even though you never noticed it before? that's your subconscious. you didn't control that. it just happened. there's nothing mystical or romantic about it despite what guru scammers might portray it as.
