The chest straps are unique to only Salad and Kana. ZUN is known to take a lot of design cues from Izumi Takemoto (he designed Salad), ZUN himself even lists Takemoto as among his favorite artists and the biggest influence to his artstyle.

Man, we all know that's a typical Alice in Womderland dress but the exaggerated frayed sleeves and overall-like chest straps only appear on Salad and Kana. Kana's dress is just Salad's dress but with a red ribbon and changing said overall straps to blue instead of white. You know the little fuzzball thing from HRtP's ending? ZUN also took that from the game Salad is from (Loopop Cube).

It's funny you say that because literally every main character introduced in PoDD besides Rikako is based on an Izumi takemoto character. Don't you know that PoDD was a parody loveletter to the things ZUN loves? Furst of all, the game's gimmick was taken from another SHMUP, Twinkle Star Sprites. Let's not forget that Multi from To Heart, Mimi from Don't Leave Me Alone Daisy, and fucking Doraemon also appear in the game. Are you forgetting that Ellen was literally lifted from Hatarakimono? PoDD was a gag game. A joke by ZUN.

People are quick to bring up "muh plagiarism" as knocks on PoDD or other PC-98 games, but I find many Windows characters lack the same charm that older ones have.

In the case of PoDD, the cast being so ridiculous is why I like them so much, enough that they are my second favorite cast in the series. I already don't like the Phantasmagorias' gameplay, and it's a damn shame PoFV throws out the goofiness and soundtrack that made PoDD any good at all.

Never did I once boil Kana down to her copy. ZUN never took any personalities, he only copied character designs. And are you really extrapolating my words that hard? I was talking about PoDD specifically and not the whole series. The game is a joke game. The characters in that game all reference other characters from other series. Even in their dialogue, they make jokes about. ZUN even talks about Takemoto in PoDD's manual. There's no need to get so offended.

The reason the cast is so ridiculous is because ZUN pulled all of them from different unrelated manga and games. That doesn't mean they're bad, it was a common practice for doujin games back then. He even mentions Loopop Cube in the game's own manual, heck he talks about almost all his inspirations in PoDD's manual

It's not like he stole it maliciously. He clearly talks about how much of a big injoke this game was in the various .TXTs of it. Of course, you never hear about this since no one translated it to English.

It just said "stolen design", which is true in this case. Kana's dress is just a slightly changed Salad's dress. That doesn't mean it's worse. It's actually better. Kana's design is a way more interesting than Salad's design. You really must have thin skin to emotionally defend this fictional character's clothes this hard.

She has like three or four portraits (including endings) and most of them are her being smug or prankster-like. She's a hitchhiking ghost. It's implied that she lost her original home so there's the reason for that. She even tries to humorously stowaway in Reimu's shrine.
