Please do.

I have been in a major artistic slumps for months, especially in regards to music - I only managed to churn out things when working together with others, even though I really want to do some solo work.
Did this two nights ago; it sucks pretty badly and I don't like it, but the fact that I finally did SOMETHING by myself again still is a huge boost in motivation.

Hard to say because old Cag and new Cag styles are very different. Still trying different methods for everything. Also I'm not necessarily trying to draw Cag most of the time just practicing certain things and I just use her as a base to practice those things. But I'm not looking at a Cag ref when I do so I usually work off a corrupted memory.

I remember mentioning I was working on this doujinshi sometime last year, and I've since dropped it and picked it up again. I wanted to have it finished before Comiket, but procrastination's a bitch. I constantly redraw iffy-looking panels too, and if I keep that up I'll never finish the bloody thing.

Also, glad to see you're still alive and kicking, dude. I still listen to the /jp/ music compilation from time to time, and was meaning to revisit your bandcamp EPs. That new track is nice as always, very space-y and just in general good Post Rock. Keep at it my dude.

Here are some snippets of tracks I'm writing on with one of my current studio projects; we're two guys. I feel like having someone to be creative with can really help. It doesn't really scratch the itch of doing something solo, but it's just good to be more active again.

I take a loooong time to draw and especially during the sketching phase so I've decided to train by imposing certain rules on myself to improve my drawing time.

>I can not erase
>If I were to erase, I need to undo or redo everything.
>I can draw over the mistakes made.
>I can move but I am not allowed to scale the image
>I must prevent very rough outlines
>Character must be wearing as little clothing as possible so that the body shape can be seen.
>Drawings can be made under 30 minutes.

This is not a very good idea for sketching with these restrictions, IMO.
Everything else is actually decent for increasing your quality. Quantity is superior to quality, so it's best to do hundreds of sketches in your first year.

Don't worry about this stuff, grab, say, a statue of Venus from your backyard and sketch it, the only rules you should be making are gridlines with a ruler to preserve the proportions. Take your time, place your lines carefully, and draw the object that is right in front of you as it is. You do this with any object, a flower, a guitar, your mum, to practice drawing more and more. You can also just get a nice picture of Hecatia and trace that(draw on paper what is front of you on the screen), do this daily for a long period of time and you will see some improvements. It's supposed to have Vocaloid vocals, but like always I can't come up with a singe line of lyrics, so it has a placeholder synth instead.

Also, as for dungeon editing, I'm not sure if I should stick to the mouse/GUI based interface (gif related).

Someone suggested removing the GUI interface and having the player walk around the cell manually adding/removing squares ala minecraft/etc, and manually dragging lolis (or asking them to follow you) in between cells.

What are your thoughts on this?

pros:
-more personal investment into your dungeon
-more gamepad friendly
-would gel better with existing controls

cons:
-more tedious
-GUI is already partially implemented
-GUI be more convenient for a way to open up the NPC status GUIs

Also, you probably won't be carving out massive dungeons or anything, so the tediousness might not be too significant.

I'm not sure if it would go into some freeze-the-world editing mode or keep it fully in-gameplay either.

Also for more context, here's some more normal gameplay. There's an Action Chooser you can pop up (Q on kb/m, or Y on gamepad (although you can rebind all controls)) which has 2 categories: Actions, Items. You can see some usage in this gif.

If I do dungeon editing without a GUI, I could do something like having 3 root-level choices:

*Furniture:
- Choose (picks which one you'd be currently placing, would bring up a list menu like in the GUI)
- Place
- Remove

* Excavate:
- Dig out
- Fill in

* Floor
- Choose (would bring up a list menu)
- Set

I could also have a dedicated edit-mode with its own custom controls instead of reusing the action chooser though.

>>19741108

Because the basement starts out small. This allows more customization. Do you want some gigantic rectangular area that you place walls into? That sounds ugly and with less freedom.

tl;dr: it's unrealistic to have like a 200x300 metre basement, and it gives you more freedom, while also being basically no different from a gameplay perspective other than giving more freedom.

It just seems weird to me to be building a giant, irregularly sized basement that would span under other people's houses. It'd make more sense to me to have to plan out and manage how many lolis you could fit into your basement.
I'd probably just have a defined size house and basement that you'd choose between letting a few live comfortably in spacious cages or cramming them like 12 to a room, even letting you mod your whole house with installations so it's nothing but a loli zoo on every floor. Maybe with different house sizes for a challenge too, like a standard house, a house with an abandoned house next to it that you could connect basements to and fill that house up also, or some mansion a hill that did have enough isolation to dig out a bigger basement dungeon.

That's just me though, but even so it seems kind of out of place altogether to just have a basement mining mode like that. Either way, I was just wondering why, so my reply is way too involved.

I guess it's not exactly clear what is happening in the lower half. I like drawing with swimsuits. It's basically naked and it just takes a second to add on and makes it post-able here. Drawing in swimsuit would make the image a lot more clear. My personal thought is that anatomy is a lot more complicated than clothing so it's better to work on that and then clothes can be done every now and then.

I made yet another UN Owen remix. I call it UN Mellowen was Her. I replaced the MIDI soundfonts with a high quality Mellotron VST because I'm a huge progressive rock fan. I slapped on a bit of reverb, but besides that it's au naturel. A bit in the middle is a little wonky but I think it sounds really nice.
https://my.mixtape.moe/iygbvu.mp3

The Mellotron is a British keyboard that debuted in the early 1960's. It was unusual because it reproduced sound off of magnetic tape-based samples of various instruments playing a single note and it was intended for pianists who wanted to play "chamber" music. It's kind of like the grandaddy to those inexpensive Yamaha MIDI keyboard that have like 200 different instruments built in. It was used by several notable artists in the 1960's and 70's, especially the Beatles, the Moody Blues and King Crimson.

Any anons want to show off their construction/sketch phases and the thought process behind it? I don't have any trouble inking and doing stuff like hair or even clothes, but the construction process is something I struggle a lot with, I can't really find a way that sticks.

It's odd too because there are plenty of tutorials for things like shading, but not much that I can find for laying out the initial pose/bodywork that you ink in and how it works. Even a lot of videos skip it and start straight at the linework.

>> No.19779907

>>19779710
My usual process for serious drawings like >>19745510 goes like this:
1) Idea comes up. It needn't be precise.
2) I draw a rough sketch or a final lineart from the start. I use a 20 px G-Pen and draw in fluid lines. It's extremely important to capture dynamics/gestures from the start. This is also the thumbnailing step where I compare different angles either in my head or by drawing them very roughly and trying to judge which one looks better.
3) I check the proportions by using the brush size in pixels.
4) Opacity set to 20, I create another layer on top of the sketch, and start drawing the finalized lineart with 5 px- and 10 px-sized G-pen. I constantly flip the canvas in multiple directions when I'm drawing faces and less frequently when I'm drawing everything else. This is the step where the final composition is decided if I only had a vague idea until now. With complex character interactions (intertwined arms, etc.) I may use color codes for the lineart when I become unable to read the picture.
5) I use the straight line tool to check the symmetry of faces and other things if applicable. This is a hack, of course.
6) If I feel bothered by something, I check my reference resources, including sketchfab and MMD models.
7) I come back to the picture after not looking at it for a while and tweak the errors if I find any.

Then, or after Step 7, I post the lineart to imageboards hoping for advice or useful notes. After coloring it, I post it there again and fix the errors that were pointed out in a short time period (not longer than 3 days), then post it in my galleries and decide it's finished.

If I do something like >>19775525 or >>19721599, I only draw the final picture from the start and do a symmetry check if both eyes are visible on a face. Usually I form the complete vision only in the process of drawing it.

>step 3: i determine how dynamic i want my pose to be
step 4:
>i slowly begin fleshing it out in a rough skeleton
step 5:
>even as im inexperienced, i attempt to fix any proportions
step 6: if successful (very rare)
>i make any more corrections, and i tend to miss some
step 7:

naturally if you can't draw cylinders (long bones that form arms/legs) and spheres (ribcages and heads) and disks (hip girdle) in 3d space you should probably work on that first

idk what joints are though I kind of just plop down circles and flub through it which is kind of obvious in the finished product

Make the same pose with your left hand and study the proportions and shapes that the hand takes when you move your thumb. What I see now is that the first joint in her fingers is longer than it's supposed to be and/or the transition from the forearm to the palm is not distinct/sharp enough. Also, the index finger is not bent naturally. Though an inexperienced viewer will probably only notice the lack of transition.

I get what you mean. I just really love the sound of the mellotron and my friend showed me a method in which you can get VSTs to play midi files as opposed to basic soundfonts. I think a lot of the early (i.e prog era) Moogs were monophonic, and I've tried applying monophonic VSTs to the UN Owen midi and it doesn't sound that good.
I used a free, open source music making program called LMMS, which is a very good program. It is to FL Studio as GIMP is to Photoshop. Here is where I found my VST, I used the Redtron 400 specificaly:

It's a really good intent but it doesn't fit the song as of now, you should either rework the mellotron parts or implement them on another song and work on another approach for UN Owen. Yeah.
Technically correct doesn't necessarily look better to people. And I have no idea why and what is that "taste" I'm said to be missing.

People on other boards always complain when I make a thread with my picture as an OP, so I didn't want to make one.

Good. I should start doing that myself one of these days

If you have personal art you want to post, there's no reason you can't make a thread for yourself. As it is, it's like 3 posters doing stuff they could be doing on /ic/. Even if you make another OC thread, just don't call it part 2, etc. or put backlinks or edition or any of that other crap in OP. It's just a thread for OC.

Go for it. People will complain for literally anything, don't worry about it too much.

>into another general
But this isn't just another shitposting chatroom except with a topic, so it's ok.

I don't want people here to start hating me too. I'd rather have Arkeden make his finished pic a new OP.
You know, this thread's gotta have a bright OP. I was barely able to notice both this and the last one in the catalog.

Complete!

Different people different taste. I have weird tastes too when it comes too drawing. For example Giselobon too me is extremely nice. Your's could be bended to much more accurate drawings.

>no erect nipples?
G-gib me mercy. I'm the type who like to make lewd things but never cross it. The R-17.9 to be precise.

I'd say erect nipples are right at that border since you can't see em directly.
Also nice background.

So when are we doing the next thread?
Is it with the numbers?

hours, days, weeks, or months after this one dies. Simmer down. If you got something you need to post, post it now. This thread will last a while and there's an archive to view it later.
