Just a reminder that if we make a general in /vg/ (when it comes out) and if someone else makes the thread, remember to include "dies Irae", "Pantheon", etc. Basically key words when people search for the game.

I think /pantheon/, /dipg/(Dies Irae Pantheon general), /dig/(Dies Irae General) should be the most appropiate versions for it since that's what people are gonna look for in the catalogue the most, because the mobile game will probably be the main focus (so by that reasoning you have to make the title reflect the main point of discussion). I don't expect the game to release until very late (November/December) and maybe they will even delay it until Spring for next year, so this will take some time.

/vg/ is way too fast and DI is way too unpopular (in English) for you to sustain a thread on /vg/ without constant circlejerk bumping.

Actually, last time I edited the translation of the pantheon's page, I decided to go with Myoujou exactly because it's a name (a divine name, kajiri, but still a name), and names shouldn't be translated. Maybe it wasn't the brightest idea, I don't know anymore.

Yakou was talking about it, stating that one of the base principles of Onmyoudou is that you can't name something unknown, because it's something that no one has ever seen. That's why people (and the universe in general) tries to forcefully put things they don't understand into some form that they can understand and perceive. It's not completely correct to say that Tenma and their Kamunagara look exactly as we've seen them. It's just how the Eastern Expedition sees them. As for why they're Yatsukahagi — well, Tenma are the eight legs of a Tsuchigumo, a spider-like youkai from the Japanese folklore, which is also called "Yatsukahagi". They are referred as such because they oppose Ashihara no Nakatsukuni (which is one of the ancient names of Japan), and in ancient Japan, people called the ones who were opposing the Emperor "tsuchigumo". Why is the overall setting an ancient Japan-like? Well, probably because of how the world history went after Hajun wiped out almost everything. History developed much slower because of Tengudou as the universe law, but in general Japan still went the same course, up until the Easter Expedition of Emperor Jimmu (Rindou).

The anon explaining why the Yatsukahagi have such an extreme japanese look is pretty much right, but I also headcanoned that it was to hide their kajiris as well.

The problem with this is that when Eleonore was in Edo prior to the main story, all the Yatsukahagi were in human form, and still heavily dressed in Japanese clothing, style, etc. Also when she actually sees Yato she gets shit scared, so I'm assuming Ren at the very least looks the same to everyone.
The actual world mechanic/civilisation mechanic is a bit unclear and KKK didn't really say too much about it but rather gave us the setting for each heaven.

In that same way, the word "irae" is genitive (possessive form of the singular subject (nominative) form the word "ira", which simply means anger. Hajun's throne looks cool as well, I like the fact he has a lotus seat and that demon in the back as well. Then again it may be a more accurate portrayal of someone who was mummified alive. Outside of the memes he isn't a manlet, at least in the sense that he and Habaki should be the same height: 6'foot. Well it was a group effort, but KKK itself is super Japanese, from the menus looking as if they were scrolls, to the extremely Japanese artstyle from G-Yuusuke, the very, very japanese character designs (Their clothes were all referenced from Noh theatre iirc, hell look at Momiji's eyebrows, that shit gets me off). Also the music is once again very Japanese, the bgm track names are almost all references to various Nip folklore, the text, you guessed it, contains a ton of references shinto/buddhist/hindu lore, and it's not even your standard chuuni sprinkle, some of of it is very heavily linked with the story and the characters themselves, but most are really just finer details that really add to the aesthetic of the visual novel. And then there are are smaller details like Habaki's Vajra, the lore behind the Tenmas and their individual names as me and the other anon were just discussing earlier though I still don't know about Morei and Akuro.
Essentially KKK is a really well-produced piece of work, from details regarding art, music and text. You can tell that a LOT of research and love went into it. Honestly, I find out more about KKK as time goes on even well after I've read it, it's the gift that keeps on giving.

Quite a lot I'm fairly certain, I remember having to look up a lot of the lore whilst in the middle of reading and there weren't any English resources on most of the stuff, so it was all jp pages. But then again, I'm a filthy Gaijin and there's probably more stuff that went completely over my head.
But to be fair for those who read it in English, a lot of actual nips miss out on the references in KKK as well. Quite a lot of them still think that Rindou is a reference to Suzuka Gozen because of her full name, but as the other anon put it, it's a reference to the eastern expedition of Emperor Jimmu as detailed in the Kojiki.

Okay, my journey to find out Akuro and Morei's origins was not a very long one, but still decently fun. It's not really over though.
So, Akuro is most likely originates from 悪路王, one of the rulers of ancient Ezo, according to 吾妻鏡 the oldest record about him was around 1189, though he probably ruled long before this date. And Morei (apparently more famous as "Aterui") was one of the military leaders in Ezo, though from the older period (date of birth is unknown, date of death is roughly September of 802). Both of them share the connection to the Sakanoue no Tamuramaro legends (in case someone doesn't know this yet, which is unlikely, Sakanoue is at very least one of the historic/legendary characters that served as a basis for Habaki), and according to some theories, Aterui was actually a basis for the King Akuro character, who was one of the Sakanoue's enemies in some legends and chronicles. Either way, both of those characters share the connection to the Sakanoue's legends, so I think them being a source for Akuro and Morei is highly likely. I'll have to actually look through the text of those legends if I'll be able to find them at some point, but it would take a lot of time which I don't have right now.

Quality-wise it's just way outdated. I've looked over their design specs for Pantheon as well, and while I can't really share any details about it, amazingly it doesn't actually spoil any of ParaLost or K3. A lot of these mobile games handle pre registration differently, some start just a month ahead while others are a whole year in advance.

Well, gotta be realistic. Dies irae isn't very popular to begin with, and with so many series getting mobages announced lately, it's bound to have some tough competition ahead. Still, the fact that the new developer is a small one might be a plus for us, since it's usually the big ones like Square Enix that pull the plug after a few months if it's not very successful. Taikyoku names in general are a pain to translate, and Muzan's has changed since KKK. Change 明星 to Morning Star, maybe 無慙 to something else since it's pretty hard to actually translate into English. The Remorseless doesn't really do it justice. And I'm too tired to think of another one.

Add a link to Todestag Verloren, since it's the only sound drama that wasn't adapted into the vn form. Also, there's an ongoing translation of the Rusalka's spin-off novel, while it's not written by Masada, the general idea was his, so I guess it also should be in the links. It probably should go to the "other resources".

Also, about the whole deal with Atman, Muzan's name meaning, Hajun's title, etc, at some point, we may as well make a small pastebin with explanations of this stuff. After all, references to the religions and different folklore are all over the place in Masada's works, and not every anon here could just go to Masada wiki and read stuff about it. Not to mention that even Masada wiki still lacks some information.
