Finally done with Kakyuusei. I can see what they were trying to do with expanding the scenario from a vacation to a whole school year, and it is a sound idea in theory, but it just was not executed satisfactorily. The manual arranging of dates is a good addition, and when you first are at the point where you strategically plan your dates with as many girls as possible on the next day, the game is at its best. But because it cannot have the detail of the previous games with its increased scope, the in-game progress of time is and feels glanced over, the individual heroine arcs are formulaic and genericised instead of "handcrafted" like in the Doukyuusei games, you simply feel detached from the game and not really immersed at all in a classroom atmosphere. There sure are a lot of CGs (especially compared to the pathetic output of Rance 10 in that regard earlier this year, for example), but all unique events are short and the even shorter unvoiced dialogues are nearly all following an obvious pattern based on the hidden "affection points".

The characters are not bad, but nobody feels properly developed, and you never get a character arc that is completely out there, like with the kouhai in Doukyuusei 2. The protagonist, rival, and best friend have been basically recycled, as well as many major heroine traits. Feels like there were running out of steam with these standard dating sims (what with them going so far as to include a very silly alien girl/childhood promise[sub]plot), and I am not surprised that Hiruta was sick of renaige after this point.

Concerning the heroines, I guess there was some alright banter with Maki in the beginning, and the main heroine as well as the flower girl are "nice", if nothing else. Mayumi surely makes for an interesting heroine for a galge. Reiko probably had the most unique dynamics with the protagonist, but their perma-tsun relationship got pretty damn retarded near the end. I organised dates with the titutar love triangle underclasswomen in the same place on the same day combined with love hotel visits in the hope of some drama, and it is disappointing that the game does not acknowledge this (it only would if a generic random event triggered).

Aya Kadoi's art is good, more consistent than Takei, but Takei at his best is superior. The BGM was somewhat inferior. The game is very "clicky" because of the new interface restricting all choices to the very bottom of the screen, which adds to the feel of massive length of the game. Normally in this series you would try to hook up with as many girls as possible in a playthrough, but it is this length that just makes you give up and min-max after your first full playthrough. For some reason, you cannot even pick your confession target in the ending (with one exception). This game is not all bad though, you still get the "nanpa feeling", on occasion. But while I consider Doukyuusei 1+2 legendary kamige, this one is "merely" decent. I suppose I understand now why many people specifically clamoured for a Doukyuusei 3. Kakyuusei 2 is most likely still worse, won't bother with it anytime soon.

He was really romantically indecisive at several points, like with the girl he cucks the guy over, Ruri. At one point Ruri was crying while doing the dishes because her reputation was ruined as a slut, the guy she loved wouldn't bite the bullet for her, etc etc.

Plus the whole Natsumi/Yuki "love triangle" thing going on, where it felt like 90% of the time he allowed Yuki help him try to woo Natsumi only to blow off Natsumi off when she tried to confess, etc.

I guess I wasn't expecting the MC of Graffiti to be such a moping faggot over his dead gf, not when he's got 2-3 better girls vying for his affection. When the uber rich hot girl Toushouguu asked him to date her I about punched a hole in my keyboard when he started bringing up his dead gf again.

I was mad because the MC completely forgot all about the detective work he was doing to find his dead gf's killer and only seems to use his dead gf as an excuse to avoid taking responsibility/commitment, something the other heroine Saya brings up as well when she asks him if he'll marry her if he has impregnated her after a 3 day and 3 night sex binge fest.

In moege drama is caused by forgetting thing, heavy stupidity or misunderstandings,which are either caused from stupidity of characters or by the writer REALLY trying to cause this by purposely writing things like that (i.e. leaving out key information), while the characters should know about it.

It seems like enough people like it. My guess is that they simply dislike it if the story outcome isn't 100% obvious. So the drama is constructed in a way where it's super obvious who the good and bad guy or what wrong or right is, which tends to result into characters turning really really dumb at some point.

That's unlikely. Most VNs have some variation in the difficulty of the writing, especially if different routes are done by different writers. The YouTube idea is better, but it could still be difficult to ascertain the difficulty of the latter parts of the game without spoiling some of the story.

The folklore that comes with the game and the hidden lore explorable due to the true route is nice though. Also the revenge-sex scenes have a few ways to interpret them. But the concepts get stale way too quickly. It would've been far better if you had an even more complex choice system by exploiting that you can look on feet, breasts or face for different reactions. I've been consulting the following list http://erogamescape.dyndns.org/~ap2/ero/toukei_kaiseki/user_infomation.php?user=amaginoboru, it seems to be a reasonably thorough collection of most TSge in existence. His taste is slightly different from mine but it's worth going through this list and checking out anything that looks good.

Obviously I'm a lot less experienced than this guy but from what I've played, Futaba Channel is pretty good, Saikyou no Furyou is garbage, and Love Kiss Anchor (which is by the same guy as Ai Mai Mist) is amazing, although nowhere near on the same level as Ai Mai Mist of course, and it's only TS in one route so might not appeal to people who don't like its other elements.

Also I'd like to ask if there's anything else you'd recommend, what other TSge have you played?

Mostly nukige like all the Futaba Channel games, the X-change series, the Norn games The Dark Lord Is Feminized and I'm a Feminized Badass which are about as good as expected.

Then more vn fare, Futari wa My Angel, Kuru Kuru Couer, and Kyoukaisen no Hate.

The closest one to Ai Mai Mist is Futari wa My Angel I guess. Two guys become magical girls to fight the demon king and the cute pet partner doesn't know how to undo their forced gender change (they can't ever undo it of course). Only one route was any good though and the bad end is better than the good end, which is always silly.

Kyoukaisen no Hate is yuri. Which is good I guess but not really what I'm looking for.

Kuru Kuru Couer is only marginally playable. The MC is a fucking retard and every day you get to choose whether to be male or female so what's the fucking point? The heroines made up for it though.
